Hi there fellow trekkers. I have been wanting to climb Kili for about 4 years now and have persuaded my old pal Alan to do this trip. Get in touch via this forum and exchange tips and knowledge.

The best tip I have heard so far from someone who climbed Kili a few years ago was "take a wide-mouthed bottle to pee in". It's too cold to venture out of the tent in the wee small hours (pun intended). Can't wait 181 days and counting....

Hi Spike

I traveled kili in 2006, pics are here http://www.exodus.co.uk/photos/album/1595

Why deneigh yourself the experience of waking up in the early hours of the morning on Mwenzi tarn, climbing out of your tent in the pitch dark and walking in somewhat the right direction to a wooden enclosure with a hole in the ground. Tourch in one hand, loo role in the other, hoping your aim is right. Making the journey back to your tent is interesting as they all look the same, and, how close is that Jackal you can hear in the background. Have fun, I did.

... and not feeling totally organised yet, but we'll get there. Over the last year we've climbed hills in the Lakes and Snowdonia and done some running - so hopefully we're as fit as we can be for the trip. We'll do our best to cope with the altitude. We've seen the exodus slide shows and now we're looking forward to meeting our fellow travellers very soon.

Well I think the minimum number to make the trip viable was 8, so between us we could be up to 50%! Last time I looked there was still some availability which I think  means there will be less than 16. However many we are, I am sure we will have an exciting and memorable trip.

Well done for getting organised on the sponsorship and good luck with the target.  I've been asked a few times if I am doing the climb for a charity - decided against it as I feel I've asked for a lot of sponsorship support in the last few years for Great North Run. Done it 4 times for Martin House (Yorkshire childrens' hospice) - every time ending with the words never again. Which will probably be my penultimate words on Kili - I usually move on fairly quickly to when we do it again...
