Itinerary

  • Day 1

    Start Rhodes

Our trip starts in Rhodes with a briefing from our leader.

    Meals included: Dinner
  • Day 2

    Kayaking, snorkelling and beach time

Today is our first experience of the wonderful coastline of the island. We take to the seas in tandem sea kayaks. We drop in to some of the most renowned bays, explore the coastal caves  and of course take time out for snorkelling and swimming. Our lunch will be a picnic on the beach as we soak up the sun.

    Meals included: Breakfast Lunch Dinner
  • Day 3

Visit to a local equestrian centre

Having tried the sea, we now head inland to a family ranch in the Faliraki area, known as the Rhodes Riding club. Founded by a local in 1996, the club is now the main equestrian centre on Rhodes in a lovely natural setting away from the towns, with locals keeping their own horses here too and local children learning to ride. It also regularly hosts competitions and is a great day out for the family. We are shown round the ranch and meet our trusty steeds, before saddling up and heading out on a gentle hack through the surrounding countryside. We've designed this for the kids, however if any parents want to join in the ride they are welcome, though there is an extra charge (see extra expenses below).

Depending on how time is going we have a picnic lunch at the ranch or we make our way back to the hotel for lunch and some downtime. In the early evening, after dinner, there is the option to transfer (approx 40 mins) to Rhodes city and walk around the mediaeval Old Town, a UNESCO Heritage Monument City, with a local city guide. See extra expenses for local prices.

    Meals included: Breakfast Lunch Dinner
  • Day 4

    Visit to Ostrich Farm

This morning is free for a slower, more relaxed start, with time to enjoy the pool outside of the heat of the middle of the day. Our leader can also organise a few games and activities for the children if they're keen. After lunch in the hotel we depart at around 3pm to a local farm that is home to a host of animals including ostrich, donkeys, raccoon, porcupine, kangaroos and even boar! Farma Rhodes covers 32 square kilometres across a lush valley and offers an interactive treat for the children as they can get up close to the residents, learning about how they are cared for. Staff will take the children into the ostrich enclosure, and provide guidance and instruction on how to interact with and feed them. No doubt a few ostrich selfies will go down well with friends on their return home.

    Meals included: Breakfast Lunch Dinner
  • Day 5

    Profitas Ilias

The best views around are to be had from the mountains, so we take a transfer (about 45 minutes) take on Profitas Ilias, the 3rd highest peak on the island at just under 800m. The trail is gentle and mostly in shade. We'll stop for a picnic along the way and have put our Robin Hood skills to the test with some archery in the meadow near the top.

    Meals included: Breakfast Lunch Dinner
  • Day 6

    Tsambika Beach

Rhodes has many excellent beaches and this morning we spend time at one of these, namely Tsambika beach on the island's east coast. The area is very family-friendly with crystal clear shallow waters and a wide bay. It also offers a waterpark for children with inflatable climbing frames and slides. If anyone fancies a mid morning snooze we'll also have sunbeds at our disposal!
After the excitement of the beach we have time off in the afternoon to relax before dinner. After the meal those that wish can head out with the leader to the Astronomy Café. This novel idea allows you to grab a drink before looking  out at the stars through the professional telescope. The wonders of the universe never fail to inspire and excite.

    Meals included: Breakfast Lunch Dinner
  • Day 7

    Lindos

Those who decided to go to the astronomy café will enjoy the slower start to the day today. Lunch is taken in the hotel, with a lazy afternoon, with time to pack and start to gather our things. Then around 4.30pm as it gets a little cooler, we set off for Lindos to explore the narrow alleyways between whitewashed houses. There's time to head down to the beach and grab a gelato or explore the clifftop acropolis, with its 4th century gates. Equally, the  Castle of the Knights of St. John on the lower level is well worth a look. We then return to the hotel for our final night.

    Meals included: Breakfast Lunch Dinner
  • Day 8

    End Rhodes

    Our week ends in Rhodes.

    Meals included: Breakfast

The Greek Islands enjoy a Mediterranean climate of hot, sunny summers and mild winters.

Is this trip for you?

This trip is graded Level 2, leisurely/moderate. It is Designed for ages 5 to 8 but is also suitable for ages 9 to 12.
Our family activity levels are aimed at children in the primary or ‘Designed for’ age group. We are confident it is also suitable for those in the ‘Also for’ age range, however if your child is in this secondary category they may find it a little easier. Please see the family activity levels on our website for further information.

When grading our trips we consider multiple factors, the pace — how busy an itinerary is — and the level of activity involved. Then there’s the amount of time a family will spend travelling. The weather is an important factor too.

This trip aims to combine some fun, gentle activities with free time. The overall level of physical activity is not high, however each activity will take a few hours, and in the case of the walk up Profitas Ilias or the sea kayaking, will of course involve a bit of physical activity. We will however have breaks and maintain only a relaxed pace.

We stay at the same hotel all week, and have only short transfers to and from the activities. The heat of summer can of course be tiring, and so on some days we depart later to avoid being out for too long in the midday sun. Each day has an element of free time, meaning parents and children alike can rest and relax as needed and make the most of their stay on this beautiful island.
