Tips for sustainable travel on this trip

• Leave no trace: we do all we can to ensure we leave no rubbish in the wild and beautiful places we visit; we ask that you do the same. If there are no recycling facilities in-country, consider bringing recyclable materials home with you.
• Plastic waste reduction: please bring a re-usable water bottle on this trip, also consider avoiding single-use hotel toiletries, which generate a large amount of plastic waste.

Travellers from the UK, US and EU normally do not need a visa to enter Iceland. Please note, visa requirements often change and it is your responsibility to obtain any required visas for this trip. Therefore, we recommend that you check with the nearest embassy or consulate of your chosen destination(s), including any countries you may be transiting or transferring through.

Vaccination

Iceland

There are no required vaccinations. However, you may want to consider vaccinations for tetanus and rabies. Please confirm with your doctor or travel clinic.

Eating and Drinking

All breakfasts and one dinner are included.

Breakfasts are mainly continental style, lunches will be taken in cafés or restaurants. The main meal of the day is usually local fish or lamb specialities, plus European standards such as pasta, chicken etc. Vegetarians and those with special dietary requirements can be catered for, but may get a little less variety in the meals provided. It is still common practice for restaurants receiving big groups to offer a restricted menu. Our leader will do their best to ensure as much choice as possible is available.

Is this trip for you?

This trip is graded level 2, leisurely/moderate

Days on the itinerary are filled with activities and can feel long, and there is some travel by minivan involved. You do not need to have a high level of fitness, but this is an active trip, so please consider your suitability carefully and speak to our Sales Specialists if you have any doubts.

Many of the explorations of the sites themselves are completed on foot, often on uneven ground. There are sometimes steep and possibly slippery slopes to navigate in order to reach the sites, as well as steps and some stiles. Some sites do have walkways, however many do not. Please see the packing list for further information on footwear.

We use a comfortable bus, ruggedly built to Icelandic standards and able to cope with most types of terrain. Most roads we use on this trip are tarmac, allowing for a reasonably smooth ride.

To participate in the ATV tour, you will require a driving licence that is recognised in Iceland.

Accommodation in Iceland is expensive and often basic. Some well-travelled clients may find the accommodation disappointing when compared to similarly priced accommodation in mainland Europe. However, we endeavour to source good quality, competitively-priced guesthouses and hotels on the itinerary.

Following a review of all our trips we have categorised this trip as generally not suitable for persons of reduced mobility. However if you are a regular traveller on such trips, please contact customer services to discuss the trip and your personal condition.
