Land Only Itinerary

Day 1
Adventure starts in Voss

Begin your adventure in Voss, a lakeside town known for its long tradition of friluftsliv (Norway’s outdoor-focused way of life) and its position between the Hardangerfjord and Sognefjord.

Around 6pm, say hallo to your tour leader and fellow travellers, when we gather as a group for the first time to get to know each other and learn more about the adventures ahead.

Your tour leader then ensures a warm Norwegian welcome by arranging a group dinner.

Want more time in Voss, Bergen, or Oslo? Secure pre-tour hotel nights through your sales representative.

Meals included: Dinner

Day 2
Kayak the Hardangerfjord • Ascend Mount Hanguren by gondola
Norwegian Fjords Adventure

Ease into the adventure with a calm-water kayaking trip (two to three hours) on the Hardangerfjord (transfer: 30 minutes). With cliffs rising above and small farms lining the shore, the fjord has long been central to life here. Our local guide helps bring those stories to life, pointing out seabirds and explaining how people have used these waters for centuries. The activity is suitable for beginners, making it an ideal way to tune into the pace of western Norway.

After time for lunch in Voss, you trade paddles for altitude, riding the Hanguren gondola to the top of Mount Hanguren. In just nine minutes, we glide from the valley floor to the upper slopes, where walking paths branch out across the ridge.

From the top, walk back to Voss (6mi/9.5km) with the tour leader, which takes around 2hr 15min. If you feel like a more relaxing journey back down, you can take the gondola back down instead.

Meals included: Breakfast

Day 3
Explore Voss by e-mountain bike • Raft the Raundal River
Norwegian Fjords Adventure

Voss becomes our playground this morning as we head out on e-mountain bikes. These easy-to-use bikes help smooth the terrain, letting us ride over 2hr 30min through rugged trails, pristine forest, and the stunning mountain landscapes without needing elite fitness levels. Our expert bike guide leads the way, sharing favourite viewpoints and adjusting the pace to the group.

After, we transfer (20 minutes) to the clear waters of Raundal River for an exhilarating 1hr 30min ride through one of the most remarkable river landscapes in Norway. Skilled river guides join us on board, helping us to read the water as we paddle through wave trains and calmer stretches – an adventure suitable for beginners and experienced rafters alike.

Meals included: Breakfast

Day 4
Hike, zipline, cycle and travel the fjords by RIB boat
Norwegian Fjords Adventure

Travel to Myrdal by train this morning, a high-mountain station famed for its engineering history. From here, we walk (30 minutes) on the short gravel track to Vatnahalsen, where we clip into northern Europe’s longest zipline, flying 4,530ft (1,381m) to the small goat farm of Rallarosa in Kårdalen.

On arrival at the farm, we pause for a chance to sample their cheese before our two-hour bike ride (9mi/15km) down the beautiful Flåm Valley to Flåm.

From here, we switch to the water, taking a two-hour RIB ride along the Aurlandsfjord and into the narrow Nærøyfjord, surrounded by towering mountains. Along the way, we have excellent views of traditional farms and may even see grazing goats and basking seals.

Mooring at Gudvangen, we transfer (50 minutes) back to Voss.

Meals included: Breakfast

Day 5
Adventure ends in Voss

You’ve paddled on the Hardangerfjord, flown down the longest zipline in northern Europe, and travelled deep into UNESCO-listed fjords, but now it’s time to begin your return journey home. Your tour leader will arrange a group drop-off at the airport.

Alternatively, if you’d like to extend your adventure, speak to your sales representative to discuss our large range of extension options in Voss, Bergen, and Oslo.

Meals included: Breakfast

Ascents, descents and distances: All ascents, descents and distances listed in the daily itinerary have been measured by our local partners or tour leaders, in many cases with satellite-based mapping software. However, different GPS measuring devices can give differing results, particularly on winding paths or in mountainous terrain. Measurements stated throughout these Trips Notes are given to help you understand the types of terrain and distances you will encounter. Timings stated will vary depending on the pace of your group.

Practical Information

Visa

Norway

Travellers from the UK, US and EU normally do not need a visa to enter Norway. Please note, visa requirements often change and it is your responsibility to obtain any required visas for this trip. Therefore, we recommend that you check with the nearest embassy or consulate of your chosen destination(s), including any countries you may be transiting or transferring through.

Some local governments provide guidance on what visas their citizens need. To help, we’ve gathered a selection of useful links below.

Vaccinations and Health

Norway

There are no required vaccinations. However, you may want to consider vaccinations for tetanus, rabies (bat lyssavirus) and tick-borne encephalitis (TBE). Please confirm with your doctor or travel clinic.

If you’re a UK citizen, please note that your UK-issued European Health Insurance Cards (EHIC) are still valid and offer the same cover as the Global Health Insurance Cards (GHIC) in the EU. This gives you medical care at a reduced cost, and in some cases for free, in many European countries, but should not be considered a substitute for adequate insurance. Once your EHIC has expired, replace it with a GHIC.

Local Time

Norway's time zone: Europe/Oslo (UTC +01:00)

Norwegian Fjords Adventure

Money

Norway's currency: Norwegian krone (NOK)

ATM Availability

Norway is essentially a cashless society, so it’s best to bring debit/credit cards. If you would like to leave your tour leader a tip, this needs to be done in cash (Norwegian krone) – there are ATMs in Bergen and Voss.

Tipping

Although optional, a tip for the tour leader at the end of the trip is greatly appreciated. As a guideline, we recommend each person donates 290-350 kroner (US$29-US$35).

Sustainability and Impact

As a certified B Corp, we’re on a mission to improve our social and environmental impact across all our adventures.

We do this through our innovative Thriving Nature, Thriving People plan.

This ‘nature positive’ approach is designed to help nature and communities thrive in harmony through practical solutions, such as reducing carbon and waste on our trips, supporting conservation projects through the Exodus Adventure Travels Foundation, and rewilding 100 square metres for every Exodus traveller.

By booking this trip you agree to our Booking Conditions which clearly state that our leaders have the authority to do this. In these rare instances we will ensure anyone sitting out is safely provided for and offered alternative options where possible.
