A fabulous trip with a great group. Top to tail of Egypt, seeing the sites with a great tour guide. History, culture and fun.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Sayeed Mansour was excellent - probably the best guide we have had on our Exodus trips. Inspirational, knowledgeable, relaxed, in control, entertaining, humorous, caring and patient. Sayeed became a trusted friend, making us feel safe and secure in for us strange surroundings. Sayeed guided us through the wealth of antiquities and monuments. He was sensitive to when we were flagging a little and provided a boost when it was needed. His explanations of what we were seeing and how it related to other places we had seen/would see meant that we learnt a lot. We understand better some of the political, cultural and economic challenges that Egypt has managed in the past and is facing in the future.

Advice for Potential Travellers

As always, read the trip notes. Take the advice on not buying Egyptian pounds before you leave - take US Dollars and Euros. Don't expect a good nights sleep on the train but do enjoy the experience. Come to terms with haggling early on. Be ready for "bakshish" (tipping) but good news - the tour guide has most of it covered with the team kitty.

Great Trip Through Vietnam

A great trip starting in Ho Chi Minh where the pace of life is very fast with scooters everywhere. Then cycling through the countryside up 6 mile hills and down 18 mile hills.The scenery is stunning. The locals are always pleased to see you with plenty of waves and hellos. Time to chill out at Whale Island where the snorkelling is excellent and time to chill out on the beach.The overnight train to Hanoi was an experience but with 4 women in the carriage and a bottle of wine the 12 hours went very quickly. The visit to Halong Bay was amazing the boat was very comfortable and food great. The highlight oif visiting Halong Bay was the kayaking and seeing the monkeys on the rocks. Finally to Hanoi and back to the faster pace of life.

Most Inspirational Moment

Snorkelling at Whale Island where the fish were amazing just like being in a fish tank. Hoi An for the colourful night market and great shopping having your shoes made to measure. The meal with a Vietnamese family at their home. Halong Bay for the scenery.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Linh Vo is an amazing leader who is very knowledgable about the history of Vietnam. He took us to places we would never have gone on our own. He went above and beyond what we would have expected of a tour leader and made us feel very safe. He is well organised and his cycling song made us all laugh.With 8 in our group he made us feel like one happy family. Linh and all his back up team were always helpful shepherding us through the traffic and supplying us with snacks and drinks and a big smile at all our stops.

Advice for Potential Travellers

This is a great trip if you like cycling. A certain amount of fitness is required but there is always the back up bus if needed.Take a raincoat and be prepaired to get wet although the rain is warm . Just enjoy the trip Vietnam is an incredible place.

An amazing trip

This was an absolutely wonderful trip to the most beautiful and amazing country. We saw turtles hatching, sloths, monkeys and a huge variety of other wildlife and birds – including the resplendent Quetzal and lots of hummingbirds. The flora was also spectacular and a feast for the eyes. I took so many photos I am still going through them.

Most Inspirational Moment

Watching the baby turtles emerging from their nest in the sand and scampering down the beach towards the sea. Getting up really early and climbing to see the Quetzals high above us. Visiting the sloths in the Sloth Sanctuary. In fact I enjoyed everything, even the rain.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Our group leader Johnny was an amazing guy. He was extremely knowledgeable about his country and was excellent at spotting both birds and animals. He was also very kind with a good sense of humour and was always willing to help each and every one of us to maximise our enjoyment of his fantastic country. Percy our driver was also excellent and was extremely helpful in making sure our luggage was where it should be.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Costa Rica is a very lush and beautiful country and is very green due to the heavy rainfall. Pack an umbrella and a waterproof ! Then just go and enjoy.

A Land of Diversity

Namibia did not disappoint, it is a land of diversity, deserts, small towns, nature, animals, friendly people. Although I dislike camping, it really was the only way to do it, it felt raw as if Namibia was outside my tent. Most of the campsites were okay. There were alot of early starts and long drives but it was the only way to get to places. The stops were interesting along the way.

Most Inspirational Moment

The first waterhole at Etosha Park. There were so many animals to see during the day, a herd of elephants with babies playing in the water giraffes, zebras, so many different types of unglazed. So many different types of birds. Both nights we were there black rhinos came down to drink one had a baby. Naturally during the day we saw more animals, highlight was seeing a pair of lions mating. Wonderful park with so many different areas to enjoy.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Ronny was a super leader. He always had a smile on his face, even when he was asked the same questions. He was very proud of his country and loved to show it. He was so knowledgeable on history of the country. He was able to spot so many different birds even while driving safely. He with his Assistant,Mr Happy organised the camp very well.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Take advantaged of the rest stops in hotels. Drink plenty of water walking sandals for the evening. Waterproofs if going in the rainy season. Take moizzie spray. Be prepared for anything. Take old clothes for most of the trip, pack a torch. Don't get stress at the airport in Ethiopia, as there is about 1 hr to catch tge connecting flight.

A fabulous trip … we’ll worth the wait

A fabulous cycling trip around the Los Lagos region of Chile & Argentina – gorgeous scenery, plenty of lakes, mountains, rivers, volcanoes, roads, gravel, dust, lava, monkey puzzle trees, sand, sunshine and a couple of border crossings.

Most Inspirational Moment

Difficult to single out a single moment, but cycling amongst volcanoes is something I don’t get to experience at home. The descent into St Martin de Los Andes was wonderful too, especially after all the hard work of the previous few days.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Diego, Karina and Mateus were all great. The group leader, Diego, was very friendly and helpful throughout, as were Karina and Mateus. Diego always stayed behind the group to ensure our safety, and was good company whenever I was at the back .. which was quite often!

Advice for Potential Travellers

The trip was rated moderate to challenging which was a fair rating. There was a lot of climbing but no more than expected based on the ride details in the trip notes. The gravel sections were more gruelling than I’d anticipated, and were quite long (in terms of time if not distance). Many of the early reviews refer to the gravel and now I can see why. However, even though I usually ride on roads rather than rough gravel, I’m so glad I didn’t let the gravel put me off. Yes, it was challenging, but the scenery was fabulous and I had a huge sense of satisfaction when I’d finished, so don’t let it out you off. Also, don’t worry unduly about day 3 … short in distance but lots of climbing. There are options, including being able to put the bike in the truck and walking up the steep bit, which meant I could do the whole day under my own steam.

Mt Toubkal Winter Climb

An amazing inspirational trip, to a beautiful country that had the madness of Marrakesh and the splendour of the Atlas Mountains with its serenity and views to die for. A trip that fed my soul and enabled me to meet the most amazing group of people.

Most Inspirational Moment

Wow this is tough, Obviously reaching the summit is definitely one of them and doing it with a group of people I had only met a few days before but quickly became firm friends with and we had a shared passion for the mountains. Being able to visit our guides home in Aroumd, being shown around the village and experiencing a traditional Hamas. The Berber people were so welcoming and there way of life and outlook are inspiring.

What to say about Lachen..... Such a wonderful person, it was an absolute pleasure to get to know him during the trip, I don't have a frame of reference as this was my first group trip like this. But at the airport he was so friendly and welcoming, he gave us some great pointers for venturing into the main square on the day I arrived. During the travel up to the mountains he was full of information and when we started walking he set a pace for the group that was comfortable. He talked to everyone in the group whilst we were walking and his knowledge of the area was amazing. On our trip to the summit of Toubkal he was aware of peoples abilities and along with his brother made the day at altitude one that I will remember for life. When I come back to the Atlas Mountains he needs to be my guide!

Stunning colourful country - Flora and fauna and fantastic cycling flat and hilly

I would echo the comments that the standout highlight of this trip is seeing the beautiful rural landscape. There is so much colour in the birds and plants. They are wonderfully seen from the bike but also the boat rides were superb The food was never bad. I would recommend salsa caribena fish and prawns. You will get bored of rice and beans for breakfast but small price to pay for enjoying this trip! Some of the lodges are quite basic but it’s fine. Many don’t have a hairdryer so if that’s important to you, bring one I found the pattern of cycling really good. Often after a tough hill day you get a good flat day to stretch out your legs. Some of the hills are definitely more than moderate, but you challenge yourself and if you really can’t do it you can get in the bus I recommend a larger day rucksack and a little one. Because there are occasions you are asked to do an evening and next morning without your suitcase Don’t bother bringing any fancy clothes, all very casual I loved the trip, the people, the guides. Go for it

Funny, experienced, very knowledgeable Great shame that he isn't doing subsequent ones for a while. He is a contractor and they are giving the trips to a perm. We met him because he came with the replacement bus. Seems fine but not so fun

Amazing Vietnam Adventure with Exodus

A very well organised and inspiring cycling adventure from Ho Chi Minh City to Hue, Reunification Express Train ride from Hue to Hanoi and visit of Halong Bay. The tour leader Chi Nguyen and his team (bus driver Jiao, van driver Ton and mechanic Y) were amazing.

Most Inspirational Moment

Climbing Hai Van Pass was tough and amazing at the same time. What an achievement. But Hoi An, Hue and cycling through the country side (rice fields, fishing villages and coffee plantations) were also highlights. Unfortunately the weather wasn’t good at Halong Bay, but it’s a stunning area (can get too busy though).

Thoughts on Group Leader

Chi was really fabulous. We’ve done many guided cycling rides with good tour leaders, but Chi really stood out. All round, social, funny, knowledgeable and brilliant with his team.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Opt for a ‘private’ bay on the train, not sure if Exodus can arrange that beforehand. We did it through Chi, on the trip. Two travellers had arranged an upgraded bay before the holiday. At this time of year (November) you really need to bring extra layers.

Overall a very good trip

This was a very well balanced trip, good cycling and we visited really good historical places of interest. We also enjoyed both the dead sea and the red sea, with enough time at each. Accommodation was good with the highlight of staying in Wadi Rum.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Mekhled was an excellent group leader. He organised the whole trip very well, everyone kept to a sometimes demanding schedule. He was knowledgeable and gave us a lot of information about historical sites culture etc. Extra things like lunchtime food was always well managed. The cycling team was also good, the leader set a comfortable pace and kept the group together, they were helpful with bike maintenance. Mekhled didn't ride a bike but was in a support van, this didn't matter much at all except at various times he'd say "it's down hill". The ride in total would be a descent but could be undulating and hard work at times, or have an uphill that you wouldn't feel in the van. The cycling team leader was better at knowing the route from a cycling perspective but tended to be quite quiet.

We went late November which seemed to be about right for weather/temperature.

Interresting cycling in a young democracy.

We had 12 very fine days cycling in South Africa. 10 englishmen abd three norwegains had a good time together. The guesthouse in Swellendamm was rather poor and should be avoided. We found the trip to be harder than grade 3, but the cycling was very good. The guides could have given more information about history and present political situation. The first cycling day we had transfers that could have been avoided and we could have stayed in Francehoek and startet from the same town next day.

Rochelle the first was super. Ernest was great too. Tallis took over for Rochelle and was OK, had a lot og knowledge about animals and birds, but not as interested as Rochelle was.
