THE AMALFI COAST

A fabulous holiday and very well organised.  The hotel was lovely, very clean and the food exceptional.  The walking was spectacular with stunning views.

Most Inspirational Moment

I loved all of the walking, expecially the trip to Mount Vesuvius.  Took the additional trip to walk the rim which was unbelievable.

Thoughts on Group Leader

The group leader, Albert, was very knowledgable and everything ran smoothly.  He briefed us each evening with the agenda, pick up times etc for the next day.  He had a great sense of humour and made the walks very enjoyable.  He knew some great places to eat and drink in Amalfi also.

Advice for Potential Travellers

For this particular holiday it is important to have a good pair of walking shoes.  Also a micro towel would be good to take as we end a few of the walks on the beach.  Saves taking a bulky beach towel with you on the walks.  Most of the walks are around 9k, so not too far but there is quite a lot of climbing up and walking down, so if you have troublesome knees some walking poles would be beneficial!

KERALA & TROPICAL INDIA

A great ‘holiday’! Although some would argue that a holiday is lying on a beach!!

Most Inspirational Moment

It is difficult to pinpoint any one inspirational moment, it was all good! Maybe seeing the Indian Ocean for the first time.  The houseboat was a lovely way to relax as well, with some stunning scenery. The landscape and people were fabulous - there always was something interesting to look at. Varkala was a great place to end on as well.

Thoughts on Group Leader

All of them were very good. Shibu was excellent company on the day I was ill (due to a massive cold, not 'Delhi Belly'! and both Saffi and Joseph were excellent cyclists. Joseph in particular was very kind and patient!

Advice for Potential Travellers

Be relatively fit....it is easy to think that this is a holiday, how tough can it be?...It wasn't that difficult and I don't cycle regularly, but I couldn't have done it without gym/spin sessions etc.  Even with that, I didn't bother cycling up Ooty Hill...gave it a go and then ended up walking, which was a slightly easier option! Be prepared to chat to people as you are cycling, especially motorcyclists...and the endless kids!

THE AMALFI COAST

A great walking holiday in a fantastic part of the work with great food!

Most Inspirational Moment

Most inspirational aspect of the holiay was just how much walking we did during the week.  Looking back it feels like I've been away for much longer.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Very experienced, patient.

Advice for Potential Travellers

There is alot of stairs!!!

What an adventure!

A fantastic experience, and a great way to see the country…and what a fascinating place!

Most Inspirational Moment

I'm not the best cyclist in the world, far from it. So I think, for me, I achieved a lot of cycling...which was very inspirational because I wanted to do more.

Thoughts on Group Leader

The group leader was fab! He certainly knew his stuff and was like a walk in encyclopaedia to Cuba!

Advice for Potential Travellers

Keep your eyes on everything! The roads can be quite uneven! Bring lots of antihistamines...the mosquitos certainly get ya! When you're cycling, all you need is a camera and a little bit of sun cream on you, you can leave your day pack on the coach because the coach is always with you. So just a little bum bag is sufficient. Museli bars....I brought some with me which were great for a little snack. You do get lots of fruit and snacks when you stop but I found a muesli bar a day gave me a bit more energy!

THE INCA TRAIL

Really good trip, well organised, guides were well informed, porters extremely helpful and we were really lucky with the group of people. Trekking was very demanding and normal altitude problems (headaches, loss of appetite) but no more than expected and no complaining by the group. Scenery was great, not much animal or bird life to mention but Inca ruins were stunning. Machu Picchu surpassed all expectations.

Most Inspirational Moment

Macchu Picchu surpassed all expectations. I could have spent much longer there.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Our group leader (Flamina) and the assistant leader (David) were excellent. Knowlegeable not just about Inca history and artefacts but also the local flora and other subjects. I was also impressed by the cooks and the porters. I couldn't do justice to the food, one of the effects of altitude is loss of appetite, but in very restricted conditions the cooks produced wholesome food which with limited tableware they made a real effort to present well.

Advice for Potential Travellers

The Inca Trail is physically very demanding, possibly the most demanding activity some peaople will ever do. The camping and toilet facilities are also basic. If you are prepared to accept a little (possibly a lot) of discomfort this is a very rewarding holiday.

MONT BLANC HIGHLIGHTS

This was an excellent trip for hikers who do not have 2 weeks to do the complete Tour de Mont Blanc.  The mountain views were fantastic.  The food was hearty home cooking.

Most Inspirational Moment

Seeing France, Switzerland, and Italy at the same time from a mountain top.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Oliver was a great guide who had excellent knowledge of the history and culture of the region.  I was very safety conscious and did a good job arranging for evacuation of a member of our party who became ill at a mountain top.  His jokes received mixed reviews but overall he was great in setting a positive mood to the trip.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Trekking poles are essential.

DISCOVER NAMIBIA

It wasn’t a particularly relaxing holiday but it was well worth all of the early starts and hours spent travelling as we had a wonderful time.

Most Inspirational Moment

Some of our highlights included seeing the massive seal colony at Cape Cross, walking to Deadvlei (hard going but beautiful), arriving at Etosha and spending hours and hours sitting at a waterhole watching many animals come and go.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Our guide was fantastic. He was friendly, helpful, informative and well-organised and really couldn't have done anything more for us.

Advice for Potential Travellers

My advice for potential travellers would be to expect to spend a lot of time covered in sand and to bring warm clothes, a very warm sleeping bag (if travelling in Winter) and a (head) torch.

WALKING IN TUSCANY

A very enjoyable week in a beautiful area of Tuscany, with very friendly group of fellow travellers.
The farmhouse is situated in a lovely location with great views across the valley. The walks are varied and challenging at times, especially in the heat of summer.

Most Inspirational Moment

Reaching the summit of Pania del Croce with the wonderful views from the ridge. Braccorti itself, do not think I would ever tire of the view from the pool. Lucca is also well worth a visit on the free day.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Liz was a really great leader, calm, professional, friendly, helpful and encouraging.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Walking poles are essential.

KILIMANJARO CLIMB - RONGAI ROUTE

From the minute I arrived in Tanzania, I felt looked after. The hotel stay was brilliant, the guides were awesome, the porters were fantastic, the food was amazing and reaching the summit was the cherry on the icing on the cake! I enjoyed every moment of this trip, it was well organised, with great communication and a fabulous support team! This was an unforgettable trip!

Most Inspirational Moment

There are so many parts of my trip that left me feeling inspired and humbled. The work of the porters to completely look after you and support you, the commitment of the guides to keep you safe and get you to the summit, the cooking on a mountain in Africa. The views and sunsets. The people of Africa. I loved it all and feel inspired by the whole trip.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Our group leader Makeke, was friendly, committed, knowledgeable, thorough and hardworking. He had an omnipresent ability, always there to support but never in your way or in your face. Just always there if you needed him. I will never forget his efforts to get us to the top of Africa, and the emotions he showed when we made it down too! A very nice man who worked very hard for the whole group.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Travel lightBe as fit as you can be, do some long long walksHave a good sleeping mat and bagMake sure your walking boots are v comfortable and well wornTake lots of baby wipesTake lots of small notes in your currencyKeep a positive mental attitude

KERALA & TROPICAL INDIA

This is a superb trip. We read all of the reviews on it before booking and they say it all. We’re going to do another similar one next year.

Most Inspirational Moment

So much of it. Seeing so many locals running out of their houses to greet us every mile of the way. We didn't see another westerner for 12 days. The food was varied, mostly good and fun. WE SAW A TIGER!!! Our guides didn't come on the safari and were dead jealous when we got back as they had never seen one. You really get to see India and its cultures...cycling around little back lanes with music piping out from churches & mosques. Held a snake. Stopped at lots of little 'coffee shops' (not exactly Costa Coffee so don't expect it) where we sat around with locals. Without exception every person we encountered was friendly and happy to see us.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Safi, Joe and Shebu were the key to the success of this tour. After day one they were like family...friendly, helpful, encouraging, sympathetic, empathetic, funny, the list could go on for ever. The quality of these guys can not be understated in their quest to make this a wonderful experience for us all.

Advice for Potential Travellers

We all got saddle sore (still take a gell saddle though) but after the first 2 km each day you just forgot about it. We also had varying degrees of stomach problems but again everyone just accepted it was part of India and it didn't really spoil the fun at all. Ours was the first trip in August and the weather was ideal for biking. Mostly around 30 degrees and occasional rain to cool you and have fun cycling through. The 14 of us in our group was made up of some late 20s, 30s, 40s and us 2 in our mid 50s. Although we are not cyclists and struggled on days 1 and 4, everyone was great and each had their day of triumph. It was not a race and it was not an ordeal...we walked (with 2 others) up Ooty Hill as we couldn't cycle it. The bikes went on the van. It took us 4 hours but it was okay and we were cheered when we got to the top.
