What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?
We came across an elephant, standing tall on a ridge near the bank, about 20m away. We paddled into the reeds and he came down to the water's edge and started to drink just at the back of our boats. It is impossible to describe the feeling being so near a creature so big - especially when you are at the water-level. He stayed there a while then moved back up the to the ridge - where he suddenly made a few steps backwards down the bank obviously intimidated by something. He raised his trunk and defensively moved away down the river bank. We then watched a pride of lions come out from the bush and we sat and stared eachother out... we then moved off to the safety of the other side of the channel.
This was just one of our experiences close up with nature - there were plenty more. The river is spectacular and the opportunities to see wildlife and experience life on the Zambezi just great.
