Kenya &Tanzania Adventure

Going on the safari trip to Kenya & Tanzania ,finishing off in Zanzibar .

Any tips on what to take  or what to avoid.

Regarding money was it best to take dollars only? was it easy enough to get the visa to cross into Tanzania ?

We have an extra night at the start in Nairobi, is it easy to get to the Karen Blixen museum?

Are you going on the 13th by and chance? I'm afraid I don't know many answers yo your questions. Exodus themselves told me to get the Kenyan visa online and then the Tanzanian visa when entering.

Have you been on a camping trip before?

Helen

We will be out the day before flying with KLM.

Need to start process of obtaining visa .Are you on your own?We are 2 senior ladies

We're on the same trip then! I'm travelling with my Husband and my Mum and Dad. Thoroughly looking forward to it! We're flying out the first day of the trip. Have you done this type of trip before?

Yes I did an overland trip a few years ago Livingstone Falls, Botswana ,Namibia and down to Cape Town. That was a superb trip although the falls were a bit disappointing as the water levels were low! We saw loads of wildlife so hoping for same this trip.Be prepareded for long journeys and the tents we had were not big  and it is dark!

Dollars tends to be the currency but I am thinking of getting some Kenyan shillings as we are there for a day before we set off.

I am awaiting my passport with visa when I tried to do it on line the I kept getting an error message, so have done it through Trailfinders the company we used to book the trip.

Sorry for late response life just gets busy!Where are you travelling from?

No worries! :-)

We're coming from Essex, you?

We've done a few camping trips before......I love them! Mum and Dad have done loads of them. This is the husbands first camping trip tho.

We did the Vic Falls from Zimbabwe last year in the wet season. Pretty impressive I can assure you!

I hope they get the error sorted soon........we're doing ours in in the near future. What are your plans whilst you're in nairobi? When we've been before we went to the David Sheldrick Elephant Orphanage. Great place to go......thoroughly recommend doing that if you have time!

It's getting close! You guys will be the experts then having done all these trips!

This trip has lockers rather than just piling it all on the vehicle.Dimensions are not too clear on the trip notes ...i.e width? I plan to take a soft bag but it has a firm bottom and a set of wheels.Have you sorted out your luggage yet I do not want to take a big rucksack.Overall should squeeze in the alloted space.

I believe there are 12 on the trip 5 males and 7 males .Do you know what time innthe morning we start on the actual trip?

Nearly there! Visas and malarone sorted.

Luggage wise we use the exodus bags most of the time. They're great bags and they're like a tardis.

Not sure what the locker sizes are. If I remember rightly last time I could get my backpack in it and it' a fair sized back pack. Obviously these could be different though.

I think we land 5ish but don't know what time the trip actually starts!

Helen

Got the money, tablets etc and decided on the bag ....now to decide what to put in it.Any hot tips on what to include ,other than wipes, torches and long sleeved things expecting it be cool at night.Obviously no fancy gear for the camping as I am sure it will get pretty dusty. Notice from your pic you have the proper safari hat so that will be on my list too!

I checked, so we will be taken from the hotel to meet your flight  and then we are on the road.We fly out of Aberdeen to Amsterdam then to Nairobi so quite a long journey.

Just been in to see the latest documentaryfilm on Jane Goodall with the chimps in Tanzania. Good footage on the Serengeti from her ex/late husbands filming.

Happy Christmas to you and looking forward to our trip.

Hope you had a good christmas?!

Zip off trousers are handy although week 2 they won't be matching colours! Quick drying clothes are always a bonus and a couple of those travel towels are good. (I always take 2 as everything gets filthy!) I always take a scarf (If the truck is open sided you get buffered by the wind a lot!) Lightweight fabric that doesn't over heat you!

My hat.....i love my hat. I bought it for when I worked in South Africa for a short while. It's made by Wombat hats. It's good if you do any walking as it protects from the acacia thorns.

We're going to re-watch BBCs 'Africa' before we go. Will have to see about the documentary you said about.

Have you decided what you're going to do in Nairobi?

Happy New Year!

Enjoy your free time then! :-)

Temperature sounds good....hopefully not too hot! We've not had much issue with bugs in the tents. They have a bug netting on then. A few ants but no flyers.

Been getting a few bits ready to pack. Almost all ready to go.

We'll keep any eye/ear out for you once we've landed and got through security then!

Helen
