Hi. I saw your entry a few days ago but hadn't signed in so couldn't reply.   I have also been planning for the trip and have been reading up about some of the places we are visiting and checking out on the internet what birds, plants and animals we might see on the way.   My wife likes more sedate holidays but was happy for me to go either with friends or on a group trip.   On the planning front I'm struggling with the thought of packing my rather bulky sleeping bag for the one night in the desert.  I've put out an enquiry about hiring something for the night.   I know some companies ask for a sheet sleeping bag and provide blankets.  I look forward to meeting you and our fellow travellers.

Some groups going after us have 16 messages.   Do you think we might be an elite group of two??

Hi Graham,

Thanks for your response-I emailed Exodus, and it looks like we are an elite group of 9 :) (I will be part of those in their mid 20s-ish)- see you in Morocco!

"I would say that 1/3 of the group is composed by females in their mid-20’s, while the rest of the group goes from the 50’s to 60’s with a prevalence of males on females."

May I join your elite group of 2? I am another of the "females in their mid-20's"!

I was also wondering about the sleeping bag, have you heard anything? If we can't hire them I will borrow one from a friend before we leave.

Looking forward to meeting you. I'm off to see if I can find a guidebook to read up before we go.

Hi Rhiannon.   Welcome to the elite group.

I sent off an enquiry to Exodus about the sleeping bag and another about baggage allowance.  The allowance came back very quickly but the *look into the sleeping bag" bit still hasn't got a response.   I will let you know if it does.

The best guide book I found was the DK Eyewitness Guide and I got it for 99p off the internet.

I'm in the "mainly male 60's group."

Hi Rhiannon!

I've got a Rough Guide to  Morocco which I'm finding pretty helpful-wondering if it might be worth buying some maps as well though? What flights are you both on? Have you booked them with Exodus?

Not long now-exiting!

I've booked the flight to Casablanca through Exodus but have to get to Heathrow from Manchester.  I'm flying BA and hopefully get to Heathrow about 3h 50mins before the flight.  However, I've got to transfer between terminals after collecting luggage which a friend said took 1hr 45mins.   If you see a red-faces bloke running with a case it will probably be me!!!

I am booked on this trip.  I was wondering if anyone else was going.    I booked the flight with Exodus , flying from Heathrow.  I am driving down from Cheshire  to save the hassle of transferring between terminals - I will see if it is any better !  I think the best way of transferring between terminal 5 and 4 is the free train service.  I used the bus one time , it seemed to take ages.

I have bought a marmot wave 3 sleeping bag - 3 season bag which was on special offer from Cotswold Outdoor .  I have yet to see whether bag and clothes will fit in the case. If not I have got straps to carry it with my rucksack as hand luggage.  It packs down small and only weighs 2 Kg.

Look forward to meeting you all

There was a FAQ where someone asked the question whether a sleeping bag was necessary for one night  the reply was yes.

I also asked Exodus whether a 3 season bag was sufficient given that the trip notes stated a 4 season .      I had the reply that a since it was the end of March a 3 season bag was good enough.

The difference being about £50 for a 3 season bag and £250 for a 4 season bag.

There was no mention of bags being available for hire.

Hi Colin

The elite group has finally expanded.   Welcome aboard.   I wish I had known someone from Cheshire was driving down as I would have been happy to share transport costs.   I'm a little anxious about missing the Heathrow connection as the other year I was making a similar connection to go to Mexico and the following day after my departure snow grounded the Manchester plane.   I am watching the long range weather forecast with a certain amount of trepidation.

My 3 season sleeping back will have to do.  I do carry a fair amount of personal insulation!!

Look forward to meeting you on the 17th.

Hi Graham,

good to hear from you. I caught the shuttle last year to go the Sri Lanka, it was fine. I just thought I would try a change.  I am staying in London on the way back anyway.   I still worry about the whether the car is going to break down or something.  I book holidays months before and forget about the snow .  March should be fine.  I tried out my 3 season bag - it was sweltering !  How cold is it going to be !

Hi Colin

Finally chickened out with the 3 hour gap to change terminals etc at Heathrow and booked an earlier flight.  Should now have 5 hours - enough to go into London and do a few museums!!!   Possibly a book would be best.

I haven't used my sleeping bag for years but I can't remember ever being cold.

Hi everyone.

I'm Paul and I'll be coming up by train from Southwick near Brighton to join the trip at Heathrow. I hope there's no engineering works!

Thanks Laura for the information on the group.

I'm a 50-something! Haven't done anything like this trip since going on Interail as a student! I'm really looking forward to it.

I'm guessing you've got your sleeping bags by now. I went for a  Snugpak Softie Chrysalis 4 from Hill and Dale Outdoors.

Anyone else travelling from my area?

Hi All

Just at a look at weather forecast for various places in Morocco and starting with cool and wet today it gets drier and a lot warmer everyday this week reaching upper 20's to low 30's by Saturday.  3 seasons sleeping bags looking more adequate by the day!!

Hello everyone.

Just in case other people are on the same flight, I'm on the 17.10 out of Heathrow today and will be wearing a large leather sunhat so should be recognisable!

See you all later.
