Petra & Wadi Rum by bike

I loved every second of this trip. I was with a fabulous group of people – only 7 of us in total but it was the perfect number. We all got on really well and had some great fun moments.

Most Inspirational Moment

Walking through the Siq into Petra and snorkelling in the Red Sea.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Our group leader Sami was extremely good fun. His knowledge of the area was fantastic and we learnt a lot when we toured the various sites. His restaurant recommendations for our evening meals were perfect. Everything was planned to perfection and we did not have to think for ourselves at all for the whole week. Our cycle leader was Abid and he was a member of the Jordanian National Cycle team. However, he was happy to slow his pace down for us (well me really!).

Advice for Potential Travellers

This trip is classed as moderate but there were some quite steep climbs and some amazingly fast downhills. I have not done road biking for quite a few years and only do spin classes now. However, there were many stops so you were never left behind the group as they would wait while you catch up and the bus and mechanic's truck were always close by and available if need be.

Classic Kenya Safari

Fantastic trip from the moment I arrived until I stepped on the plane to come home. Exceeded my expectations which were high as this was my first safari. Tents on the Masai Mara were great, overlooking the river.

Most Inspirational Moment

So many but probably the perfect shot of an African sunset, lion cubs, a python making a kill, the balloon safari, the multitude of other animal and birdlife we saw and just about everything else!! I also enjoyed visiting the Masai Village and the nature walk at Lake Elementaita.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Davies was superb. Apart from being a phenomenal driver, his knowledge and experience was second to none. Nothing was too much trouble. He was polite and cheery and helped to make the holiday a special one.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Enjoy every second as the time flies past. Take a decent camera with a good zoom as you can't always get too close to some animals but make sure your camera can cope with close-up encounters too! Keep your eyes peeled all the time - there's more out there than just the big five - saw some beautiful birds too. Talk to the local people when you can - you can learn a lot more from them too. Take a torch for the camp as lighting is low in the tents. Optional balloon safari is expensive but worth the experience - glad I did it.

Jordan Delights

Hi All,

I have just returned from an amazing trip to Jordan. The trip was organised very well, and ensured I seen as much as possible of the country in the short time I had available. The Lead Guide was extremely knowledgeable and added to the tour greatly with information on the country, both current and past and on the sites we were visiting. The group was friendly and welcoming and as this was my first time to travel with Exodus totally Solo, I have no hesitation in doing this again. If you haven’t been to the wonders of petra yet, get booking.

Most Inspirational Moment

Arriving at the monastery in Petra -despite the climb, it was spectacular Being in the desert at Wadi-Rum

Thoughts on Group Leader

Danny was very knowledgeable and interacted with the group very well, He gave plenty of information , with a friendly style. He was also helpful when any problems arose.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Do listen to your guide's advice relating to tippng, potential rip-offs,(horse guys at Petra), they are local and they know of any scams.

A great way to chill out and see wildlife at VERY close quarters

Fantastic experience, the best way to see wildlife and great way to relax.

Most Inspirational Moment

The shear number of hypos, elephants and crocodiles that line the river bank has to be seen to be belived. The food that our guide Cutherbert and his trusty assistant created was just incredible.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Cuthbert was amazing. He (and his assistant) were every morning at 4am to get the breakfast on. We had a cooked breakfast and on the water by 7am. Cuthbert then set a pace that was just right for everyone and ensured that the itinerary went exactly to plan without tiring anyone. His knowledge of all things related to the bush were demonstrated on the walk around the fly camp - everything from the latin names of all the trees to the contents of elephant dung were covered. We had chilled drinks on tap which was just incredible. The evening meals cooked on carcoal were delicous and just how he got the charcoal burning in such a short space of time was amazing. Most importantly, Cuthbert ensured we had a safe passage - this trip is not without risks and thanks to our leaders knowledge of the wild life, these were minimised.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Listen to the leader and follow his advice for your safety. Enjoy the trip and take it all in! Ask about extending the last day. In my opinion it was too short and the walking safari in the national park is not that great - the chances of seeing anything are slim given you are out on a flat plain where animals will run off before you get anywhere near. The only down side for us was the campsite at Zambezi Breezers was occupied by some rowdy city folk who spent the night getting drunk - so take ear plugs just in case!

Walking In Tuscany (on a challenging week's trip)

We had a fantastic time. Everything was well organised, so pick up from the airport, and transfer to the accommodation were easy. The brochure had described things well, so it had given us an accurate idea of the holiday. The family run accommodation was charming, with excellent meals provided. The walking was everything we hoped for, and more, with our guide making decisions about where to go each day based on weather conditions, and to show us a variety of terrain, so that we felt we got the best combination of walks possible. There was a short minibus ride each day to the start of the walk, and then back at the end of the day, and a packed lunch was provided each day. As it was one of the ‘challenging weeks’ we made maximum use of daytime hours to be out walking, so we didn’t spend much time back at the farmhouse.

Most Inspirational Moment

Staying one night in the mountain refuge, and the added bonus of wandering out from there in the evening and seeing and hearing red deer on the slopes at the edge of the tree lines. Each days arrival at the summit of wherever we were walking, and the spectacular views.

Thoughts on Group Leader

We thought our group leader Sara Bull was fantastic. She has a wealth of knowledge and skills in leading and organising, and she was absolutely committed to making sure we all had the best time possible.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Give Exodus a go. It was the first time we had been with Exodus, and it has wet our appetite for more. If you are unsure about any details of the trip, or have anything you would like to check in more detail beforehand, they will be happy to answer your questions, and to advise you.

Great trip

This was a fantastic trip which offered a really good mixture of cycling & sightseeing (countryside, cities, historical monuments & wonders of the world).

I especially loved the cycling in Thailand, which is where most of the riding is done (the trip notes are not up to date so the mileage each day is a bit different in reality). The Thai cycling team are absolutely fantastic so you can go as fast or as slow as you like & I loved going for it. The feeling of freedom cycling along long rural roads in the sun passing, among other things, paddy fields, water buffalo & rubber tree plantations is amazing.

In Cambodia it is more about the sights – Angkor Wat, killing fields etc so there is less cycling & what there is is a bit slower & the group has to stay together due to the roads being very busy. I would recommend reading up a little in advance of the trip so you can make the most & really understand what you’re going to see as the local guides cant possibly tell you everything.

In Vietnam again the cycling is quite easy but it’s a really amazing place. The people of Vietnam are so welcoming with the homestay & Saigon being two of my favourite parts of the whole trip. The optional visit to the Cu Chi Tunnels is also a must.

Most Inspirational Moment

Sounds obvious but the cycling was the highlight of my trip. The scenery was beautiful & it was lovely to ride along in such great surroundings, chatting to the group & the guides. I just felt great & everyone was lovely.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Nee was brilliant - she made sure everyone was Ok at all times, organised us all, got us across the borders (not a particularly relaxing experience!), made an effort to socialise with the group & kept everything under control, but with good humour throughout.

Advice for Potential Travellers

The mozzies weren't as bad as some of the other reviewers have suggested (at least not in Sept when I went), so don't worry too much about that! I usually get bitten to death so was dreading that side of it but only got a couple of bites. Definitely take a gel seat cover as none of the bike saddles are especially comfortable. I took one & was very glad of it. Prepare yourself for some very basic bathroom facilities. They're fine but most Westerners aren't used to squatting so warm your thighs up!

Right First Time!

This was our first actual trip with Exodus and it was all that we hoped for, and more. The balance of walking, wine tasting and culture was spot on! Villa Casalta accommodation was great – simple in a traditional way, owner and Marguerite warmly welcoming and helpful, beautiful swimming pool (used by several of us even though it was end of Sept), entertaining dog (Stella) and cat, with only a slow off-road 20 minute walk to pretty town of Castellina.

Most Inspirational Moment

The local tour guide on the day of walking around Castellina. Sarah was a gem - very knowledgeable, passionate about Chianti and the Etruscans, she brought the history to life as she shared the experiences of her own family in the locale - and she was delightful.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Liz was excellent - very organised, managed the accident of one of the team members calmly and professionally, worked hard to organize special requests, rearranged some activities to better utilise time and energy

Inca Trail Sept 2014

Excellent trip. Excellent value for money. Warmer at night than expected. Food amazing and tasty. The trail was alot tougher than expected…however the guides and porters looked after us so well it made the walk pleasureable.

Most Inspirational Moment

The sense of achievement in accomplishing the trail. The views were spectacular.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Caesar our group leader was amazing. Fantastic english. Very knowledgeable about the tour, sharing his knowledge frequently...He was very supportive and organised...Felt safe with him as soon as we met.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Be fit..it is tough. You dont need to take too many snacks as the food is good. Take some juice as the boiled filtered water tastes a little unpleasant on the last couple of days. Walking poles are needed..altitude sickness tablets need to be considered as we found it unpleasant for several days .

Cycling the Western cape and Winelands.

Excellent trip, totally wonderful experience. The cycling was great but be prepared to be cycling into a head wind most days! Accomdation overall was excellent but 2/3 nights were less so. Lovely scenery and plenty of wildlife to spot.

Most Inspirational Moment

Highlights included spotting whales, cycling chapmans peak and visiting table mountain. Cycling the coast was fantastic, with some great views and some great climbs.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Group leader and support driver were both excellent. Super organised, full of energy and enthusiasm. Nothing was too much trouble. We were well looked after from day 1.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Take some layers, it's a cold wind at times. Food is excellent value for money and eating out is not expensive. If you like wine, this trip will suit you!

Suzy Hargreavez

To travel from north to south seeing the total diversity of Vietnam was amazing and breathvtaking.

Most Inspirational Moment

Ha Long bay and Mekong Delta, plus unexpectedly the food.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Cong was so attentive and always there to point you to the best bits.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Totally safe for singles, family and couples, the Vietnamese such friendly people. Just be wary crossing roads :)
