Discover Ethiopia

For someone like myself who is not too fit, it was hard going at times but all the serious walks were optional. I really appreciated the help I obtained going around the churches in Lalibela.

Ah but your land is beautiful

I admit that I wasn't entirely sure what to expect, although the Trip Notes and information on the Exodus website do prepare you for some of the differences between a western country and an African country, but these are truly of little concern once you experience the history and stunning scenery of this wonderful country. Arrival at Addis Ababa starts the culture shock and it takes time to adjust to a much less frenetic pace and lengthy queues to exit the airport. For me, the trip truly begins once you leave Addis, 'Lucy' notwithstanding! There are some long drives but these are tempered by the spectacular scenery and the many opportunities to stretch your legs and take shed loads of photographs! The history, rock hewn churches, waterfalls, magnificent mountains, cheeky gelada baboons, lakes and culture are individually impressive but in combination made this an awe inspiring trip.

The Discovery Ethiopia tour was a great introduction to Ethiopia history, culture, food and it's people. There were plenty of mountains to climb.

An amazing trip around a stunningly beautiful country, taking in the religious North and a dip into the Rift Valley in the South for the last two days.

5
Ethiopia well exceeded our already high expectations, and we had a really wonderful trip. This was helped by having a superb tour manager/guide in Gebre who really was the best guide we have ever had, in any of our travels to countries across the world. He was most professional and competent, remaining calm and dealing skilfully with whatever situation presented, ensuring that our comparatively large and diverse group all had a safe and enjoyable journey.

Green Hills faraway

We came prepared for a few hiccups and certainly the interminable immigration formalities at Addis and the snails pace drive to the hotel reflected these concerns but as soon we were entrusted to the excellent care of your guide Kibrom the hiccups subsided. The first afternoon in Addis was not all that inspiring - particularly the rather sad museum, but once we got to Bahatr Dar things got moving. Gonder and the the long drive to Debark and on to Axum was not something we would have wished to miss. Magnificent walk in mountains with which we could cope. What views of green and intensive cultivation. . Axum will be more presentable when the roads are finished but what stellae when you compare with celtic Brittany, although they are not the Queen of Sheba's vintage. Then to Lalibella which lived up to expectations. Other reviewers have been a bit dismissive of the final days in the south but we felt they complimented the north - we enjoyed the birds hippos and views of their agriculture particularly the amazing polythene greenhouses which have taken much of the flower trade from these islands.

An ancient land and culture with vast high altitude mountainous regions, beautiful lakes and lush green rural low lands. Travelled in October 2013.

Exodus Response

We are extremely pleased to read that Peter has some great memories from his trip last October. Since Peter travelled last year, we can confirm that the hotel he stayed at in Wendogenet is no longer used on this trip. We hope that future travellers will enjoy this trip as much as Peter did – Exodus Customer Services

Such a unique country because of its culture and history. We went on the Timkat Gondar departure followed by the Harar extension - which we would thoroughly recommend - like a foreign legion outpost + hyenas. Prepare for early starts and busy days. A bird watchers paradise.
