Highlights of Italy

An excellent way to get a taste of Italy

4
What a fantastic way to see some of the highlights of Italy! The accommodation was more than adequate throughout the trip, particularly surprising were the size of the rooms in the hotels we stayed in while in the main cities as i had expected little more than a shoe box, I was surprised to see another reviewer liken them to hostels as that was not my perception at all. The food was absolutely wonderful everywhere that we went and not nearly as expensive as I had imagined, mainly i think because our guide cleverly took us to places off the main squares/streets and advised us to order at the bar as it is cheaper than waiter service. Like any city break style holiday there was a lot of walking involved and the limited time in each major city meant we covered a lot of ground in a short space of time, because of this i would say this is a reasonably fast paced tour unless you just want to sit in a cafe and watch the world go by. The Cinque Terre walk was beautiful but fairly demanding due to the easier coastal paths having been closed for a number of years due to unsafe ground, however there is also a train which runs between each village that was very simple to navigate and included in your entrance ticket. My least enjoyable days were in Naples at the end of the tour. It was the one place where I didn't feel particularly safe and it is quite a grubby city. Definitely watch out for the pickpockets there!

Cycling in Albania

Cycle Albania

A quite outstanding trip that packed so much into a week. The route combines sleepy agricultural areas, grand mountains and spectacular coastline. Varied scenery combined with some excellent places to stop overnight and a couple of interesting sightseeing stops to enjoy aspects of Albania's history in Gjirokaster and Butrint. Inexpensive. Some demanding cycling on excellent bikes.

Discover Costa Rica

A comprehensive trip including many special places in Costa Rica. The leader and group of 16 were both excellent. If you don't like birds and slow walks through rainforest spotting plentiful, but elusive wildlife, then this holiday is not for you. While the trip is rated as leisurely, day 1 started at 6am in an effort to beat the traffic in San Jose. We however saw 2 three toed sloths at the place we had breakfast on the way to Tortugero. Its a busy holiday with 2 nights in most places but generally starts were before 9am. If you want to see wildlife you need to look at the best times early morning or evening

Cuba: La Isla Grande

A very comprehensive trip covering most of the key places except Vinales. There are lots of long days in the bus as the trip covers a large part of Cuba. Roads are not fast and there are many slow vehicles, bicycles, horse drawn vehicles in the country. The people are the real highlight. Despite the difficulties they experience on a daily basis, they seem resilient and cheerful and are welcoming to tourists.

Galapagos Wildlife Cruise

Non stop wildlife experience with so many different islands that it felt much more than just too weeks. Lovely breaks cruising between the islands relaxing in the warm sea breeze. Very helpful friendly passengers and crew. Great food. Snorkelling is a must. Essential to have a small boat 16 max to enjoy the islands in peace. The Western Islands were quieter than the eastern Islands. A trip to be repeated!!!

Fabulous holiday with spectacular vistas every day, just the right side of challenging with the added luxury of returning to the hotel to partake of the spa facilities before settling down to the 5 course dinner. Learnt so much about the area and its history from the very friendly and knowledgable guide. Each days walking gave a new prepective of the area with differing terrain and amazing views. The hotel was excellent with good facilities and very friendly helful staff nothing was too much trouble would definately reccomend the trip to anyone who enjoys the great outdoors and a little luxury

Nice holiday, with reservations

Overall I enjoyed the holiday, despite the storms and getting soaked a few times! However, I found the hotel to be disappointing. It caters for large coach groups. The food on offer at breakfast was poor, tinned fruit for example. We bought amazing strawberries from the shop around the corner and took them in to breakfast. Apart from Danny our waiter & barman who was rushed off his feet, staff at the hotel were impersonal and there was none of the nice little touches that makes the Amalfi holiday so special. I found the trip notes not to be very accurate, there are some steep ascents and descents on the walks which felt more than 'leisurely'. The suggestions on the trip notes for the free day are poor, the castle at Simone is too far to get to. The towns of Garda and Rovereto are worth a mention. The hill from the lake to the hotel really is long and steep.
