Fabulous trip, something for everyone

An amazing, eye-opening trip for our family of 4 – ages from 13 to 59. We all loved it.

Most Inspirational Moment

It was different for each of us. Photography at Ta Prohm. Ziplining over the jungle. Being in the pool with our new friends every night. Meeting small producers at sustainable businesses. Eating tarantulas. Learning about history at the Cu Chi tunnels and the Killing Fields. Boat trips, floating markets. Learning about real life in these countries from guides who were born and live there. Laughing a lot.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Absolutely amazing. We loved them. They are people who love their jobs and genuinely enjoy meeting people from different places and showing them the wonders of their countries. Nin in Cambodia was a a fount of knowledge about the ancient sites we saw. She combined this with stories from her own life and a taste for bad jokes - we were able to give her some new ones. TV in Vietnam made us welcome and entertained us with his gentle humour. They were both focussed on making sure we had the best possible time. We only had our Bangkok guide for 2 days, but he was cheerful and welcoming, and very helpful and efficient when I had a medical problem.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Go with your eyes open and a good camera. Take a good alarm clock too - there are some early starts. It's exhausting but so worth it. I wish I'd written a diary.

Stunning Scenery

This was a thoroughly enjoyable trip. The location in Moneglia is superb. The beach right opposite is beautiful. The breakfasts were great in the Piccolo too. We loved the spectacular scenery of the Cinque Terre and Portofino although they are very busy locations. The best views are from above as you walk down towards them. We made wonderful new friends and enjoyed sharing meals and drinks with them. 100% recommendation.

Most Inspirational Moment

Making great friends and sharing the amazing views and experiences.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Mikaela was a superb leader and had a very friendly and accommodating manner. She had great sense of humour, was fun and made everything seem possible and enjoyable.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Walking boots not shoes are advisable and walking poles as some sections are steep or slippery.

Fabulous walks and scenery

From the first day the scenery was just breathtaking. Walking can be a little challenging at times depending on fitness. Piccolo Hotel Moneglia very good. Lots of restaurants to eat out in of an evening. The villages are just as you imagine however can get very crowded. The group of people we walked with were great fun and a good mix of ages. A fabulous holiday.

Most Inspirational Moment

Seeing the villages from the paths. They are just stunning. Wine tasting in Moneglia with Lucca who was so knowledgeable and inspirational. We also had a fantastic meal at the restaurant.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Michela our group leader was lovely. So understated. Very efficient, knowledgeable about the area and managing the group in a gentle manner. A pleasure to walk with her.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Fitness does help with this walk as lots of ascents and descents. So get some training in before you go. However there are alternatives to some of the climbs. We had a room with a balcony over looking the sea. There is a supplement however it was worth it as these rooms are larger. The sandy beach at Moneglia is lovely and the swimming was excellent I am told.

Whales and Bears of British Columbia

A wonderful trip with some long days of driving but these were mostly broken by regular stops, including some quirky lunch spots. Vancouver and Vancouver Island in particular are stunningly beautiful.

Most Inspirational Moment

The full day trip to see Humpback Whales and Grizzly bears. A whole day in a day of dramatic scenery and whale sitings on the journeys to and from the bear observation site. Climbing to the top of Chinese Mountain on Quadra Island while others in the group kayaked. Incredible views from the top. The other was an add on after staying on in Vancouver. My travelling companion and I took a seaplane flight on the mail run. 2 hours of flying with 4 take offs and landings.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Claude managed very well considering he had led the tour before and many things were new to him. He was alert to the needs of the group and kept us on schedule when timings were tight.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Stay on for a few extra days in Vancouver. There is loads to do. Not necessarily the obvious things. We didn't go up Grouse Mountain or to the Capilano suspension bridge. We did get the bus to the University area - easy on the bus, to go to the Museum of Anthropology and Nitobe Garden. We went back for an evening in Kitsilano for a great night at Rogue Folk Club after checking out the events listings. Saw Mamas Broke and The Burying Ground. Again, easy on the bus. Check out the Cathedral, Bill Reid Gallery and the art deco Marine Building. On a clear day get a float plane. Worth the expense.

Walking - the Turquoise Coast Not a leisurely stroll!

The group were very friendly and the hotel was great. Clean, modern, good location and a lovely pool. The guide was a good host and organised lovely restaurants every evening for us all. The walks however were not as advertised as some of the tracks are apparently now closed. The replacement walks were very challenging, steep ascents and descents on scree paths and rocky tracks sheer drops. The itinerary stated the longest walk was 8 k but it was actually 14k . One walk involved scrambling across a rocky path with a rope bridge and another bouldering across a cliff face with a steep drop. Not the leisurely walking detailed in the trip notes. and far too challenging for some group members The trip is graded 2 but was more challenging than the grade 3 trip I did before. The notes also do not indicate that there will be charges for the kayaking trip and lunch on the Arycanda trip. The trip is run by a local travel company and there is a definite disconnect between what is advertised and what you get. It is a great trip in a lovely location for someone who is fit and OK with heights but not the leisurely trip advertised

Thoughts on Group Leader

Keen and enthusiastic, great at organising dinners but not very good at assessing the walks and the groups ability.

Advice for Potential Travellers

This is not a leisurely grade 2 trip and not suitable for people with vertigo

Wonderful wildlife

A superb trip visiting some of Borneo’s national Parks and remaining rainforests. Every day a different highlight. We saw some amazing flora and fauna from the big (elephants) to the small (lots of frogs). In between we saw wild orangutans, at least 70 different species of birds topped by 7 different hornbills, reptiles (yes crocodiles), lizards and beautiful butterflies. And, of course, stunning rainforest.

Most Inspirational Moment

early morning on canopy walkway above the rainforest. Seeing the dawn light on all the different shapes and forms of trees was a magical moment

Thoughts on Group Leader

Manual was superb. he has a deep knowledge of all the flora and fauna as well as being an excellent spotter of hidden wildlife. His skills greatly enhanced he trip. He went to considerable lengths to ensure we saw as much as possible - and to sort out all the inevitable minor hitches

Advice for Potential Travellers

Do as much of the activities as you can - don't expect a lot of sleep or free time! an umbrella came in handy -especially in the evenings walking to/from supper.

Great leader and super enjoyable cycling

Davide was a first class leader – fun, adaptable, friendly, considerate, and managed the group really well; he deserves 5 stars personally. E-bikes were the best ever. Excellent hotels except the one in Syracusa which is not an acceptable standard (room and breakfast). Fascinating insight into Sicilian history, culture and ecology – Davide knew so much and made every trip interesting. Cycling was very good overall – a couple of really good and challenging rides including stunning scenery though cycling days 3 and 4 could have been longer and more interesting ideally. A very nice group which gelled well.

Most Inspirational Moment

Davide as group leader and the cycling day 5 ride which was challenging (hills and rain) but immensely rewarding with some great scenery and a fabulous downhill S-bend section towards the end with stunning views towards the coast

Thoughts on Group Leader

As above - faultless

Advice for Potential Travellers

If you are thinking about an e-bike but not sure then do it - some hills are challenging and the bikes are top class. Snacks not provided and have to be bought so you might want to take some as a contingency

The trip was brilliant – wonderful scenery, good food, great company and an amazing guide

Most Inspirational Moment

The scenery was just magnificent. But importantly it was brought to life by our guide. The walks were great and allowed us to come off the beaten track.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Veriano was excellent - knowledgeable and passionate about the area. Sharing with us some of his special places made it even better. He really could not have been better.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Some of our group found the walking hard. While I think the trip was appropriately graded and the walk were not challenging it is important that anybody wanting to do the trip has a good basic level of fitness and has been walking recently.

Brilliant!

We enjoyed our week with Julian down in the Rodolpi Mountains, trekking the hills and meadows, on the lookout for the wildlife of the region. We loved it all. The landscape (sort of alpine-esque) is gentle in places and vigorous in others. Every day the walks took us to new areas and vistas. People have impressions of what Bulgaria is going to look and feel like and this week resets those expectations completely. We summoned up the energy to head to the hide a couple of times and loved it there – a real “in the moment” way to spend three hours. The hotel was welcoming and comfortable with ample delicious local specialties to fuel our efforts. Travelling in September we were surprised by how many flowers were still out, the butterflies and insects, the huge range of funghi, not to mention the very varied bird and mammal life of all sizes. There was the familiar, and the new, at every corner.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Julian was a highlight in his own right! He patiently dealt with our curiosity on everything from the bears to the political situation in Bulgaria and everything in between. With his fluent Bulgarian he took care of everything, my only decision to take was the daily choice of lunch sandwich filler. He managed different abilities in the group and as "informed" amateurs, he kept us brimming with facts and figures. Blagodarya Julian!

Advice for Potential Travellers

The terrain is quite varied, sometimes stable and level forest path, other times quite broken large stone paths, get some rigid shoes and walking sticks! Some of the days we set off up hill quite rapidly, to reach meadowtops, be ready for that but there's always a good gentle patch to catch your breath. Go with an open mind and a love for what's around and you'll not be disappointed.

Amazing & Beautiful

A much waited for trip to see everything I had always wanted to see and more, a brilliant small group that got on well from the start, and an amazing guide Ahmed!

Most Inspirational Moment

there are many the Tomb's of Nefertari, a visit to elephantine island to Animalia to see how the Nubian people lived and still do, seeing the gold mask of Tutankhamun was amazing and you can get really close to it. all the colours are stunning in all of the tombs at the valley of the kings and especially the valley of the queens which is deserted so go before more people realise its there!! Seeing all the places that I learnt about in school has finally been realised but I will need to go back as there is much more to see. The parties on M/S Esmeralda were memorable in many ways for the dancing and audience participation. cruising down the Nile seeing all the wildlife and watching all the children on the banks of the Nile waving back at us onboard an experience not to be forgotten.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Ahmed was amazing he entertained us all with making us all god, goddesses, Pharaohs & Queens to make explaining things easier and fun, nothing was too much trouble for Ahmed; he arranged a tour to the valley of the queens for me to see the Tomb's of Nefertari and Prince Amen Khopshef and arranged a boat transfer back to M/S Esmerelda. His love and passion for his country and his experience and knowledge cant be bettered and he is always willing to answer questions and explain things further over dinner and evenings after dinner as we all had many questions for him.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Go you will love it!!! be prepared for early starts to avoid as much of the heat as possible and avoiding the crowds but its all worth it.
