Stunning architecture

95% of the mausoleums, pishtaqs and madrasahs, though built many hundreds of years ago, are subject to very frequent maintenance and in some cases rebuilding. As such they look like new! There are a few ruins but these are mainly to be found in the desert.

Most Inspirational Moment

Gur-i Amir at night in Samarkand

Thoughts on Group Leader

Encyclopaedic knowledge of the country and it's history.

Advice for Potential Travellers

As with any tour the local agency make changes to the itinerary. In this case the camel ride (Day 8) was just 10-15 minutes shortly after we arrived at the Yurt camp (Day 7). The trip notes highlight a 10 to 11 hour drive on bad roads (Day 4) but it doesn't advertise the 6 hour drive under similar conditions on Day 8. Unfortunately the vehicle used throughout did not have suitable air-con so in the 38-40C we all struggled a bit. Day 10 "we have a farewell dinner..." states the trip notes. If you want a farewell dinner you have to arrange it yourself as the local company doesn't do it. Having said that after the journey from Samarkand to Tashkent you arrive back at the hotel at 20:45 and several did not want to eat at that hour knowing we had an early start for the airport the next day.

Portugal: Walking & Wine - Premium

The organisation and support from the leaders Carla and Fernando was superb, could not be faulted, they went over and above and made the trip. The locations were very well chosen and an excellent mix of walking, wine and port tasting and culture and information.

Most Inspirational Moment

The mountains, the walks, the group and the leaders

Thoughts on Group Leader

Carla was excellent. She was very well informed in all areas of the history and local knowledge of the area, fauna and flora etc. She worked tirelessly to make all members of group feel included and supported. Travelling as a single person, albeit with friends, this was very important to me. We felt very much part of the Costa family, and Carla went over and above to make our trip the best it could be. Her communication skills and English were very good indeed. If all leaders were this good I would travel with Exodus again. She is a valuable asset to your company.

Spectacular

This is a wonderful and magical trip from start to finish with a great mix of culture, hiking, delicious food, welcoming people and breath-taking beauty of the landscape and archaeological sites.

Most Inspirational Moment

Petra, Wadi Rum, the Dead Sea and the Wadi Mujib Siq Trail.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Abdullah is absolutely fantastic. He shared his exceptional knowledge of the sites, their history and significance and answered all our questions. Always attentive and well organised, a kind and patient host. Thank You Ab!

Tough but highly enjoyable trek

Blessed with bright sunshine and little wind we were able to laze at the summit enjoying the amazing views. Up is hard, especially with minimal time to get used to the altitude….but down is a LONG way on often-skiddy paths, and we were very happy to get to our lovely hotel at the end of the descent.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Ismail did a great job - was very patient with us as we pottered gently up and down

Advice for Potential Travellers

Refuge isn't as basic as you might fear. Guides provided bottled water so we didn't need to gather it from streams or other uncertain sources. Bring a really good head torch for the ascent - you'll be in the dark for at least an hour. Do some work on knee strength to aid confidence on the long descent.

Brilliant trip

If you enjoy walking in pristine mountains , are interested in bears in particular , wildlife in general and eating local food then this is the trip for you

Most Inspirational Moment

We were so lucky to see a bear from the hide but even if we didn’t the wildflowers and orchids in meadows in late spring were an unexpected delight

Thoughts on Group Leader

Julian was just fantastic . So enthusiastic and excited to share his incredible knowledge of bears in particular and the Rodopi in general. Simply an outstanding group leader.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Bears are very elusive ( even if the signs they leave of their presence generally aren’t) so don’t judge the success of the trip on seeing one . The Rodopi mountains are simply such a very special environment , a visual delight to make you smile .

Staying in the desert, having tea with the nomad lady, out tour guide’s enthusiasm and fantastic knowledge.

He was always ready and willing to support us.

Trip of a lifetime

I have wanted to do The Inca Trail for about 20 years. I finally took the jump and couldn’t have been happier with my experience. Not only was it a great person accomplishment but it was made to be a very comfortable and fulfill trip by everyone involved before at home and in Peru. Firstly I had a delayed flight between Bogota and Lima, this resulted in me missing the final leg of my journey. I made contact via email while sat on a plane and the staff at home were exceptional, had me on a new flight instantly and rearranged my transfer to the hotel. The city of Cuzco, the country of Peru, I loved it all. The porters on the trek were amazing. The chef was a genius. The camp sites exceptional. The group leader, Julio, full of knowledge. Exodus and everyone associated with my trip have my eternal gratitude

Most Inspirational Moment

Reaching the top of Warmiwanuska. You'll hear and read about the difficulties of Day 2 and it is no joke. Reaching the highest point of the trail and I really thought "I have done the hardest part" it was a physical and emotional relief

Thoughts on Group Leader

Our tour guide was Julio. He was honestly incredible. He had incredible knowledge and was very passionate about what he does. I travelled alone and he ensured I was part of the group but also allowed me free time when I sought it. He assisted with information before before and after the trek when in and around Cusco. He really displayed great knowledge on the trail and also at Machu Picchu

Advice for Potential Travellers

Tale snacks. Drinks lots of water. Have FUN

Terrific Food, Culture, History

Fantastic 5-days of cycling in a beautiful part of Italy. Michele guided us through his home patch wonderfully with great choices for coffee (and cake) stops in the mornings and great lunch stops too. Loved the light-touch history and culture (especially the football). One pretty challenging day of cycling in the trip (Verona-Vicenza) but made it up the big hill in the afternoon and enjoyed the coasting downhill after our picnic. All the overnights were in cities which made for lots of choice over dinner options and Italian food didn’t disappoint. Had such a variety over the week. Padua and Venice are both cities that would warrant further visits. Just amazing, and despite a horrible forecast the weather was very kind too.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Michele loves this area and his enthusiasm for Italy, Veneto and Vicenza shines through.

Great Trip and Beautiful Country

I completely enjoyed the Montengro tour; each destination was beautiful (mountains, lakes and coast), some walks were more challenging than others, but all showcased the local natural beauty and none were crowded. I learned a lot about the history, culture and religion (we visited a couple of monasteries) of the area. I was the lone American on a tour of Brits (and one Scotsman), but everyone made me feel welcome, it was a well-traveled group and I really appreciated the camaraderie. The hotels were nice overall (4 star), the food was very good (better by the coast), the last destination for 4 nights, Perast, was really special (great scenery, boat rides, beautiful historic Venetian town). I also loved the local wine tasting event, our host was fantastic. I have to give huge thanks to our guide, Nemanja, who had to wrangle a group of 13 people on his own, led all the events, joined us for meals, managed the multiple drivers and kept the entire trip on track. Most walking tours I’ve joined typically trigger a second guide for groups of more than 10 people, but Nemanja had to lead us on his own for 8 days. I think this was his first time leading this itinerary, but he did it with patience, grace and humor. I would definitely travel with Exodus/Headwater again, I had a wonderful experience overall.

Most Inspirational Moment

I loved the walk through Durmitor National Park, the Black Lake was beautiful.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Nemanja did great job overall; successfully leading a big group as a solo guide is not an easy feat, but he managed to do it well, always with a smile. He knows a lot about the local history, religion and culture. He set a good pace for the walks.

Advice for Potential Travellers

This trip is good for solo travelers as well as friends and couples. The walks are somewhat challenging, it's a good idea to bring a walking stick for the uneven terrain.

Portugal: Walking & Wine - Premium

Quality of local reps, and their caring attitude to travelers. This trip they were exemplary. Overall quality of the trip was excellent.

Most Inspirational Moment

Just a thoroughly enjoyable holiday, with good company and two of the best reps we have ever encountered. You are so lucky to have such two dedicated people in Carla and Hernando

Thoughts on Group Leader

She was a delight in every aspect, caring and worked over and beyond the call of duty - you are priviledged to have her working for you. The videos, and records she hade as a PDF of the whole holiday, and the setting up of the WhatsApp group was amazing. Asere were late arriving, she waited up for us and had arranged that we had food served in the restaurant, at a table with waiter service. What a lady!! Her local knowledge was amazing. Hernando, the other driver was in the same category.
