ANTARCTIC EXPLORER

I cannot remember a time when the Antarctic was not at the top of my wish list. This trip not only met all my expectations, it far exceeded them! It is difficult for any review to do both the location and the expedition team justice.

Most Inspirational Moment

It is almost impossible to identify any one moment but I have always longed to see the huge icebergs and the first sighting of these was simply awe inspiring. The whole trip was inspirational - the peninsula has a stunning wild beauty that is like no other region. The penguins are such fun to watch and the variety of birds, especially the albatross, is amazing. Zodiac cruising amongst the sea ice is so peaceful and the beauty and colours of the ice formations takes your breath away. To see abandoned buildings gives a tiny insight into just how difficult life must have been. Life tends to take on a new perspective. The experience, understanding and inspiration provided by the trip was enhanced by some of the best lectures you could hope to attend. The expedition team gave us an amazing selection of background information delivered in an interesting and fun style.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Our group leader was Alex. He was excellent and managed to make all his hard work look effortless! I cannot think of anything that did not go well and his enthusiasm and commitment to providing us with the best possible experience ensured we had just that. He was flexible and always looking for additional landings or cruises for us to experience - when we couldn't land due to the amount of ice, he immediately planned an alternative.Alex is enthusiastic, friendly and highly professional and I am sure this influences all his team. I cannot praise all of the team highly enough, they were all friendly, efficient, informative and professional.

Advice for Potential Travellers

I would advise anyone thinking of doing the trip to go if they can. Everyone with a reasonable level of fitness can enjoy this trip so long as you can negotiate the zodiac landings and smaller slops - not everyone takes part in the more difficult hikes.Even the shortest trip provides an amazing experience. Treat the journey as a part of the experience and take advantage of the lectures as they are superb. Spend some time on deck enjoying the surroundings and the amazing bird life.Waterproof gloves are needed for Zodiacs but not helpful for photography so I bought some thin but good quality lining gloves which were ideal.

The infinite monkey laundry

A really excellent trip into stunning country, bookended with relaxing days in Marrakesh

Most Inspirational Moment

Three for me: The first morning at the Toubkal refuge, looking down the valley at peach-coloured skies; The stunning views across the High Atlas from the col below Ouanoukrim, sheltered from the breeze and basking in warm sunshine; The Berber jewellery collection in the museum at the Majorelle Garden - a completely unexpected delight

Thoughts on Group Leader

Mohammed was brilliant - witty (in several languages), knowledgeable and extremely helpful.  His briefings were always clear, and his judgement on trekking conditions absolutely sound.  He was ably assisted by Hussein and Hossein on hiking and cooking duty (apologies if I have mis-spelled their names), with vegetarians amply catered for

Advice for Potential Travellers

Don't be dismayed by the prospect of starting and finishing the trip in Marrakesh.  Although it would have been nice to spend every day in the mountains, the complete change of scenery (and temperature) at either end of the trip were a delight,  allowing a Morocco/Africa novice to lose himself in something entirely new.  You might want to leave space in your luggage for shopping - I didn't, and need to go back. You will need relatively little cash on the trip (unless souvenir shopping in Marrakesh) - I spent about 150 euros in total, including tips, eating out and sightseeing in Marrakesh.

GALAPAGOS & AMAZON

A wonderful trip, which combined an exhilerating journey into the Amazon basin and a unique tour of a number of the Galapagos islands on board the Cachalote.

Most Inspirational Moment

Difficult to pick out just one memory. The Napo Lodge, run by Anangu Kichwa community, is breathtaking. Snorkling with sealions and huge turtles was also a fantastic experience. Cachalote is a wonderful yacht - great atmosphere and the best way to island hop in the Galapagos.

Thoughts on Group Leader

This trip did not involve just one group leader. The three we met were all excellent. A special mention to Glorio in Quito who helped us find an alternative hotel when we arrived in Quito without accomadation at one o'clock in the morning!

Advice for Potential Travellers

Take sun protection with a high factor. You will need plenty of protection whilst on the Cachalote.

CYCLE NICARAGUA, COSTA RICA & PANAMA

Fantastic holiday, good varied itinerary, challenging in the heat but good support, can highly recommend this trip if you like seeing lots of wildlife, great scenery and lovely food!

Most Inspirational Moment

The cycling was varied on the Ometepe Island, Nicaragua was very scenic, down to beach on the pacific was lovely and a well earned dip at the end of a hot days cycling, around Arenal was fab and Panama Canal really good, we loved seeing the crocodiles on the raft trip, never been so close to a crocodile before, had to remember never smile at crocodile!

Thoughts on Group Leader

The team were very good, plenty of stops which were needed as we were all ready for drinks and snacks after cycling in such heat. Leader was friendly and a good sport.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Take a change of clothes to change into for the bus journeys, take a handlebar bag to store your camera, sun cream and money in, too hot for a backpack. Don't expect to loose any weight the foods fantastic!

WALKING THE AMALFI COAST

A great holiday! Our hotel was so nice with such friendly staff and going out of their way to cope with food allergies. Our guide was smashing and our walks were very good. That coastline is so beautiful. The balance of walks, trips to Pompeii etc and free time was a good balance.

Most Inspirational Moment

Climbing down into the rim of Vesuvius! Terrifying but amazing!

Thoughts on Group Leader

Really good.

Advice for Potential Travellers

There are some steep ups and downs and at times the large number of steps can be hard on the legs.

WALKING THE AMALFI COAST

A great (nearby) escape to a blissful part of the world.

Most Inspirational Moment

There were actually a few but a memory that will last forever was sharing lunch with wonderful people and magical views, in an unmissable atmosphere.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Excellent.  Christine's passion for the locals and their woy of life and hard work makes you appreciate it all that much more.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Prepare for anything and you'll enjoy every second.  So much to look forward to and so much to make the most of just be ready for a magical escape.

DISCOVER SRI LANKA

A varied and interesting itinerary of culture and activities.

Most Inspirational Moment

Many highlights: seeing TWO leopards at Yala National Park, visiting Buddhist temples, white water rafting, the beach, climbing Lions Rock, rice and curry...the list goes on!

Thoughts on Group Leader

Our group leader, Roshan, was great. A good laugh (and totally understood the British sense of humour), extensive knowledge of the country, fabulous organisational skills. He looked after the group wonderfully.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Note that the brochure rates the trip 'leisurely'. However, we did have one fairly lengthy walk at Horton Plains which involved many steep steps at altitude. Combined with the heat, it was pretty tiring. Make sure you take decent walking footwear. There were also over 1000 steps to reach the top of Lions Rock, but it was well worth the effort for the amazing views.

CYCLE THE CAMINO DE SANTIAGO

This is an excellent but at times challenging trip.

Most Inspirational Moment

Achieving the climbs and arriving in Santiago.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Both the group leader and support leader were excellent in every way; knowledgeable, skilled in their respective jobs, supportive, encouraging, thoughtful, mindful of the needs of individuals, conscientious and thorough.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Be fit!

ATLAS DESCENT

This is an epic trip for mountain bikers of all abilities.

Most Inspirational Moment

Close ebcounters with mounatin goats, donkeys whilst bombing around hair pin dirt tracks.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Our leader was outstanding and worked hard all the time to make sure things run smoothly.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Go and do the trip.

VIETNAM ADVENTURE

I have never done a trip like this before and what a fantastic experience to start with.  Vietnam was a wonderful country and I have learnt and seen so much.  Our tour guide Hai was excellent and made sure we took as much away from the country as possible.

Most Inspirational Moment

The history of the country was fascinating and having travelled North to South you see and feel what a war torn history has done to the country. It is however only after a visit to the war remnants museum in Saigon that everything is hit home in a graphic and shocking form.  What is most remarkable is that even after the turbulent lives a lot of the Vietnamese have lead they retain their resilience.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Hai was great, he made every effort to ensure we took as much away from the trip as possible.  He was very witty and sociable and played a bit part in the experience.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Go with an open mind and a give it a go attitude, it is a developing country so you will see and hear things that may differ vastly to what you are used to.  The optional activities were some of the highlights for me, if you don't do the bike rides your experience will be very different and less rewarding.
