This special journey takes us further south than at any other time in the season. The time we save by flying south, allows for a more substantial exploration below the Antarctic Circle. Here we witness stunning landscapes, sizable Adelie penguin rookeries and large flat-topped tabular icebergs that drift north from the Bellingshausen Sea. We navigate the glaciated coastline of the Antarctic Peninsula, passing through the Argentine Fish and Yalour Island archipelagos on our way to the Gerlache Strait region. We then aim to cross 66 degrees, 33 minutes south latitude, which officially marks the position of the Antarctic Circle on the global map. With favourable weather and ice conditions we hope to reach Marguerite Bay. This is a spectacular location reached by just a handful of ships each season.

Weather & seasonality

A journey that takes you further south than at any other time in the season

All meals while on the ship included. The ships galley offers good quality service and cuisine throughout, with excellent chefs preparing international menus including vegetarian dishes, accompanied by a wide variety of drinks from around the world on sale. Breakfast: Buffet style - unlimited tea and coffee, a selection of fruit juices, hot options including bacon and eggs or omelettes, a selection of bread and toast and jam/honey/marmalade, fruit and cereal. Lunch: Three course set meal, or the occasional buffet or BBQ. Dinner: Three or four courses with a starter of soup and/or salad, a choice of mains with at least one vegetarian option and a dessert, with tea and coffee.
Travelling Conditions The voyages are designed to be as flexible as possible, taking advantage of circumstances and events as they occur, as well as passengers' wishes and particular interests wherever possible. The atmosphere onboard is relaxed and friendly with expedition staff, including naturalists and polar experts, on hand and the opportunity to mingle with people from all over the world. The ship is kept warm, clean and comfortable with a wet/mud room in which to hang gear and store boots ready for the next adventure. On the Zodiac cruises you are sitting still for most of the time with the potential for some sea spray and a cold headwind - if you are not dressed appropriately you will get cold. On the shore excursions, the majority of landings are 'wet' which means that the Zodiacs beach and you are helped to slide into the ankle deep shore break before walking up onto dry land (wellington boots are issued to all passengers). There are, of course, no paths, so be prepared for slippery, rough terrain and sometimes fairly deep snow. Back on board the cosy ship after each adventure, you can have a sauna and/or a hot shower and then relax with a tea, coffee, hot chocolate or something stronger from the bar. Sea kayaking option On some of our Antarctica, Falklands & South Georgia voyages there is the chance for some members of the party to take regular sea kayak excursions in place of the Zodiac excursions. There are a limited number of kayaks on each ship, and you must book and pay for this option in advance. All kayak trips are expertly guided, and are subject to suitable locations and weather conditions. Should the kayaking not be possible, a place on a Zodiac is always available. Basic kayak competence is required; please ask for the Kayaking Information Sheet for more detail.

In early December, Antarctica’s snow and ice will be in pristine condition, the penguin rookeries are busy with parents guarding precious eggs and in some locations, we witness nature at it’s very best by observing young penguin chicks emerging into the icy Antarctic world. Towering snow-covered mountains surround us and the sea ice is starting to break up, opening even more potential landing locations for us to explore. Our full range of activities will be on offer on this voyage; walks on shore, visits to wildlife colonies, cruising amongst icebergs, visits to historic sites and possibly even a working science base.

On this far-reaching polar voyage we link three stunning locations. The sub-Antarctic region of the Falkland Islands, where we aim for excursions to Sea Lion and Bleaker islands to explore varied bird populations. South Georgia is our next destination and is home to a proliferation of unique wildlife and birdlife. There are penguin rookeries with more than 100,000 nesting birds while the beaches are covered in fur and elephant seals to watch and photograph. South Georgia features fascinating history and stunning scenery which we get to explore along the way. To the south lies Antarctica, the frozen continent. Icebergs of all shapes, sizes and shades of blue fill the waters. On this voyage, our days are spent exploring on shore in the company of expert guides, cruising in our inflatable Zodiac boats is another memorable activity included as part of the voyage.

This exciting new expedition is undoubtedly the most comprehensive journey to Antarctica ever offered. Only scientists and researchers, who spend many months working at the numerous research stations in Antarctica, can claim to spend more time ‘down on the ice’. Over the course of three weeks, we spend an unprecedented 16 days exploring the Antarctic Peninsula, South Shetland Islands, the spectacular, icy Weddell Sea region and the wildlife-rich Falkland Islands. In practical terms, this voyage will provide you with more than thirty off-ship excursions. Over the durtion of the voyage, we visit wildlife colonies, historic sites, science bases and spend plenty of time ashore enjoying extended walks, many up to stunning viewpoints. In our Zodiac boats, we cruise among the icefloes searching for whales and seals, or admiring and photographing the deep blue icebergs.

This new voyage takes place at the height of the Antarctic summer. We enjoy extended daylight hours at this time of the season, the wildlife colonies are busy and as the sea ice continues to break up, allowing a range of landing sites to expand even further. Departing from Ushuaia, Argentina we cross the Drake Passage arriving in Antarctica to celebrate the New Year! Here we explore the Antarctic Peninsula and South Shetland Islands making daily shore landings. We then follow the course taken by Sir Ernest Shackleton whose epic small boat journey, from Elephant Island across the Scotia Sea to South Georgia, remains one of the greatest feats of navigation in history. We commence our exploration at the remote southeastern tip of the island, and then spend the following days exploring the northern coastline. Here are some of the largest king penguin colonies on earth. The shores are covered in wildlife – including nesting albatross, fur seals and elephant seals. Rusting relics from the old whaling era sit silent and provide a dramatic contrast to the green tussock grass, and snowy peaks that surround us. After a thorough exploration of South Georgia, we head for the Falkland Islands and aim to spend one final day exploring the wildlife-rich Sea Lion Island and nearby Bleaker Island. Our voyage comes to an end in Stanley, Falkland Islands – the small capital from where we fly back to Punta Arenas, Chile.

Weather & seasonality

Celebrate the New Year in Antarctica and follow the footsteps of Shackleton to South Georgia!

Weather & seasonality

Discover the spectacular scenery of Tenerife on foot, with volcanic, coastal, and lush cloud forest routes.

All breakfasts are included. They usually consist of coffee, toast, and a continental style spread. There are some opportunities to stop for a coffee or a snack along the way. On the days where we are walking, we will stop at lunchtime to have picnic lunches. This enables us to save time and Vegetarians: Please be aware that a meat and fish are staple food in Northern Spain. Most vegetarians do not experience any problems, however please be prepared to be flexible. Please note that mealtimes in Spain are later than in many other countries; dinner is usually taken between 21:00 and 21.30.
Activity Level: 3 (Moderate) This trip requires a reasonable level of fitness, ideally with previous trekking experience. Walks are at the tougher end of our moderate scale and the terrain can be rocky with steep sections with occassional scrambling. It can get very warm and treks are exposed with limited shade so you need to be prepared and carry plenty of water. The walks in Anaga and Teno rural parks are less demanding but more varied in terms of the type of terrain that you will encounter. They have been chosen to showcase some of the best natural scenery in lesser-known corners of the island.

  • Although this part of East Africa lies in the tropics, the temperature depends more on altitude than on season. Kenya and Northern Tanzania have temperatures ranging from 18-21ºC in March and dropping to 15ºC in August, or perhaps a little lower, which can feel cold. The long rains, during which we do not operate these tours, occur in April and May, and there are intermittent 'short rains' between November and January, though these normally have no great effect on the safari. Near to the coast it is much warmer, usually in the low 30sºC, and very humid but there is often a cooling breeze.

Weather & seasonality

Excellent game viewing and spectacular scenery in Kenya and Tanzania.

All breakfasts, 11 lunches and 10 dinners included The service can be either a la carte or buffet, depending on the lodge. For early game drives and in order to maximise the time spent in the parks, a packed breakfast or lunch may be provided in some instances. The food provided is a mix of good local and international food throughout. It is possible to cater for vegetarians or clients with special requirements, however please make sure you will advise your Sales Consultant at time of booking or our Customer Operations department before departure.
This is an excellent trip for wildlife, scenery and a taste of life in East Africa. To pack so much into a short time there are some long drives, and although the distances are not great, some of the roads are quite poor and bumpy especially after the rainy seasons. We include breaks for toilet facilities, shopping, photos and meals. The spectacular scenery and glimpses of village life when travelling make the journeys more enjoyable but come prepared with a sense of adventure and a sense of humour for a holiday of a lifetime.

Most nationalities do now require a visa for Kenya, including Britons, most EC nationals, Australians, New Zealanders, Americans and Canadians. The cost for British Nationals is USD50 and the visa can be obtained on arrival. Please ensure that you have at least one blank page free of immigration stamps in your passport to enter Kenya. Most nationalities also require a tourist visa for Tanzania, including British nationals, most EC nationals, Australians, New Zealanders, Americans and Canadians. The visa is available at the border and the cost for British and most other European Nationals is US$50 cash, whilst for US citizens it is US$100 cash. There are no mandatory vaccination requirements. Recommended vaccinations are: Polio, Tetanus, Diphtheria, Typhoid, Hepatitis A. Malaria prophylaxis is essential and we suggest that you seek advice from your GP or travel health clinic about which malaria tablets to take. Dengue fever is a known risk in places visited. It is a tropical viral disease spread by daytime biting mosquitoes. There is currently no vaccine or prophylaxis available for Dengue, and therefore the best form of prevention is to avoid being bitten. We recommend you take the usual precautions to avoid mosquito bites. test

  • The Maldives has a tropical climate, plenty of sunshine and temperatures around 30°C throughout the year. Maldives has two distinct seasons; dry season (northeast monsoon) and wet season (southwest monsoon), with the former extending from January to March and the latter from mid-May to November. There can be heavy rain showers pretty much any time of year, but they tend to be short and cannot be accurately predicted seasonally.

Spectacular marine wildlife including Whale sharks and Manta rays in the Maldives

Full board accommodation whilst on the ship. Breakfast, lunch, dinner, afternoon snacks are fully inclusive whilst on board. The traditional food of the Maldivians is based around fish, (tuna to be more specific), chilli and coconuts. White rice and “roshi” (a flour based flat-bread) are staple items. Fish is normally smoked, fired, barbequed or roasted. Pork products are strictly prohibited. Typical ingredients used widely in dishes served on board include onion, ginger, garlic, lemon, spices. Menus include European and Maldivian dishes, freshly prepared on board by our chefs who will do their best to cater for most specific dietary requirements. Please discuss any dietary requirements with your booking advisor at time of booking. The indoor saloon bar offers a wide choice of soft drinks, wine, beer and spirits to purchase. Please note that there is absolutely no alcohol allowed on the local islands – it is only permitted in the resorts and on the boats.
This is predominantly a marine adventure. You should be comfortable in the water in order to participate in the ocean excursions, but no certifications such as SCUBA are necessary. We take no risks with health and safety and our expert staff monitor conditions to take appropriate measures for a wonderful time in the area. The climate in the Maldives is tropical which means it can get very hot and humid and you should be prepared for this. Whilst the months we offer the trip are not known for poor weather conditions it is always possible that we may encounter the occasional day of rough seas and therefore an ability to swim is highly recommended. Please note that the itinerary listed is only a guideline and may be changed based on sightings in order to maximzie the wildlife viewing experience.
