Highlights of Northern India March 2018

Hi there! Anyone else booked for 30th March 2018 Highlights of Northern India? 5 of us travelling from Scotland.

Hi there,

My husband and I are on this trip, very much looking forward to going to it; it will be our first time to India! Have you been to India before? We land in India a day before the tour starts.

Mikaela

Hi Mikaela

None if us have been to India before! Very excited! There are 5 if us travelling together - Ann, Laura, Karen and I are travelling from Glasgow. Isobel is joining us from Amsterdam. We are also staying the day before.

Hi Wendy,

Thats amazing! Rob and I very much looking forward to meeting you all in March! Are you planning on heading out into Delhi after landing/checking into hotel?

Mikaela x

Hi Mikaela

We are getting an Emirates flight from Dubai that lands at 14.45 and staying in Hotel Blueberry. I’m sure we will want to do some sighseeing that day but haven’t organised anything yet.

We’re busy trying to organise Indian travel visas and inoculations at the moment. Have you done yours?

Wx

Hi Wendy,

We land at 9.45am direct from Heathrow and staying at Hotel Blueberry. Going to start looking into some sightseeing for the first day in the next couple of weeks, I don't think we get that much time in Delhi, I think we get a day on the way back.

Just started to look into our visas now, are you applying for an EVisa? Seems the eaisest thing to do. I think we are up to date with our jabs, thank goodness!

Mikaela x

Hi Mikaela

I have managed to successfully apply for evisa. It was a tricky form and needed some tech head scratching to get the photos the correct format and size. Good luck! Wx

Hi Mikaela

Has your hotel been changed to Hotel Florence? Wx

I think this is the trip I am booked on. I fly from Heathrow on Thursday 29th March at 8.45pm. I have my evisa ~ had to have help from some colleagues though ~ and have had my jabs....beginning to collect items from the kit list. I have never travelled (well four nights in New York 14 years ago!) so am feeling a bit apprehensive if I'm honest! If you've got any travel tips please let me know! Marion

Hi Marion!

We’re all getting quite excited now for the trip. Our wee group of 5 are meeting next Sunday to  decide on kit/money and shared packing , so if there’s anything we come up with I’ll let you know! Wx

Hi Wendy,

Sorry, for the delay! We have finally done our e visas (what a palaver with all the resizing!) - hopefully they will come back ok on Monday! Yes our hotel has also changed to Florence!!

Marion, thats very exciting! You will love the experience and everyone is always so friendly and like minded on these trips, I have done 2 of the Exodus trips on my own when my husband, Rob, was unable to come - and thoroughly enjoyed myself.

I would recommend to bring loo roll and antibac. Also for the overnight train, whilst the bedding is 'clean' I always pack a sleeping bag liner, so you feel more comfortable and also some wet wipes to freshen up with for the overnight journeys. Make sure you bring some snacks too - this will also be good for the bus journeys.

I am so excited for the trip now, 41 days to go!

Have a good day ladies! Happy Friday! :)

Mikaela

Thank you Wendy and thank you Mikaela ~ some really useful ideas! A friend is going to lend me a sleeping bag liner :-) What snacks can we bring? For me, snacks usually means nuts and dried fruit but I'm not sure I'm allowed to bring those with me....... still waiting for excitement to overcome apprehension but am greatly cheered by your experience of travelling with Exodus on your own Mikaela and it's nice to be in touch with others on the trip! Hope you both enjoy your weekend ~ have fun on Sunday, Wendy! Marion

Hi Marion,

I hope you are well and had a good weekend!

You can bring whatever snacks you want! Just check on the Indian customs website to make sure there are no restrictions on what you can bring. I am planning on bringing some cereal bars, rice cakes and some cough sweets. I usually add in some Percy Pigs and KitKats too as a treat! I will also probably bring peppermint tea bags.

Thank you! Peppermint tea bags sounds like a good idea too! Hope your week is going well :-) Marion

Hi Mikaela and Marion

How are you getting from the airport to the hotel?

Also - have you decided on pre/post tour Delhi sightseeing?

Wendyx

Hello Wendy.

I arrive and start the tour straight away so I just get picked up at Delhi Airport and put on the bus..... At the end of the tour, again, I'm not staying on beyond the tour itself. However, that hasn't stopped me making a list a mile long of places I want to go to in Delhi!!

Getting a bit close now....eek! :-O

The 4 of us who are UK based enjoyed a lovely pre-India lunch today - just 3 weeks on Wednesday for us! Wx

:-) How lovely! A pre-India lunch!

Although I don't feel remotely ready and am quite frankly in a state of panic about the whole thing, I AM looking forward to meeting you and Mikaela!

Three weeks!!!!! :-O

Hi Wendy, Marion,

Hope you are well. Oooooo not long to go now! :)

Wendy, I hope you had a good pre-India lunch, sounds fabulous!! We are having a transfer organsied by Exodus to the hotel, it is expensive but to be honest after a long flight we will just want to get to the hotel and not have the hassle of anything else!

We still can't decide what to do to be honest (but really don't want to waste the afternoon); we land at 10am so likely to be at the hotel by 12noon! Have you got anything lined up? We have a full day of site seeing in Delhi with the group at the end (even though this is at our own expense) and then a further day after the group leaves. I know as bare minimum we want to see the  Humayun's Tomb , the Red Fort, Qutub Minar and the Jama Masjid! Maybe we will explore the local area on the first day and then everything else? Its quite frustrating the orginal hotel they put us in was a lot closer to some sites in Delhi!

Don't panic Marion, you will be fine, I know its easily said, but Exodus look after you so well (as will the group).

Very much looking forward to meeting you both (and the rest if the group) in a few weeks time! :)

Have a good week! Happy Monday! :)

Mikaela

Hi Wendy,

I think Rob and I are going to try and visit the Humayun's Tomb and the Qutub Minar on the afternoon we land. Currently trying to find a driver for this! What are you plans for arrival? Maybe we could meet up for drinks in the evening?

The last day of the group tour which we have free to explore Delhi, I think we will try and organise to go and see the Red Fort, Jama Masjid, Gurudwara Sis Ganj Sahib and Raj Ghat, which is all in the same area and hopefully visit some bazaaes too. Hopefully the tour guide can organise something for us! Are you and your group staying on any longer Wendy or will you fly back on the same day as the others?

Mikaela x

Hi Mikaela

We are going to try to do some independent sight seeing on the afternoon/evening of arrival. Thought we would go by tuk tuk (?) to Red Fort area and markets.

We thought we would ask our Exodus guide for advice for the afternoon/evening of our return from tour.

We are then flying down to Kerala for Kochin/Kerala backwaters by houseboats and Kumarakom  Lake Resort. We fly home on 15th.

I’ll speak to the others about meeting up for a drink - sounds good! Wx

That sounds like a good plan Wendy!

Kerala/Kochin sounds fantastic, be a fab way to end the trip!
