anyone else out there going on the same trip/

Thu, 01/09/2014 - 20:19

I am signed up for the Marakech & Sahara trip 15-22 Feb 2014 and am really looking forward to the trip. I would appriciate linking up with some fellow travellers prior to arriving in Ouazazate via the Exodus group booked flight as I am a bit wary of arriving near midnight... a little crazy since I've lived in the Us and Oz at various points in my life and travelled independently quite a bit but always making sure my arrivals are in day light (it's a lone woman traveller thang!!!!).... anyway if there is anyone out there going from Heathrow who would like to hook up  for a coffee/tea/chat prior to departure I'd appriciate it!!!

Hi, I am on the same trip as you. When I say I, should say we as I am organising 7 of us to go. 4 women, 3 men. I suspect Mel in our group may be sharing with you, I'm not aware of her having any strange habits.
Happy to meet up with you, be good to find out who we are travelling with. I shall ask the rest of the group to register and join the discussion. I suspect you may be a source of advice on suitable clothing in view of your globe trotting.

Sat, 01/11/2014 - 10:29

Hi Rob (and co.),

7 of you eh?!! Does that mean you guys and me? Mel if you're reading this I also have no known strange habits (well none that I am prepared to admit to in public!!) and I've never heard myself snoring!!!

Advise I'm happy to share what I have to offer about clothing etc but this will be my first 'non Western' country visited so my knowledge will be limited. I intend to have at least one pair of trousers with zip off lower leg sections so that I can be in shorts where appropriate but can quickly zip on the lower leg sections where women would be expected to be more reserved (i.e. monument visits and small villages).... as far as the reported 'tummy' bugs go I suspect many have stuck to drinking only bottled water but then forgot and used tap water when brushing their teeth! And if buying frsh fruit or veg to eat raw give it a quick rinse with your bottled water before eating it and that should reduce the chances of picking up a bug hopefully. Sleeping bag wise I'm taking a 2 season bag and a fleece liner that will bring it up to a 3 season but will also offer as an extra option of sleeping in the fleece liner and using the sleeping bag open like a duvet if it's quite warm. I'd like to sleep out under the night stars on night 3 when in the desert rather than in the tent so will be taking a set of light thermals just incase (wether I get to do that will depend on factors on the night but sleeping under a desert sky is a fab experience and fully recomended).

Well that's it for now, catch you some time!!

Sat, 01/11/2014 - 13:55

Hi, hadn't realised we had a night camping in the desert guess I need to read the trip notes in more detail. Sleeping under stars sounds brilliant, am now looking forward to that. Suggestion of sleeping bag will throw a few packing plans out. Hopefully the rest of the 7 will get on the forum soon.
Think trip is up to 13 so nearly full.
Just back from very muddy training ride, looking forward to cycling in dry, warm conditions.

Sat, 01/11/2014 - 14:19

Hi Ali, apologies are due. Thought I had better check the camping night, looks like we're on different trips. Same dates, same starting point, however we're cycling and you're on foot & camels.
However, if we are on same flight AT801 Royal Maroc to Casablanca then internal flight to Ouazarzarte arriving 23.35 and staying at Les Jardins de Ouarzazate, you're welcome to join us if you don't get contact from any of your own trip.
Good luck finding your trip mates, I'll try and find mine :)

Sun, 01/12/2014 - 14:12

What can I say... it's a good job you'd clocked onto that one becasue if you'd arrived with the wrong kit because of my banter about the desert night etc... well oops! Yes we seem to be on the same flights out and I promise not to snubb you and your merry band!!! :) Have a fab trip and I'll think of you peddling like made through the Atlas mountains whilst I'm being spat at and trappled on by a grumpy old camel on day 3!!Best wishes Ali

Sun, 01/12/2014 - 15:43

Think I'll take a flat tyre to a grumpy camel. Have a great trip.

Mon, 01/13/2014 - 12:18

I have booked this trip, it would be good to meet anyone at Heathrow to talk about our week in Morocco, thanks, Peter

Mon, 01/13/2014 - 13:07

Hi Alison it would be nice to meet someone else who is going on this trip, I have not been to Morocco before, but I have been to Egypt twice, Peter

Tue, 01/14/2014 - 20:39

Hi Peter,

It's good to link with some on the trip. I am booked on the Exodus flights out & back and thus on their transfers. Assuming that you are on their flight booking we could meet in a coffee shop at Heathrow. I've not flown from there for several years and thus am not sure what coffee shops are availible... any ideas?

Tue, 01/14/2014 - 21:18

Hi Ali its nice to hear from you, yes i am booked on all the flights and transfers, I have never flown from Heathrow before but i have looked at their website and there are a number cafes, my coach arrives about 1:20, once there i will check in and go to the departure lounge, if you would like to pick a time and a coffee shop i will meet you there

Thu, 01/16/2014 - 17:57

Hi Peter, I'm not yet sure of my timings as I've yet to sort out parking etc but will definitely meet you in the departure lounge cafes. I'll let you know when I've narrowed timings down over this coming weekend.

Sun, 01/19/2014 - 15:38

Hi peter, How does 2:30pmish at Café Apostrophe sound?

Sun, 01/19/2014 - 16:06

Hi Ali that's sounds ok, how's your preparation going, have you everything you need? I just have a few things to buy

Tue, 01/28/2014 - 19:39

Hi Peter, sorry about the delay.... life! I've got what I need but am still awaiting my kit bag... hopefully it'll be here soon or I'll have to drag the rucksack out of the loft!!! See you in less than 3 weeks! :)

Tue, 01/28/2014 - 20:47

Hi Ali my kit bag arrived on Friday, if yours is not there by the weekend try emailing exodus, they are very helpful, I just a few things to get then I'm ready to go :) I understand there are 15 people on our trip

Sun, 02/02/2014 - 11:59

Kit bag has arrived... bigger than I expected!!! I've everything I need other than I can't get hold of any Moroccan Dirham so will have to travel with £s only and hopefuly exchange at the airport or on the first day somehow.... such is life!!!

Sun, 02/02/2014 - 12:32

I'm sure you will manage to fill your kit bag :) I don't think you can get Moroccan Dirham here, I'm taking £300 do think that's enough, or to much. It's less than 2 weeks, can't wait :)

Fri, 02/07/2014 - 19:53

Hey there,

I only just noticed that they have a forum which is silly on my part but such a great idea.  I am travelling on my own and I am a hesitant about arriving so late on my own, any chance that I could meet up with you guys at Heathrow before the group flight?

Fri, 02/07/2014 - 20:11

Hi Jill your more than welcome to meet us, it's going to be a good week, I'm not going to miss all this rain, Peter

Sat, 02/08/2014 - 21:13

Excellent thank you and I completely agree about the rain.

Wed, 02/12/2014 - 20:11

Hi Jill & Peter,

I'm still on for meeting at the airport and am soooooo looking forward to the week away! Though when I told my class today I was going to Morroco when we were looking at Africa in our topic work (I teach special ed)  one of the children said I will come back 'all red' if I lie in the desert sands and that the camel will leave a 'big bruise' on me.... I'm now busy filling my kit bag with extra sun block and shin pads!!!

See you Saturday.

Wed, 02/12/2014 - 22:07

Hi Ali forget the shin pads I'm packing padded shorts for the camel ride, see you Saturday, Peter
