India Premium

A trip of two very different halves. The busy bustling Golden Triangle followed by the calm and beauty of Kerala.

Most Inspirational Moment

There were many lovely moments but, perhaps, it was the tour of Old Delhi with the local guide from the street project - followed by an exhilarating TucTuc ride to the markets.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Ajay was a charming man with a good sense of humour who dealt with what we put him through. His passion for his country was evident throughout.

Advice for Potential Travellers

It was good to arrive before the group flight to allow time to orientate yourself before all the tours start. The fortnight is fairly full on.

A lovely week onboard a boat in the Maldives

MV Felicity is a comfortable old Turkish Gulet. The trip had lots of snorkeling in clear warm water. The reefs have lots of colourful fish, and you get a chance to see the Manta Rays, Reef Sharks, Turtles and if you are lucky the Whale Sharks. The food was amazing, plentiful and the staff were great. Very helpful and friendly. Being a small group, it was the perfect way to spend time both relaxing and visiting small islands. Lots of space on the boat for either sunning yourself or like us keeping out of the sun, which is very strong.

Most Inspirational Moment

Snorkeling with the gentle Manta Rays, who seemed to want to interact with us.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Despite having a tooth infection, which was obviously painful, Zak remained professional, friendly and helpful and ensured the trip went smoothly. Explaining each days activity, and especially about respecting the wildlife and whale sharks. We had good encounters that were mainly just our boat and us.

Advice for Potential Travellers

The cabins are comfortable. There is storage under the beds. Very little in the way of hanging and drawers but then you dont need many clothes. You live in swim suits and shorts. Hanging space to dry stuff on the deck. There are some very early starts to avoid the crowds. Seeing the reefs and colourful fish are a given. We saw lots of Manta, reef sharks and a few turtles. Dont expect to see lots of whale sharks. We only saw 1, and that was brief, on the whole trip. There is a lot of chaos around the whale shark area when all the day boats are about. Exodus ensure we stay out of harms way if its very busy. You will not get in the water if there are lots of people in the water. This could mean missing the whale shark, but we would prefer that to either harassing the whale shark, or getting hurt in the mass of people and boats. Take ear plugs if you are a light sleeper as the aircon and fans needed to keep the rooms cool are noisy.

Cycling Vietnam

The organisation, logistics and the team from the outset were absolutely faultless. Small details made the trip so much easier; keys ready at each hotel and no check-in, tickets for sites and tipping taken care of, bikes fully prepped and assigned etc etc. The trip also involved a lot of local people and services which allowed us to get a full view of the country, a little off the tourist trail. The guide and support team dealt with every challenge with patience, positivity and good humour. The riding could have been better. We seemed to spend a lot of time cycling on wide, straight, flat roads and then get on the bus for more interesting terrain. Hybrid bikes would also be a better choice than the MTBs supplied. Good mileages though and challenging enough in the warm, humid weather. Overall, a great trip!

Thoughts on Group Leader

Son was an excellent guide and host. As were the rest of the team.

Wildlife

This trip was amazing, and our group was so lucky and i felt privileged to see so many wonderful , amazing animals on this trip, Manta Rays, Feather Sting Rays, Turtles, Spinner Dolphines, Whale Shark, black tip sharks, Nurse Sharks and flying fish – AMAZING. I would like to highlight the need for a UV Protect shirt – not just a rash vest. There will be plankton that will sting when swimming in areas with Manta rays / Whale Sharks. i felt like i overpacked for this trip, you will need a change of swimming costumes but no need to take that many clothes for the evening. Sea shoes for sharp shell beaches are beneficial, and flip flops but no need for other shoes.

Most Inspirational Moment

All wildlife - out of this world - amazing .

Thoughts on Group Leader

Engaging and supportive

Advice for Potential Travellers

UV top, and maybe a long sleeve if available. Sports camera for underwater filming a must. take your sea legs with you, as the crossing can be a little rocky at times - channel crossing even lost the support dinghy for a short time until recovered by the snorkel boat. You will need to complete a traveller declaration - Maldives immigration on departure from UK & Maldives - save a screen shot with QR Code for customs.

Enjoyable introduction to the wonderful landscapes and wildlife in this stunning country.

Well thought out tour of the Cape, taking in such varied landscapes and experiences. Highlights were the Schotia Game Reserve, the drive through the Little Karoo to the Cango Caves and the trip to the Cape of Good Hope. Touring was on a mini bus, which was spacious enough for our tour group of 13. Most drives were reasonable, but there was one very long day of 7 hours with only a couple of short stops. Accommodation was spacious, clean and with comfortable beds. All of a generally good standard.

Most Inspirational Moment

Amazing trip to Schotia where we saw a stunning range of animals. Plus the semi desert area of the Little Karoo around De Rust.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Tallis was a confident & safe driver. He was knowledgeable and kept us well informed of the details of the trip and any changes to the itinerary. He fitted in a couple of extra visits , which improved our experience and were appreciated by all the group (Betty’s Bay and the Kirstenbosch Gardens) There were a number of health challenges with the group that were dealt with in a calm and appropriate manner.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Be prepared for bad weather. Take refreshments, as stops some days are limited and in some accommodation facilities were also limited. There is one long day travelling, so be aware

Amazing experience

A really amazing trip Guides really good and looked after me well I’m not really a cyclist though and would have appreciated clarification of the level. Having walked at level 4/5, I was surprised that level 3 was this hard

Most Inspirational Moment

Bird Park Amber fort Udaipur lakes

Thoughts on Group Leader

Manu and Manish were always friendly and approachable Assessment of conditions not always absolutely accurate in my opinion

Advice for Potential Travellers

Be aware that road conditions are often rough Tourist sites are awesome but local guides may be difficult to understand

Pura Vida indeed

Well organised tour, that allowed us to discover and enjoy different areas of exceptional natural beauty in a welcoming country.
The tour started slowly, but by day 6 / La Fortuna Waterfall, it became more paced and more choices of activities were available.
Apart from the hotel at Monteverde, subpar in comparison to the others, (our room was in a kind of basement with a view to a wall, and the breakfast was of a limited choice) we enjoyed the hotels.
Rio Perdido Hotel & Thermal River was outstanding.

Most Inspirational Moment

Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve, Rio Perdido Hotel & Thermal River, and the beach at Tamarindo. The trip to and the activities to Tortuguero could have been better.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Randall, our very knowledgeable tour guide, and a good organiser, was full of energy, optimism, and fun and opened our eyes to many natural wonders, that otherwise, we would have passed by without noticing.

Disappointing game drives

Beautiful country, fascinating culture, friendly people, lovely hotels, great food, helpful guides, plenty of birds but very disappointing game drives in the national parks on our itinerary. We saw more elephants from the tour bus outside the parks than on the game drives within them, fleetingly glimpsed a leopard on an unscheduled visit to a different park which we paid extra for and saw no sloth bears. I appreciate wildlife viewing is not guaranteed, and I know south Asia is not east Africa, but think Exodus should review the current itinerary to assess whether it offers customers the best viewing opportunities. Either that or re-badge this as a bird-watching trip with possibility of seeing a few mammals along the way.

Most Inspirational Moment

Watching a baby purple-faced langur clinging onto its mother as she feasted on fruit in the Sinharaja Rainforest.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Nalaka Thennakoon

Advice for Potential Travellers

Bring some decent binoculars.

diverse and exciting adventure

this trip proves you dont need a multi country trip to see it all! volcanoes, cloudforests, the amazon jungle, highlands of the andes… the diversity of what you see in two weeks is unrivalled. often seen as the great Galapagos’s less exciting mainland counterpart…this could not be further from the truth. Be wowed by science experiments only possible on the equator, visit local communities in the amazon rainforest and experience the Andean cultures. i would recommend this trip to anyone with a spirit for adventure, who loves to be outdoors experiences lots of different landscapes flora and fauna.

Most Inspirational Moment

staying in the amazon and going to sleep listening to the soundbath of the amazon jungle. it does not get better than is

Thoughts on Group Leader

Etiel was one of the best leaders I've ever had the pleasure of travelling with. with 15+ years experience he was able to answer questions fully on any topic. with humour and enthusiasm

Advice for Potential Travellers

some of the walks have steep accents and decents. you go at a slow pace as you are doing the walks to see the animals and plants mostly. but being prepared with the right walking shoes and a stick if needed will make this more enjoyable . ( you can always sit these out as well, one person in our group did and saw wild monkeys instead! )

Cape Town and the garden route

Places visited were picturesque enough and accommodation very good throughout. However a major criticism I would make is that only white (Afrikaans) were encountered directly and entire trip dominated by their view of South Africa. Black South Africans were encountered only as fulfilling menial roles (in hotels etc) and their view and perspective was not only missing but it is as if it had been airbrushed away and no mention whatsoever was made of the apartheid issue and long struggle to overcome it. While people do not come on holiday for political education mention of salient facts about a country are essential in the tourist narrative especially if they are recent and ongoing and to give context to what is being experienced. it was only in the Robben Island trip ( only 2 of us did this) that non Afrikaans South Africa was glimpsed and the guides there were excellent presenting things in a straightforward and unemotional way that commanded attention.

Most Inspirational Moment

Favorite was the safari trip near the elephant reserve where we saw pretty much every animal that could be seen some quite close up (lions elephants and zebras particularly).

Thoughts on Group Leader

Very pleasant and friendly in personality and very helpful and reliable when there were problems or setbacks. in terms of information about the country I found him extremely limited in scope.

Advice for Potential Travellers

No.
