Iain, Glasgow

I went on the Picos de Europa trip during the first week of June 2014. On day 1 we were driven to the hotel and pretty much left to our own devices. Then over the next 6 days we had 5 days of trekking with 1 day off in-between for R&R. The walking was challenging but there were no technical difficulties and everyone completed the walks. The scenery every was stunning and we were pretty lucky with the weather. This is apparently the wettest bit of Spain and it did rain on 2 of the 8 days but on every other day it was warm and sunny with excellent visibility. Temperatures generally low 20s C. Warm but not uncomfortable. The hotel is pleasant with very friendly staff and the food is excellent. The hotel bar is good value,, however but there are a number of good bars and restaurants (and touristy shops) in the town of Arenas.

Most Inspirational Moment

The mountain walks very rewarding but for sheer drama it would be hard to beat the Cares Gorge walk. We started on a fairly misty morning so you do not really get a sense of how deep the gorge is. Then as the day progressed the cloud lifted we saw all the cliffs and mountain peaks. The walk itself starts off fairly steeply but this only lasts about 30 minutes and then the rest of the walk is fairly gradual on a good quality mining path. At the top of the gorge is a village where you can have lunch at a café and re-stock. This is by far the longest walk you do and it can get very warm in the gorge but take your time and plenty of water and you will enjoy it.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Our group leader Alvaro was excellent. He is local to the area and not only is he familiar with the routes, he was able to share his considerable knowledge about . It really adds to the general experience. He set a reasonable pace for the group and if we were allowed to go on ourselves he always identified clear points to stop to allow others to catch up.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Take a good hat and plenty of sun cream as shade is limited and the sun can be strong. On some of the walks there are streams where you can safely drink the water but always check with the guide. I took about 2-2.5 litres a day on the walks.

Amazing Andalucia!

A surprisingly wonderful experience shared with a very friendly group of people and fantastic guide. The accommodation was set in a superb location and surrounding. The Farmhouse was very well kept and the food and service of very good standard.

Most Inspirational Moment

We loved visiting Ronda and Seville - great addition to our hiking!

Thoughts on Group Leader

Our group leader was very knowledgeable, professional, enthusiastic, friendly and caring. An example to anyone that wants to become a holiday guide.

Advice for Potential Travellers

We thoroughly recommend the location if you want to be closed to nature and keep active.

Imperial china and Yangtze cruise

An amazing trip, non stop wow factor. It was everything I thought it would be. The tour leader was excellent and looked after us really well dealing with all our needs along the way. The itinerary was hectic but enabled us to cover a lot of ground can’t recommend it enough.

Most Inspirational Moment

Seeing the Great Wall and the Terracotta Army. Had the wow factor big time and hard to take it all in.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Great lady very helpful, friendly and knowledgable, lucky to have her.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Travel light and don't expect china to be like home, be open to experiences and enjoy enjoy !!!

Dubrovnik and the Dalmatian coast

This was my tenth trip with Exodus and easily one of the best. I could not fault any part of the holiday – it was a wonderful week away and I would thoroughly recommend this trip.

Most Inspirational Moment

Our 2 city guides (in Split and Dubrovnik) were both outstanding and really highlighted the best parts of the cities, as well as being humorous, knowledgeable and interesting. The scenery was stunning everywhere and the food was absolutely sublime. We certainly ate well on this trip and, actually, this has definitely been my best Exodus trip in terms of food!!

Thoughts on Group Leader

Our leader was Marija Serdar and she was absolutely excellent-again, one of the best leaders I have had with Exodus. Marija was extremely welcoming, friendly, helpful, easy to talk to, organised and always kept us well informed. Unfortunately, my luggage got lost en route and was not reunited with me until the day before we came home. Marija dealt with all of the calls to Croatia Airlines and the airport in Split to try and locate my bag-I did not have to do anything at all. She also made sure I had everything I needed while my luggage was missing, offering me the loan of some of her clothes as well. Marija took us to some wonderful places to eat-she just seemed to know all of the best places to go to. Any group that has Marija as their guide will be extremely lucky indeed.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Previous reviews have mentioned the need for walking boots on the walks-I actually found trail shoes to be completely adequate. I suppose it depends whether you like to have ankle support or not. We did have rain on one day so it is definitely worth packing a light waterproof just in case. There is a reasonable amount of walking and moving around on this trip (thank goodness, considering all of the food we ate!!) so a reasonable level of fitness and mobility is needed.

Excellent trip with well supported camping

This is an excellent trip with well supported camping and some pretty incredible scenery.

Most Inspirational Moment

There were some really amazing days walking up to high passes with some optional peak ascents for those that wanted to do a little more. Looking down from 2700m onto peaks shrouded in cloud was pretty good!

Thoughts on Group Leader

John put in a lot of effort to make sure everyone got what they wanted out of the trip - which was different for everybody. He was always helpful and willing to answer questions, give advice etc. Gave a few laughs along the way as well. Graham and Charlotte did an excellent job in providing the camp support. Graham's meals were a definite highlight (and much better than we ate onthe local restaurants nights) and he was really good at providing anything people particularly wanted and catering to everyones needs.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Make sure you prepare for all weather conditions. We had quite a lot of rain and it could be cold at night, but equally I think it could be really warm and sunny every day. There are some really tough descents so I would suggest walking poles are a must.

Fantastic!

This was my secod visit to Cuba after first going on a package tour in 2006 and always wanting to see more. This trip allowed me to do just that, seeing lots of places I hadn’t seen previously and providing a real taste of what Cuba is like away from the tourist beaches of Varadero and the like. I would certainly recommend this trip to anyone who is limited on time, as the travelling days are not too long, however, if you can go for longer do it!

Most Inspirational Moment

Staying with a lovely young family in a Casa Particular in Trinidad - it was great to see how Cubans are now able to show a bit of enterprise to take advantage of the tourist industry and improve their own standard of living. They were so friendly and couldn't do enough to help. Also provided the biggest breakfast I've ever had - it went on and on!

Thoughts on Group Leader

Our group leader Mirta was fantastic. She had so much energy and was great fun to be with - it seemed as though she enjoyed the week as much as all the travellers did! She was very open about how things really are for the average Cuban and very honest about the history of the country.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Take some ear plugs as the cockerels and bread sellers start very early in the morning! Also, if you can learn a little bit of Spanish it will be really helpful and enhance your experience.

Walking in Madeira

A great week of walking and socialising. The guide, the group and Madeira were all we hoped for.

Most Inspirational Moment

The view of the "Balcony" walk as it threaded along the cliff. It looked terrifying but in reality was quite comfortable and satisfying.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Andre was superb. He was very knowledgeable and had a great sense of humour. He kept us all entertained and amused but was also solicitous as to individuals' welfare. His judgement was very good in allowing some to press on ahead at their own pace where safety permitted.

Advice for Potential Travellers

The walking on the whole was more leisurely than I expected. This was our first group walking holiday and it is difficult to be precise in the definition of moderate. I enjoyed the week thoroughly but for me some of the walks were strolls. However, Exodus were clear and honest in their description.

Dolomites,Lake Garda,Venice

I travelled from New Zealand and joined this tour on my own. I met a great group from the UK and had the most fantastic time the entire week. I would recommend this tour to everyone, even those who do not cycle a great deal as the trip was mostly down hill on excellent cycle paths and secondary country roads. The views were amazing..

Most Inspirational Moment

Coming through the vineyards to a lookout and seeing Lake Garda appear in front for all to see was amazing!

Thoughts on Group Leader

Michele is "the best guide in the whole world", he always makes sure everyone on the tour is absolutely happy with everything and if not he will sort it out for them. He has a vast knowledge of everything, he has an amazing personality, is always happy and that is why he deserves the title.

Advice for Potential Travellers

The best advice I can give anyone is to "Just do it", this trip is rated as moderate, however it is doable to all cyclists even those who have not ridden very much, fitness is important as we ride everyday. The terrain is easy apart from one hill climb of about 4 kilometers however the work to get to the top is rewarded with the most amazing views. Ask yourself, when was the last time you did something for the first time?

American in Chamonix

I am new to organized group travel and this was far more than I hoped for. The hikes were outstanding! Our guide and hosts were lovely people who did their jobs with knowledge and care, while being friendly and fun to be around. We lucked out with a fantastic travel group and near perfect weather. I am not ashamed to say that I cried when it was time to go. It was a beautiful trip and it was hard to see it end.

Most Inspirational Moment

The Aiguilette des posettes, was my favorite day. A steady climb with views that you could hardly believe would get better the higher you got. Also, the day we hiked in Italy was amazing. The Refugio Bonatti is a place i would love to return to. Incredible wild flowers all through the mountains.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Simon was a wonderful leader. He kept us on route, made adjustments for the group and for weather if needed. I enjoyed that he kept things silly and light, but never compromising the task at hand of safely arriving back at the Chalet for our next delicious meal.

Advice for Potential Travellers

I was a single american woman traveling alone, and this was a very comfortable and wonderful way to see more than I ever would have on my own. Don't overthink it...if you enjoy hiking just book it...it will be joyful.

A week in Jordan

A little longer than a week and worth every penny

Most Inspirational Moment

I could say Petra, I could say the sunset in Wadi Rum, I could say sleeping under the stars, I could say wonderful people, I could say very special company........in fact, it's all of them and more

Thoughts on Group Leader

Our group leader, Danny was inspirational and knowledgeable, which shone through in his pride of his job, his country and its people. Nothing was too much trouble for him

Advice for Potential Travellers

Definitely sleep under the stars in Wadi Rum and not in the tents.......nothing wrong with them, but you'll miss out on a wonderful experience,
