Kilimanajaro & Zanzibar

Hi,

Booked Kilimanjaro followed by a relaxing few days in Zanzibar on the 22nd August 2010? Who else is in?

Yeps - I am also on this trip! I am actually feeling a bit nervous ( albeit massively excited!), I cant believe we are going in August...when I booked in Jan it seemed like a long way away...but really it isnt...I havent even bought hiking boots yet!

How are you doing for fitness/ training?

Hi Jasmine,

Did 26 miles in the Brecon Beacons four weeks ago and now have a problem with my knee - MRI scan on the 18th May !! Gutted at the moment and hoping it will be fine. Only time will tell!! When are you starting your training?

Luke apologies for late reply - I am sure  was supposed to get some email notification but alas not.

Hows the knee doing? I dislocated mine a few years ago so am going to have to be pretty careful but diong a lot of knee strengthening at the gym and will be wearing knee supports on both knees at ALL times!

Apart from gymming I havent dont any walks yet, got one (relatively easy South Downs) scheduled for June just to break in my boots and hoping to do another one in July and maybe August before we go at the end of the month. Looking at the kit list again makes me quite scared!

All I want is not to be someone with altitude sickness that doesnt make it to the top, will be gutted if that person is me!

Tell me about it, will be gutted if the altitude hits me.... gutted!! Knee is still playing me up, have to see how it goes.

Doing a bit in the gym, but cant wait!! Bring it on!

Hi Kevin,

Thanks for the feedback.

Did you pack a separate holdall/case to take to Zanzibar after the climb ? Obviously I’m not going to want my Zanzibar clothing while climbing Kilimanjaro. Can you leave it in the accommodation before heading up the mountain? Appreciate your advice on this.

Thanks

Luke

I'm also in for this trip, and exactly like one of you said I'm getiing a bit nervous. Keep trying to get fit and always something is in my way.. But hope all will be fine. And thinking about taking the pills too for the altitude.

Hi all

There is a lot of us 'Kili Trekers' on this site trying to contact others in they group. I've be in touch with most of you traveling to Kili in Aug, Sep and Oct. As there are a couple of us going to North wales to climb Snowdon on Sat 14 Aug, arriving the friday night and camping out. Sunday will look at Tryfan another lovely walk/climb. Therefore I would love to get as many Kili Trekers together to do some walking and talking. If you are insterested e-mail me on [email protected] I think it would be great to get everyone together and discuss 'Kili'

Hear from you Jim

And am asbolutely petrified...think I have got most of my gear, just last little bits to get together this weekend...

Hows everyone else doing?

And do we only meet each other once we get to Nairobi / Kili ? I guess tho with all of our Exodus bags it wont be that hard...

I cant believe it has come round so quickly!
