Most Inspirational Moment
Too many, though the two days we spent in a nearly-empty Petra were just breath-taking. If you can make it up to Monastery and/or the High Place of Sacrifice you will be well rewarded with stunning scenery along the way. The High Place of Sacrifice is a slightly easier climb, and the long walk down through the Wadi was spectacular. Nothing really beats the feeling of anticipation walking down the deserted Siq and seeing the Treasury peak out from behind the canyon. The preservation of Jerash was incredible, exploring was a close second to Petra.
Thoughts on Group Leader
We were a small but lively group and Mikhled did an amazing job keeping us all entertained and happy. He went out of his way to answer our questions and showed us loads of historic images about how the sites we had visited were discovered. He kept us organised with all the different trip options, which was no mean feat. I'd love to go on this trip again but would have to guarantee Mikhled was the leader.
Advice for Potential Travellers
Pack a small bag for the transfer into Wadi Rum as your suitcase won't be going with you, and if you are a winter departure pack layers! Also another small bag with swimming gear for Aqaba as you'll go straight from Wadi Rum to the Read Sea resort. It's a action-packed itinerary, so just embrace it and sleep either on the mini or back home. I did all the optional extras - Petra by Night, Little Petra, camel rides in Wadi Rum, snorkelling in Aqaba and Bethany-by-the-Jordan and do not regret a single thing. Jordan is not a cheap country but doing all these really added to my enjoyment of the trip and the experience as a whole.
Suggestions
Just go. Jordan is safe, despite everything happening in surrounding countries. The people are kind, humble, welcoming and eager to show off their country. The food was amazing (coming from a notoriously fussy eater) and there's something for everyone. The whole trip was such an incredible experience, I've tried my best to put it into words but can't really do it justice.
