Hi Claire and Deborah

I have booked this trip to India on 14th Nov and can't wait to go! I have wanted to go for ages and decided that I can't wait for anyone else to be able to go with me so I have treated myself for my birthday - life's too short to keep putting things off.

Need to check vacs., malaria course, etc but this is all part of the build up!

This is my first solo trip but I am looking forward to it.

Hi Michele
Fantastic. It's really nice to hear from others going on the trip. So exciting:)
Is it your birthday on the trip? I definitely agree that life's too short to delay!

It's good that there's a few of us who haven't done a solo trip before. Always great to meet new people.

Kind of counting down the weeks now!

Hi. Sorry, I should have been clearer. I'm flying out on the 13th/14th so I get a day to relax before the trip starts so will be meeting you all on the 15th at the airport. As Michele asks, have you been on a trip like this before? It's great to see who's going before the trip starts:) C

I too am very excited about this trip, my first with Exodus but not my first solo trip. Claire, could we possibly be on the same flight as I'm also travelling on the 13th/14th? Cashed in some Tesco vouchers for some Virgin Air Miles:). Really looking forward to the 'full-on' experience and meeting new people.

hi all

yes its getting closer,i have most things in hand just have to wait to apply for visa near departure date as i am continuing on in india, and visa starts from date of issue not trip date, told its no problem but a bit scary, have bought a shoulder wallet,go 616 from amazon also fits round waist, seams good. told hard to find in india, now looking for camera with aa batteries any camera buffs out there,or any tips people like to share

Fri, 09/20/2013 - 22:46

Hi Hector
My friend bought the Nikon coolpix L810 when she went to Malawi. For obvious reasons she was looking for a camera that didn't need to be plugged into mains electricity for charging. It's a lovely camera and the results are very good.

...I also am getting a bit excited about seeing India, a first time for me.  Decided it was not a good idea to go by myself!

Forgot the necessity to get a Visa but found doing it through an agency for a fee well worth it.

Never been on a trip with Exodus and was thrilled to find they do solo trips. Have been on holiday ages ago with "Solos" that I still have fond memories of.

Sorry, sent last message before I had finished it!!

Getting close now, very excited; injections done, insurance done, malaria course ordered on internet, list almost ticked off for items needed - just in case! Going to get visa from India house in Manchester next week then almost done. Trying to decide clothes I need. Any advice?

Michelle, I was wondering the same. Was wondering if we'd need to cover shoulders etc? Hope the visa goes ok...I found the whole process online v complicated and wish I'd done as you did, Charlotte, and used an agency!
Angela, I'm flying with air India so think we may be on different airlines. Have you got an evening flight?
Are you all taking a backpack for the trip or going for a suitcase? Claire

I think we need to cover knees and shoulders so am going for cotton trousers and casual shirts and blouses and a fleece top for cool nights/mornings.  Going to try to be sensible when packing - I usually pack too much and don't wear everything!  I'm getting a soft travel case and taking a rucksack for carrying my day-to-day stuff.   It's like a military operation!!!!

Any tips from anyone else? Any must haves?  Michele

Hello
To think this time exactly a week ago I was struggling with my online visa application!
Having sent everything off late Monday, I have just received my passport complete with India visa enclosed:)
So impressed.
Claire, I am on the night flight so I hope I'll be able to get some sleep and arrive with minimal jet lag.
Getting my jabs Monday, so now feeling very excited about trip especially as I'm reading my way through the DK Guide to The Golden Triangle.
Re. luggage, I was going to take a medium size holdall on wheels and a day sack as thinking for the train journey, I'd like to keep certain items close to me.

Just a quick question to any of you who have got their visa - I was going to send mine in the post but am going to Manchester office on 15th Oct to do it - where did you get your photos done? I believe they have to be 2inch by 2 inch (larger than the passport ones). Max Spielman want £10 to do it!

Michele: I'm so excited too...kind of wishing away the weeks now! Still waiting for my final instructions so will be looking forward to that's...do they say what hotels we're staying at? Angela: yeah, I'm hoping for some sleep on the night flight too. Fingers crossed! Peter: good idea about the ear plugs and eye mask.
How much cash per day are you all budgeting for? Trying to work out what to take for trips, spending money, dinners etc.
looking forward to meeting you all. Claire

Not sure if of interest, but exodus told me we have 16 people in our group( so a busy one!), all from uk and between late 20s to 60s, so a great range of people:) Claire

Hi Claire

yes sounds like a good mixed group; should be a great trip!  I am also wondering how much to budget daily - we get breakfast every day and the trip notes say allow £13-15 a day for lunch and dinner at reasonable priced places plus any extras and pressies etc.  The first hotel in Jaipur is the Mahal Khandela Hotel- looks quite nice - I'm not expecting Hilton/Ritz luxury but it looks OK. As long as the beds are comfy and there is a good shower that's all I need! I've just got back from 2 days in London so am a bit shattered! Must have walked miles! Going to Krakow on 2nd November for 4 days so by the time I get back from India I think I may sleep for a week.  Can't wait to meet everyone.

Hi everyone, just checking in again.  Have so much to do before going away:)

Am not that excited yet, but am looking forward to the trip.

Met up with someone who has travelled to India many times. The one piece of advice he gave that has really sunk in is to be careful not to eat fresh fruit or veggies. Keep to cooked stuff.  I think I can pass on tummy troubles!

Thanx for the tips in regard to earplugs, padlocks, copies of all documents, budget for food each day.... The list is endless. I feel by the time I get to going on this trip I will need to recover from all the pre-planning!

I had my photos done at SnappyHappy. The on-line visa application is a bit of a nightmare (what occupation is your mother and father in!!!!).  But after printing and posting it off to the agency, and receiving it back+visa I will now stop complaining.

Modest dress is most likely the best way to go (in my opinion) as Indian society seems very conservative and women there do not, from what I have gleaned, have the same freedom/rights we have here. British men would not bat an eyelid with half the stuff women wear in the summer but these same clothes in India could be interpreted as very suggestive.

Bananas were recommended as they have skins on and therefore the gems are kept on the outside. Will also bring a small fruit knife but suppose not a good idea to have it in my hand luggage:)

Hi everyone on the highlights of Northern India trip.  Just over a week to go! Very excited but a little bit nervous as well!!!!

Very busy in the next few days - got to get a bike chain and lock for luggage on the train, decide what I am taking - need to be minimalist with packing which I find difficult as I always pack too much. Just got back today from 3 busy days in Krakow, in work Thursday/Friday, driving to Oxford and back this weekend - think I should have booked a more relaxing holiday to recover but hey-ho I can catch up on my sleep later - maybe early next year????

Can't wait to meet everyone; I am sure we will have a great time.

See you all next week.

Michele.

.... Yes Michele, I am also finding it difficult being minimalistic with the packing!  Just can't subject myself to lugging around a huge case and I am sure there will be opportunities to buy some bits and bobs which all adds up.  I envy folk who just sling a smallish rucksack over their shoulder and that's that:)

Good Afternoon Everyone

So excited ... shall be packing my bag this weekend so that I can be sure I have everything.  Been stressing a bit about what clothes to take as I was speaking to some friends who said it was cold when they went last year but it was Christmas time.

Claire, are you booked into the Hotel Swati Deluxe for the night of the 14th?  Not sure what time your flight arrives but I'll be taken to the hotel early afternoon so I have the afternoon and evening available for some exploring if you'd like to join me?

Looking forward to meeting everyone else at the airport on the 15th.

See ya.
