UNDISCOVERED ATLAS

Immensely glad I took this trip. A good escape from cold, grey UK.the walking was decent and just challenging enough to make you feel you had earned the wonderful food we were served every day. A wonderful experience off the usual tourist track, giving an insight into the kindness of the Berber people.

Most Inspirational Moment

Being so in the wild that my alarm clock was a donkey!and feeling I was walking through a geology textbook..awesome.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Abdellahh - leadership was faultless and totally professional. He had intimate knowledge of the mountains and a wonderful sense of humour.he was kind and considerate.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Weather can range from very cold to warm and sunny,be prepared and don't forget your sun cream... I was really anxious about wild camping toilet arrangements!! But managed fine, and if I can, anyone can ,I promise..

CROSS-COUNTRY SKIING: KVITAVATN

Great place to experience track and off track cross country skiing, the instructors are excellent very patient and professional, the accommodation is very good (twin bedded rooms with supplement) and the food in the restaurant excellent.

Most Inspirational Moment

Skiing across frozen lakes.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Very kind, professional, patient and committed to helping you improve your cross country skiing ability.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Buy a couple of bottles of wine at Heathrow duty free.

CYCLE THE BACKROADS OF SRI LANKA

A challenging adventure in an amazing country with a great group of travelling companions which surpassed all my expectations.

Most Inspirational Moment

Reaching the top of the mountain at Nuwara Eliya after 10 hours on the road and a climb up tp 2000 m. (And I thought I might do the easy option and take the train!)

Thoughts on Group Leader

Brilliant - Suresh was an exceptional leader.  He couldn't have tried harder to ensure everyone was happy.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Don't hesitate - book the trip now. The country is beautiful and the people exceptionally friendly and welcoming. You will not be disappointed. But this is no gentle, Sunday-afternoon bike ride - it is serious stuff and you need to be pretty fit to complete the 700 km in 10 days.   (The support vehicle is always there if you really need it, but you really don't want to miss any of the amazing routes we cycled through.)

CROSS-COUNTRY SKIING: KVITAVATN

good venue, good food, good instructors, but pace a bit too quick for an absolute beginner recovering from the flu!

Most Inspirational Moment

being able to cross frozen lakes and get a whole new perspective on the fantastic scenery

Thoughts on Group Leader

Both very good and worked hard to make the evenings interesting, as well as their work during the day

Advice for Potential Travellers

do some upper body strengthening exercises - it will make getting back on the feet (frequently required) much easier

COLOURS OF RAJASTHAN

This tour went well beyond our expectations. It is a well thought out route which took in some amazing places and gave a good insight into Indian life. Days could be long and there were some early starts but I wouldn’t have wanted to miss a thing.

Most Inspirational Moment

There were several. Being the first to enter the Taj Mahal at 7 a.m.when no one else was there was wonderful. The place is serene and beautiful it was just breathtaking. Then after another early start seeing so many tigers close up at Rambanthore National Park, was very special. The game keepers see so much that I would have missed had they not pointed things out to us. Udaipur is spectacular and beautiful. The hotel was quite special too.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Our guide Chandra really made the holiday for the group. He was knowledgable and informative, often talking to the group about Indian life and customs. He would advise us on anything we were interested in, I always asked his advice on which Indian dish I should select from the menu, and my meal was always delicious!!! He advised us on staying safe, local scams that we should not get caught out with. He definately was a top class team leader who would often get the coach to stop in order to give the group a little cameo of Indian life.

Advice for Potential Travellers

I wouldn't hesitate in recommending this trip if you want an interesting active holiday. Rajastan is a large state and so distances covered meant a lot of time on a bus, sometimes six or more hours a day. It's not a strenuous trip but it is pretty full on with very little down time. Having travelled all the way to India to see the sights I was happy to take all the opportunities to see this amazing place. We took the advice of our leader on where to eat, so avoided any upset stomachs. Make sure you have comfortable robust footwear.

DISCOVER SRI LANKA

An excellent, varied trip with lots of different activities. Accomodation was of a high standard throughout in some fantastic locations.

Most Inspirational Moment

How to choose? Floating down a river surrounded by jungle after rafting through rapids if I had to pick but there were too many to mention. Seeing blue whales up close, playing cricket with the locals, cycling through paddy fields.......

Thoughts on Group Leader

Fabulous. One of the best we've had. Easy going, knowledgable and fun to be around. Roshan really added to the trip.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Book it! It was very humid so bring plenty of light clothing.

PETRA & WADI RUM BY BIKE

I wanted a multi activity week to re-charge my soul and I wasn’t disppointed..  Great cycling and walking in stunning scenery. Throw in the amazing experience of floating in the Dead Sea and gazing up to a magical star studded sky in the desert of Wadi Rum with a great bunch of like minded people. Wonderful.

Most Inspirational Moment

It was great to have completed the cycling without having to get in the bus!  All the group were supportive and eveven though there were different levels of cyclists it didn't feel too competitive - everyone wanted to take time to smell the flowers so to speak, Petra was truly stunning and seeing the Treasury fromr a high up vantage point with just three of the group and the guide Zahaire was a fabulous memory,

Thoughts on Group Leader

Zahaire was great - very knowledgeabe and likeable.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Have fun and savour it all .  A trip to awake all your senses,  Reasd the trip notes before you go.  Also do sleep out under the stars, all you need is a decent sleeping bag and perhaps a hat!

CROSS-COUNTRY SKIING: VENABU

Excellent, professional and friendly set up, with comprehensive tuition and guiding. The full board option is very good value for money in what can be an eye-wateringly expensive (in GBP terms) country.

Most Inspirational Moment

Placing my skis in the parallel tracks and realising that I can glide; Heading out on my own in the afternoon round the hotel and finally 'getting' the rhythm right; Snowshoeing through the woods and coming out onto a viewpoint over the frozen waterfall.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Not really a group leader as such (it's managed by the hotel) but Robert and his team of giudes / instructors were really friendly, helpful and patient. Instruction and tours were tailored to the group experience, with alternatives offered and there were extra training sessions in the afternoons focusing on specific skills, if you wanted to practise.

Advice for Potential Travellers

If you want a drink in the evenings, bring some duty free with you and don't expect alpine style apres ski!

CYCLING VIETNAM

It was a trip that had a lot of promise, and it delivered it ,and indeed exceeded expectations.I would have difficulty in suggesting improvements, without lenghtening the duration of the trip.

Most Inspirational Moment

The inspiration came from the people, and especially the kids who greeted us so enthusiastically. The people were friendly and welcoming, and placid-despite the overwhelming number of mopeds on the roads I never once encountered road rage !The scenery at times was spectacular, and the hotels were generally better than expected.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Chi was superb, and hugely popular with the group. He was everything an excellent guide should be-knowledgeable,helpful,courteous,good sense of humour, always in complete control in a very relaxed way.

Advice for Potential Travellers

I am not a serious cyclist-I am used to short rides of 2 hours or less-and I had no trouble with the cycling apart from the Mai Van Pass where I struggled, but made it ( I am in my sixties ! ).I did experience though saddle soreness at times,as did many others , so a gel cover is essential. Perhaps also a chamois cream. We were extremely well looked after at rest stops with refreshments-no need to take your own with you.Take care with the downhills, and with potholed roads - we had 2 accidents, neither fortunately too serious, but serious enough to stop any further cycling for the 2 individuals for the rest of the trip.

CYCLE SOUTHERN INDIA - COAST TO COAST

another great trip organised by Peter Bluck going through parts of south india hardly visited by tourists. Lots of variety in terms of scenery and accommodation.

Most Inspirational Moment

Pedalling up to Periyar, not as big a climb as the one up to Ooty but still a challenge. Realising we had indeed pedalled from coast to coast.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Peter....great and never flustered.

Advice for Potential Travellers

It can be very very hot in the lowlands and I would aim for December/January departure for maximum comfort.look out for random speedbumps, I didn't see one as I was too busy looking at  village life and had a spectacular fall. Luckily no major damage and my gashed/grazed arm healed remarkably quickly....I was paranoid about cleaning it and it didn't get infected, which I think is quite unusual for India!
