Unforgettable bike tour from Porto to Lisbon

The bike trip from Porto to Lisbon was amazing. The Exodus team took care of everything, making sure we had the right equipment, transported our luggage efficiently, and most important made sure we had a great trip. Our Exodus team (Ruben, Margarida and Jose) were outstanding, providing local knowledge and helping bring the group together. By the end, we were friends as well as travel companions. I highly recommend this tour.

Most Inspirational Moment

Getting to the top of the steep hill on Day 3 and cheering as everyone made it to the top.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Ruben was fantastic. Great local knowledge; passionate about Portugal and the environment; and very caring and supportive to everyone on the trip.

Advice for Potential Travellers

If you like cycling and travel, take this tour!

Great trip with wonderful guides

I booked this trip only 2 weeks before & so happy that I did … I’d never been to Portugal & really glad that I finally have seen it by cycling .. Porto was beautiful & really wished as others have suggested that I could have come earlier .. the days on this trip were full on. we would cycle from one hotel to the next normally starting out at 9.30 ending at 4.30ish with lovely lunches each day paid for out of the kitty that is collected at the start of the week .. (75euro ) then a group meeting about the next days cycle & finally our group leader ( Ruben ) would book a restaurant for us. inevitably we would be back out the door for 6pm for drinks with eating around 8ish for those who wished to join … so very lucky with our group such a great bunch of people who were all very sociable

Most Inspirational Moment

Enjoying the scenery by e bike

Thoughts on Group Leader

I always think it’s the guides that make these trips so special & I honestly couldn’t praise Ruben , Maggie & José enough for their knowledge & the care they took of each & every one of us, all of them are a credit to exodus

Advice for Potential Travellers

If your not a regular cyclist book an e-bike there simply are no hills

Excellent walking in a beautiful country

A good choice of walks around lakes and up to waterfalls and mountain ridges. Lunches in the huts were variable – we mostly chose soup and bread.

Most Inspirational Moment

Reaching the peak of Golica and admiring the views.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Alec is very knowledgeable and proud of his country. He swapped days and modified routes to reflect the weather and ensure we had the best views. Good sense of humour!

Advice for Potential Travellers

Be prepared for changeable weather - bring an umbrella! The food in the huts is quite limited - we chose soup and bread most days. Slovenian wine is surprisingly good (mostly) and cheap.

The long and winding road

Some spectacular landscapes, fantastic Islamic architecture, fascinating markets – and some very long minibus journeys on bumpy roads

Most Inspirational Moment

Waking up and stepping outside my yurt to witness the wonderful scenery and lovely horses beside the river

Thoughts on Group Leader

Vitali: Good fun, informative and patient. Svetlana: Elegant, expressive and a fountain of knowledge. Dilshod: Encyclopaedic knowledge of Uzbek history, polite and resolved a couple of issues with aplomb

Advice for Potential Travellers

Bukhara was hotter than expected - 41C in 2nd week of June. Yurt camp warmer than expected. Do not leave coins in your hold luggage when flying out or there will be trouble. Make sure your hotel registers your stay with the authorities. One of our group was missed by the last hotel and had trouble leaving Uzbekistan as a consequence. The number of mosques, madrassas and mausoleums can be overwhelming.

Balkan escapade

Wonderful trip with good leader & driver as well as excellent group participation

Most Inspirational Moment

Majestic views & eagles!

Thoughts on Group Leader

Very convivial and informative

Advice for Potential Travellers

Have no worries!

Definitely the best of Sicily

We have just completed The Grand Tour of Sicily with the fabulous Titziano guiding us every step of the way. I really felt no stone had been left unturned. We saw and experienced so much on this tour. I had no idea Sicily had so many important ancient sites and we weren’t expecting it to be so green in certain parts. In addition to Titziano, we had 3 local guides to show us specific sites. They were all able to bring places to life and tell stories rather than simply quoting a load of facts.

Most Inspirational Moment

Too many to mention ranging from seeing the actual template that inspired the UNESCO logo, a long, ceramic staircase, the magnificent mosaics of Monreale, the buzz of the Palermo markets, the fish market area in Catania, the little train that took us up to and around the old town of Modica, the backstreets of Syracuse and the impressive baroqueness of Noto. I could go on … but this review would then run into pages.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Titziano was an exemplary tour quide. His enthusiasm and love for Sicily is totally infectious. He worked extremely hard to ensure we all had an amazing time and we certainly did! As has been previously mentioned- he made anyone who had a birthday feel very special. I particularly appreciated so many of the little touches which demonstrated he was thinking how best to ensure we had a memorable trip. Suitcases that magically appeared in our rooms rather than our having to carry them up staircases and slopes. His carefully annotated maps for any place we visited and his useful WhatsApp messages that ensured we were fully informed of everything that was happening and any places we were visiting with useful suggestions of things to do and places to eat. If he’s your tour guide, you’ll have an amazing time. He’s a fantastic ambassador both for Exodus and Sicily.

Advice for Potential Travellers

There are a lot of steps on this trip so come prepared. And also be prepared to put on a few pounds! The food is both delicious and plentiful. It’s actually pretty reasonable to eat out here. We were pleasantly surprised that almost all of the excursions or visits were included. We did the add on visit to the top (almost) of Etna. It’s comparatively expensive but we felt it was definitely worth it to be up reasonably close to the smoking crater.

The Best Guide ever...

I took the “Reverse Puglia” trip June 18 to 25, 2024. It was a great trip and overview of Puglia. We stayed in trulias in Alberobello and a cave room in Matera. Everything about the grip was perfect, the pace, the places we visited, the food and local guides. However the best part of the trip was Gabriele the tour guide. He took care of everyone and was funny, intelligent, gracious and a pure delight. He is what made the trip so special and memorable, a philosopher that showed us Puglia.

Most Inspirational Moment

Not part of the tour but Gabiele took whoever wanted to go and it was AMAZING!! In Ostuni - a little museum and a very emotional visit: La "Donna di Ostuni" And another wonderful side trip: Musei di Matera

Thoughts on Group Leader

AMAZING - Gabriele made a great trip a once in a lifetime experience. He was so knowledgeable and had such enthusiasm and love for Italy...he made the trip perfect.

Teasing our Guide, Nino in Western Sicily

Excellent weeks walking along beautiful coastal paths with a small group of like minded hikers.
(And fortunately Nino had a great sense of humour!)
The walking is fairly easy with the usual loose rocks; I find boots best giving ankle support combined with beach shoes and sandals for other “terrain”.
When snorkelling I saw sea urchins so worth keeping the beach shoes on when swimming.
Delicious Italian food……..what more can you say

Most Inspirational Moment

Walking along the coastal path around the island of Levanzo and looking forward to a refreshing swim.

Advice for Potential Travellers

The sea was still a little cool in early June so worth taking a long sleeved tee shirt enabling a longer time in the water. Aperol Spritzers are an essential, refreshing drink!

Unexpected wonders of mainland Greece

Fast paced trip taking in a wonderful array of antiquities and beautiful Greek towns. Hits all the main sites, with some less know gems as well.

Most Inspirational Moment

Whilst Delphi and Olympia were amazing, Messene floored me. The site is jaw dropping in it's completeness and it's lack of exposure to the tourist trail. Here, above all other sites, I could imagine what it was like to be in ancient Greece.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Syrago was a wonderful leader, always cheerful and happy to help. She shared her country and her knowledge generously and was a great help on food selection too. A lovely calm presence on the trip.

Advice for Potential Travellers

This tour is full on. Apart from Athens, there is only one night in each hotel, so you are constantly moving. This is great for the trip, as it covers a lot of ground, but if you can extend to a few nights downtime on one of Greece's fantastic islands afterwards I would heartily recommend.

Walking the Great Wall

What a fab 10 days!! Great walking, excellent guide, fab food ..

Most Inspirational Moment

Many of them, but knowing you are walking on history was a blast

Thoughts on Group Leader

Gerry was fantastic - informative and nothing too much trouble

Advice for Potential Travellers

It's in no way moderate to challenging. Moderate does not apply - rate it higher
