Gokyo Lakes and Everest Base Camp

Hi, my name's Katie and I have just booked this trip for Easter.  Anyone else out there either already booked on this trip or thinking about coming along?

That warning would have been more beneficial had it arrived this morning before I ate three of them!!

Katie, I will have to keep my stocks hidden away, the good news, most tea houses have them in stock if you run out.

You know those horrific stories of grizzly bears rampaging through campsites after the smell of food - a similar sight has been seen when i detect a mild whiff of chocolate!  My holidays start tomorrow and then the excitement, packing and sampling of even more energy bars can take place.  I did notice that next to the 260kcal bars with mars on the side, there was an attractive looking orange wrapper with double decker on it - hmm mmm!

Im going to go and get a load of nut bars and dried fruit, not going to splash out tho.

Now iv been thinking.. is anyone else taking an Ipod, il take a lead so we can share, do people have the local plug adaptors?

With regards to spending money; im thinking 200 pounds and 250 US dollars. If you dont mind me asking how much are other people taking?

I also finished working yesterday, going for my last long walk tomorrow, and picking my down jacket, down sleeping bag and head tourch up from treck hire uk tomorrow.

Iv had my first glimpses of the Khumbu valley! I looked a couple of times and it was just fuzzy dark, but now i realise that, that was either bad weather or night..

  Regards to all, Sam

Sam, may I suggest you read the trip notes regarding money. In the section "Food and Transport" they say please allow £25-£30 per day for food etc plus a tip for the guides at the end. A simple bit of maths shows you may be a bit short of dosh that's unless you are living on fruit and nut bars.

Katie, I assume the third passport photo for a Visa ? It's also useful to have a black pen in your hand lugage to fill in entry forms when you arrive at Kathmandu airport. Swim wear, a very nice hotel just round the corner from ours www.yakandyeti.com//home/index.php it's got a super swimming pool which was open to none residents when I was last in Kathmandu (seven years ago). The ideal place to chill out at the end of the holiday.

I'm taking £600 in sterling travellers cheques plus about £150 GBP.

You lucky lot, I don't finish until Wednesday lunchtime, then dash home to pick up my bags and up to the train station. Should arrive Heathrow 17:30, just keep your eyes open for Exodus bags but beware some may be on other treks.

Ah katie your a school teacher! I was either thinking your a student or a teacher. Look out for the youthfull traveller!

And I think il stretch to 500 pounds then, I went and brought rest of my kit today.. How much will this trip cost me..?!

Ah well can't wait.

Also we need to print off our insurance details off, and flight details.

Graham, thanks for the tips, that's helpful.

I'm glad of the opportunity to use up three old passport photos where I look like I've seen a ghost!

I finish work in london on Tuesday night, so just two more days to go. Hopefully we'll all manage to meet at the departure gate ...

Bought my snacks yesterday, ate them all today whilst cleaning the flat ready for my 3 week leave of absence - so guess I'll be going out to buy more snacks.  Thanks for the tip about the swimming pool, can imagine that will be really relaxing after the trek.  3 sleeps to go :)  Going into town tomorrow for last minute shopping - might have to buy a bigger memory card for my camera!

See you all Wednesday

I went and brought my snacks today, in a bid to save money I brought 56 bars varying from cerial bars to nut bars and half a kilo of dried fruit. (note to all, this is no excuse to buy less with the intention of stealing mine!)

I laid out all my kit today before packing and it stretches the lenghth of the entire upstairs corridor.

All I need now is bio-degradable soap. I just wonder wether all my kit will fit in the bag... this remains to be seen.

Nice one Sam - hope you can fit some warm clothes and stuff in as well ;-) See you all on weds - not long now!

Packed, unpacked, packed - still not enough room - so started eating my snack bars in the hope of being able to live off the extra fat reserves I've stored.  Away to get the scales now and see how heavy the bag is before unpacking - halving the number of clothes and starting again!  Got to get it sorted this evening - 2 more sleeps :)

Hi Katie et al, I am going on the trip that follows yours (depart on 20th) but just had a sneak at your groups chatter. given the amount of high cal snacks that are being taken..it doesnt sound as if we will come across any emaciated bodies left on the trail from your group !!– indeed I hope the Tea Houses are able to restock with goodies before we get to them!

I hope you have cracked the packing – I  keep looking at the small black bag and have a minor panics. I have got as fare as putting my down bag and jacket in  as a trial and they seem to take up about 80% of the bag!! Admittedly I have not compressed them to their limits but never the less I cannot believe I will get much more in … but there is so much more to ket in !! I think the two groups will be ‘passing ships’ but I hope all goes well and that the weather and altitude are kind to you all!  Have a wonderful trip and take it easy!Dave

Now iv don't think iv ever been to terminal 4 before, but its probably quite big. Is it likely that we will all bump into each other before we go? Im going to be checking peoples footwear very carefully as I surpose everyone will be wearing walking boots, so il ask people if they are exodus travellers. Any other thoughts?

khanson

On train heading back to Edinburgh after a very sunny day in Aberdeen!!  still not managed to crack the packing hell - will have to face that when I get home!!  Currently down to one change of clothes, sleeping bag and down jacket :-D

For people checking in at Heathrow I am assuming the black bag with exodus on the side will give you away!!  I'll be sitting in departures, not decided what to wear yet but am tempted ti wear my Howies t-shirt which states 'prozac helps'!!

Hope to meet up with everyone at Heathrow - Katie
