Itinerary

Agerola
to
Agerola
  • Day 1

    Start Bomerano (Agerola).

Start Bomerano, a small village in the municipality of Agerola. Our comfortable family-run hotel is located in proximity of the town centre and provides a relaxing retreat from the busier towns by the sea.

    Meals included: Dinner
  • Day 2

Sightseeing in Amalfi and glorious Ravello.

Leaving the Agerola plain we descend by private bus to Amalfi. The town is the largest on the coast and was popular in Edwardian times with the British upper classes as a winter holiday destination. The large Duomo Cathedral dominates the town with its bright coloured tiles which are typical of the region. Continuing on by bus we climb to the romantic town of Ravello for some of the best views of the Amalfi coastline. Ravello also has a grand Duomo but the Villa Rufolo and Villa Cimbrone are thereal gems of the town. Set amidst elegant gardens, the villas balconies stand at the edge of the cliffs offering stunning views aptly described by André Gide as 'closer to the sky than the seashore'. There is time to wander, enjoy a coffee and soak up the atmosphere before we return to the cooler climes of Bomerano.

Please note that entrance ticket to Villa Cimbrone is included in the trip from 2018.

    Meals included: Breakfast Dinner
  • Day 3

Visit Herculaneum ruins; up to Vesuvius for short optional walk.

We transfer after breakfast to the Bay of Naples where we will spend the morning visiting the intriguing city of Herculaneum. Buried in AD 79 by a giant mudslide, triggered by the eruption of Mt Vesuvius, the perfectly preserved remains give us an amazing insight into the life of a Roman city. After lunch we will travel by bus high up onto the slopes of Vesuvius itself. Depending on weather conditions, you may choose to be led by a specialist Volcano guide through one of the many incredible walks around the crater of Vesuvius (optional).

    Meals included: Breakfast Dinner
  • Day 4

Spectacular 'Walk of the Gods' to Positano; boat to Amalfi.

Today we enjoy one of the world's finest day walks. Leaving from our front door step it's a short stroll through the quiet village of Bomerano before we join the 'Walk of the Gods'. The route follows the contours of the land for the majority of the day with amazing views of the Amalfi coastline far below. In season the meadows are carpeted with flowers and the coastal waters teem with cruisers and pleasure boats. Our final destination is Positano, a near vertical town of colourful buildings reached by a network of ancient paths and tracks. On the way there is plenty of time to admire the beautiful views of the Amalfi before we descend 1500 steps to the beautiful coastal town. There is time for private exploration before we return in the late afternoon to our hotel by boat and bus.

    Meals included: Breakfast Dinner
  • Day 5

Free day to relax, visit Pompeii, or take a boat ride along the coast (all optional).

Today is free to relax around Bomerano, take an self-guided walk either through the hills or down to the sea or maybe enjoy a boat ride along the coast to some famous Amalfi coast towns. Alternatively a private transfer can be arranged to the vast buried city of Pompeii (optional).

    Meals included: Breakfast
  • Day 6

Naples sightseeing including Piazza Plebiscito and the National Museum.

We return to the Bay of Naples for a day of sightseeing. Our tour leader will provide an orientation tour through the Naples top attractions including Piazza Plebiscito and the National Museum (entrance is optional). Naples has a mixed reputation as a city but the electric atmosphere and mix of modern and historic architecture make it a unique Mediterranean city worth visiting. After the sightseeing there will be free time to explore before we return to our hotel.

    Meals included: Breakfast Dinner
  • Day 7

Boat to Capri; free afternoon to explore the island.

We leave the hotel after breakfast and take the bus down to Amalfi and board the boat to Capri. The journey along the Amalfi Coast is spectacular with small coves and bays of clear azure water overlooked by towering cliffs. The time spent on Capri is unguided and on arrival you are free to explore independently. Your tour leader however might recommend to maximise your time on the island and arrange an excursion by local taxis and cable car (optional, paybale locally). A beautiful walk will take you up to Capri town and along a network of small pedestrianised streets to visit the remains of Villa Jovis, the former home of the fearsome Roman emperor Tiberius. A walk around the spectacular coastline is recommended and allows you to see a natural rock arch and the famous Faraglioni, rock stacks which stick vertically out of the sea. There is also time to do a spot of shopping in some of islands boutique shops before we return by boat and bus to our hotel.

    Meals included: Breakfast Dinner
  • Day 8

    End Bomerano (Agerola).

Our tour ends in the morning of day 8.

    Meals included: Breakfast

Weather

Is this trip for you?

The trip involves travel by private bus plus boats and includes guided walks and sightseeing on foot in a number of places. The walking isn't too strenuous, but you need a good base level of fitness. During the days with walking included, the terrain and type of path will vary from manmade paved tracks, tarmac, forest trails to gravel/cinder paths on Mount Vesuvius. Here there are also steep sections and quite large drops in places. The final section of the ‘Walk of the Gods’ descends to Positano down 1700 stone steps, which is possible to avoid by taking a bus. In places the paths are a little exposed and not suitable for severe vertigo sufferers. Please be aware that the Amalfi Coast can also be very warm, possibly reaching 35 degrees in the summer months between July and September so keeping hydrated throughout the day is highly recommended. The overall Activity Level for this trip is 1 (Leisurely) meaning that it is suitable for all people who are in good health and fitness.

Accommodation

Hotel Due Torri

We spend 7 nights at the 3-star Hotel Due Torri in Bomerano, a small village in the municipality of Agerola, set high above the Amalfi Coast at an altitude of approximately 700m. Run by the warm and welcoming Acampora family, the Hotel Due Torri is well known for its great local cuisine, providing authentic dishes of the Campania region as well as fun pizza-making demonstrations. All rooms have en suite facilities, air conditioning and free Wi-Fi.

A limited number of superior rooms (with facilities including Jacuzzi bath, power showers and fridge) are also available for a supplement from £190 or equivalent per room payable pre-departure. Please ask your sales consultant for further info.

Being higher up in the hills the property offers the benefit of cooler nights, although beaches are not too far away and there is small outdoor pool. The village is generally quiet and provides a relaxing contrast to the busier towns by the sea.

On occasion if the hotel is full you might be offered (upon booking) to stay at an alternative accommodation located within walking distance from the Due Torri. Guests staying at alternative accommodation will still make use of all the facilities of Hotel Due Torri, including pool and restaurant.

    Amalfi Experience

A super trip to experience many different features of the Amalfi coast ranging from its mountain villages and history down to its fashionable resorts - a real contrast.

What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?

The 'Walk of the Gods' gave a real taste of rural life in remote communities coupled with absolutely stunning views of the coast from on high making the clash with the hustle and tourist Mecca of Positano all the greater. The scheduled visit to Herculaneum and Vesuvius made the trip to Pompeii on the free day all the more relevant and well worth doing.

What did you think of your group leader?

Severio was charm itself, helpful and concerned for all, he took real care of the group and was an excellent guide.

Do you have any advice for potential travellers?

Be aware that in August whilst Italy can be very hot, with sensible precautions it is perfectly manageable. The village of Bomerano has basic shopping facilities along with some nice restaurants and cafes in the square but allow for the fact that the afternoon siesta is rigorously adhered to as far as the shops are concerned. On the day of departure you will not leave until 4.00pm so plan to do something with the time available; a leisurely coffee/lunch is well and good but allow time to walk up to the forest viewing platform overlooking the coast, it is signposted from the main car park in the village and involves a 1 km walk but absolutely worth it and a circular walk on minor roads will bring you back into the village by the hotel.

Is there anything else you would like to add?

    Enjoy!

    Amazing Amalfi Coast

An absolutely delightful trip with lots of stunning scenery, great days out, wonderful company and lovely food. The Amalfi Coast is one of the most beautiful places I have ever been - and I have been to a lot of them. There are no long drives on this trip at all which is great but even when you are on the bus the views are so spectacular the journey just flies by. The Hotel Due Torri is a lovely family run hotel with fabulous meals. I particularly enjoyed the optional evening in which we did a bbq as the seafood was divine. They also have a great cocktail menu which most of us took advantage of.

What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?

I loved the Path of the Gods walk as it is just stunning and wasn't as hard as I expected. I enjoyed it so much I would be tempted to go back and do the walking tour as it is a very nice area for walking. On the free day we did walk down to Priaino and Marina Dei Praia which was great as well. Capri is just stunning and I would also recommend going to Villa Cimbrone in Ravello as many of us felt this was a definite highlight.

What did you think of your group leader?

Severio was a good tour leader. He was a really nice guy and everything ran really smoothly. The only thing I would say is that I would have liked a little more information on some of the places we visited.

Do you have any advice for potential travellers?

    Just go!

    Highlights of the Amalfi Coast

This was an excellent trip in a very beautiful part of Italy. We visited many fascinating places and stayed in a lovely hotel with friendly staff and great food.

What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?

Completing the Walk of the Gods which was challenging but worth it for the amazing views, the wonderful lunch half-way through and the sense of satisfaction at having made it to the end. Herculaneum was also fascinating to visit.

What did you think of your group leader?

Eduardo was a wonderful guide. Nothing was ever too much trouble for him and he made sure that everyone was happy and all their needs met. He had a great knowledge of the local area and imparted it with humour.

Do you have any advice for potential travellers?

Eating out is quite expensive in Italy.

Is there anything else you would like to add?

Our return flight was cancelled by British Airways due to an IT crash. We feared we would be left stranded at Naples Airport but our guide arranged for us to return to Bomerano and ensured that the entire group had food and accommodation for as long as necessary. Exodus was wonderful in finding us all alternative flights home. The support we received from Eduardo, Valentina, the hotel staff and Exodus head office was exemplary and helped us cope with a very stressful situation.

    Highlights of the Amalfi Coast

I had always wanted to visit the Amalfi Coast and wasn't disappointed. The weather was sunny and warm all week, despite it being late October. The hotel staff were fab, the food plentiful and of a really high quality - and they catered brilliantly for my gluten/dairy free dietary requirements.

What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?

We visited all of the main sights and had knowledgeable but fun guides at both Pompeii and Vesuvius. Herculaneum was another highlight, as was the the Walk of the Gods.

What did you think of your group leader?

Severio was great - really knowledgeable about the area with excellent English. He also rearranged the itinerary to ensure we got to Capri as the ferries were stopping running that week. He also arranged for us to join the hiking group staying at the same hotel to save us money on a trip to Pompeii.

Do you have any advice for potential travellers?

Wear hiking boots on the Walk of the Gods, not just waking shoes.

    Amazing Amalfi, Lovely Limoncello

This was a well organized trip with varied activities each day - a good mix of walking, culture and cuisine. It was an excellent introduction to this beautiful area, which made us want to return. Every member of our happy group helped to make it a memorable tour.

What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?

The Walk of the Gods, Herculaneum and Pompeii. Our group meals with wine and limoncello! The cooking demonstrations at the hotel.

What did you think of your group leader?

Eduardo shared his unique knowledge of the area in which he lives and seemed to know everyone. Not only did he skilfully steer us through the week's itinerary but also made himself available to help us make use of our 'free time'. A great combination of professionalism and fun. Without Eduardo we would not have discovered some of the local places of interest.

Do you have any advice for potential travellers?

The least leisurely day was the one when we did the Walk of the Gods. It is not strenuous most of the way but you need to be able to manage a few areas of rocky terrain / boulders and take your time. Stopping to admire the views is a good idea anyway. Once you finish it, you feel a sense of achievement. Walking poles help but don't rely on the ones at the hotel. These are abandoned by previous walkers and not all in good enough condition.

Is there anything else you would like to add?

We are glad we made this trip and if you are thinking of a visit to the Amalfi coast, we doubt whether you can do better than booking this one!

Great Location, group, food, hotel and an amazing experience

A memorable holiday for all the right reasons. The group was a wide age range, who all got on and supported each other. A pleasure to share a holiday with such lovely people, not forgetting Eduardo our lovely guide. The itinerary was good but quite full on, would not describe it as a leisurely holiday. Free day spent in Boneramo was a welcome relaxing break. Hotel provided great food, good service and staff where efficient. Visited many beautiful places and always made welcome. Would definitely recommend this holiday and Exodus Holidays.

What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?

Completing the Walk of the Gods regardless of initial apprehension. Felt a great sense of achievement.

What did you think of your group leader?

Eduardo was a wealth of local knowledge, supportive and has good sense of humour !

Do you have any advice for potential travellers?

For Walk of the Gods wear boots and take walking poles, water and a hat if sunny.

Is there anything else you would like to add?

    Lived up to expectations !

    Highlights of Amalfi Coast

A great trip which included the best highlights of the AC. Full days so there was no time to be bored!

What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?

The walk of the Gods...an amazing experience and though it was 6 hours, the time flew and the scenery was spectacular. Positano was a nice finishing point.

What did you think of your group leader?

Knowledgeable and well versed on the area.

Do you have any advice for potential travellers?

Use your free evening to get out of Bomerano and perhaps have dinner in Amalfi, which has a bus sevice. Though the hotel was fab and food perfect, Bomerano is not a typical Amalfi town and I feel.that people should be encouraged to have a break away from one night. There was no encouragement to move from the hotel and we were presented with a hotel menu the night before rather than alternative options offered I choose Amalfi and had a lovely evening with a chance to soak up the lights of this little town at night.

Is there anything else you would like to add?

See above. The hotel staff were incredible and the chefs cooked with us on 2 different nights. A beautiful family run hotel who facilitated everyone's dietary requirements and looked after us very well.

    Fabulous Holiday

Just back from this trip and left wanting to return. Hotel serves very good food and the staff really look after you. Each day is very different and full leaving very little time to sit by the small pool before dinner. You will see all there is too see on the Amalfi Coast which is absolutely stunning. I was with a great bunch of people.

What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?

Visiting Herculaneum, Ravello, Pompeii, Path of the Gods, walking up last part of Vesuvius and Naples. I intended not to visit Naples, however, I was pleased I did as Eduardo took the group to fabulous places especially a special restaurant for lunch.

What did you think of your group leader?

Eduardo is very knowledgable and seems to know everyone along the Amalfi Coast! He arranges all the transport at the right time to suit each day. He took eight of us to Pompeii on the free day and arranged a guide.

Do you have any advice for potential travellers?

The trip is full but you see so much so just enjoy every moment. You do need walking poles for Vesuvius and especially path of the gods. I did the 700 steps which was hard in the heat but would recommend as fabulous views. Positano is wonderful too especially the ice cream after walk!

Is there anything else you would like to add?

Recommend you book trip. I wish I had added on a week in Sicily.
