Garden Route - to Cape Town

This was my first time as a solo traveler and I had some reservations. I can honestly say that i had a fantastic time. The whole group were so friendly – we had couples and singles – and everyone was incredibly friendly and inclusive. Our guide, Jan, was excellent and went over and above in ensuring the whole group had a wonderful trip.

Most Inspirational Moment

It is difficult to say what was the most inspirational moment as there were so many different events. The lion looking into my eyes (maybe not quite but it seemed to be), the elephants close by the Land Rover - the fantastic views from Knysna Head - Robben Island - the amazing food - and the friendly people.

Thoughts on Group Leader

I can not praise Jan enough. From first to last he went over and above. What more can i say!

Advice for Potential Travellers

Go for it! Enjoy!

Great wildlife

The scenery and wildlife were wonderful and the team who looked after us on safari did an excellent job. Stonetown was fascinating and the 3 days by the beach were a relaxing end to the trip. The camping was very basic – small tents in muddy fields with primitive toilets.

Most Inspirational Moment

Seeing lions and vast herds of zebra on the Serengeti.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Patrick was extremely knowledgeable and helpful.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Take a lantern, not just a torch, so that you can see what you are doing better in the tent and read it you want to.

Cycling and curry

A wonderful holiday with wonderful people! Our exceptional hosts Ruwan and team lead us on an amazing journey, exploring the countryside, the wildlife and introducing us to their culture and way of life. I was very much looking forward to my first trip to Sri Lanka and I loved it. Cycling through the countryside, paddy fields teaming with bird life, being greeted with big smiles and high fives from the locals was a real pleasure. I really enjoyed the hilly days, some are challenging then the lion beer, curry and rice at the end of the day are perfect.

Most Inspirational Moment

Cycling down hill after cycling uphill

Thoughts on Group Leader

Ruwan was very knowledgeable and very proud of Sri Lanka, I felt privileged to have him as my guide.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Give it plenty in 2020.....go for it

Ethiopia in Depth

Overall, it was an interesting and very enjoyable experience. Our guide, Yitbarek, was very well organized, knowledgeable, and his love for his country and people shone through. Scenery was spectacular. Hotels, food, and wine ranged in quality, but I went knowing Ethiopia’s infrastructures were poor as were many of the roads. Timket was amazing.

Most Inspirational Moment

The Timket festival.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Excellent. Well organized, calm, and accommodating when possible. As stated in Summary, his love for his country and people shone through.

A trip for your bucket list.

I have done many cycling trips with Exodus and without doubt, this is the best of the lot. If you want a good mix of cycling with plenty of time for afternoons by the poolside, this is the trip for you. The climb to Ooty is exactly as described on the tin and it’s tough. The rest of the tour is all within the average cyclists capabilities. Only one 4 hour bus transfer during the trip, the rest pretty much involved finishing the days ride at your destination hotel. The whole trip ran like clockwork and that’s no accident all thanks to our first class tour guide Joseph, Maneesh and Kam, our excellent bike team. We were a mixed group of 13 like minded people and it worked perfectly.

Most Inspirational Moment

For me, cycling through the villages in Karnataka where sometimes time seems to simply stand still and the rice barge trip on the backwaters of Kerala.

Thoughts on Group Leader

There is simply no better guide than Joseph. Absolutely faultless and a truly nice bloke.

Advice for Potential Travellers

If you only ever do one cycling tour in Asia, do this one.

Gorillas and Masai Mara

Saw the most incredible wildlife, expert and professional team in Gilbert, Albert, Stoney and James and a wonderful road trip across E. Africa.

Most Inspirational Moment

Too many to mention but the Gorillas next to us was special.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Gilbert was professional, fun, accommodating and a joy to travel with.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Just do it. The best trip yet!

Wonderful experience

This was a fantastic couple of weeks. Joseph and his team are absolutely first class. The cycling is easy apart from that climb up to Ooty! Lots of magical memories.

Most Inspirational Moment

The visit to the temple at Guruvayoor. Farm walk and chai at the farmhouse. Seeing elephants in the wild. Home stay lunch. Houseboat.

Thoughts on Group Leader

First class.

Great trip overall - a real journey

Just returned from this trip . Myself , my husband and 3 more friends went on the trip – we are all keen on cycle touring. For myself and my husband, our overall experience was very good . Our guide, Chai was the best we have ever had . He dealt with a varied group with humour, fantastic organisation and always a smile. The group we were with was made up of British , Canadian, American and Australian cyclists . The group was great and bonded well under Chai’s expert guidance.
Culturally the trip is very interesting – Angkor Wat is fascinating and beautiful and the Killing Fields in Cambodia were life changing. Travelling through the 3 countries and seeing the various levels of development, political situations and living conditions was interesting and sometimes disturbing.
However the cycling itself was sometimes disappointing – in the first few days there is rather a lot of cycling along straight, featureless , flat roads in 35 degrees of heat. Being taken out to eat local food in the evenings was very enjoyable and welcome after this.
Cycling around Angkor Wat and the various temples which make up the complex was beautiful and the cycling in Vietnam is amazing – cycling through communities , hopping on and off ferries – everywhere a riot of colour and interest.

Most Inspirational Moment

Hearing the story of our young female guide in Phnom Pen give an emotional and personal account of the Polpot regime and life in Cambodia nowadays moved me to tears . Cycling around Angkor Wat Hearing our guide talk about his humane and pragmatic approach to Buddhism Cycling through villages and communities in Vietnam

Thoughts on Group Leader

Chai was quite simply one of the nicest human beings I have ever met and an inspirational guide and leader.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Be prepared for the first few days of cycling which are long , scenery is not spectacular and it is very hot. It does get better! We are reasonably strong cyclists and were able to find enjoyment in blasting down the long, straight, quiet roads but still found the heat a challenge. Chai managed it well though and arranged stops every 8-10 miles to re-group and cool down. The team were always waiting with very welcome and delicious snacks and drinks. Go easy on them if you don't want to gain weight. Cycling around the Angkor Wat temples and in Vietnam is lovely. Go out with the guide to eat in the evenings - the local food and experience is fantastic and hotel food often very average. We did not get ill.

A ‘must do’ for the ‘bucket list’!

An excellent trip with Edward our leader, Felix our driver and Primo the very best boatman in Tortuguero. Our 2 days in Tortuguero were a highlight with the boat trips and we were very lucky with the weather. You definitely need plenty of thin cotton clothes – nothing dries in the humidity and layers for the cooler areas. We felt well prepared having read the trip notes and the recent reviews. Plenty of bug spray, umbrella, waterproof or poncho and a good hat. Excellent food especially the fruit and fish and accommodation better than we had expected. The spa at the last hotel was an unexpected bonus – well worth having a massage and jacuzzi after a busy holiday! We enjoyed the happy hours to sample local cocktails (some more than others!). Our group of 16 was an eclectic mix who got on extremely well, always ready for a laugh and a challenge and got on really well.

Most Inspirational Moment

5.30 am boat trip down the water channels at Tortuguero looking for wildlife - superb!

Thoughts on Group Leader

Edward was very professional, personable and smart both in appearance and knowledge. He was flexible, wanting to meet the whole group’s individual needs and good fun. He was always willing to organise extra things for us to give us the best experience of his beloved country.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Read the trip notes and recent reviews and make sure you have a good camera, binoculars, umbrella, waterproof or poncho and a good hat.
