A classic walk. I have travelled on several other Exodus trips to the Alps and this trip undoubtedly offers the best Alpine panoramas. In fact, some of the best mountain scenery I have seen anywhere ...

A great walk, in great weather, with a great bunch of people and a great guide... what's not to like!

CHAMONIX SNOWSHOE

Chamonix a lovely area which had visited many times before including Chalet Savoy some 9 years previous, the accomodation and food were both excellent and of the highest quality. But the major let down was the technical, physical and duration of the walking which was advertised as grade "C" but was is reallity only "A/B" grade at best which let some what "sour taste" to the week.

Exodus Response

As Mr Bottomley mentions we have already replied directly to his concerns. We are confident that the walks on this trip are set at a suitable level and that Oliver enables the walks to be enjoyable whilst ensuring the safety of all in the group. From reviewing all feedback we are confident that the grade C weeks offer the correct amount of difficulty and that Oliver is suitable to lead these weeks (see Jan 2011 review by Gerard Neilan that reflects this). Oliver himself has climbed Mont Blanc Solo, regularly trains Cross-country ski racing with members of the British army team and holds the International Mountain Leader qualification plus three ISIA badges (International Ski Instructor Association) - Austria, USA and Britain. All the above qualifications are regularly re-evaluated and Oliver is more than qualified and capable for leading this week. He also leads 17 of our Mont Blanc Highlights trip back to back throughout the summer. Obviously in winter conditions leaders do have to follow increased safety measures and we would expect and require no less than this. As with any group snowshoeing holiday the leader can only go as fast as the overall group can manage. On Mr. Bottomley’s week some of the group would have struggled with a faster pace. To quote from his wife’s four star review: “snow shoeing is quite hard work”. On these pages there are reviews from other clients, please again see comments from his wife Mrs Bottomley who says 'Oliver is great - full of knowledge about the area. He always knew the best places to go for the best conditions'. We are passionate about providing the best quality of trips and customer service possible. As you will see from the comments many of our clients have been very happy with this holiday and wholeheartedly recommend it.

CARPATHIAN CULTURE AND WILDLIFE

As with my previous Exodus holiday in the Rhodopi Mountains of Bulgaria, this was a good holiday made even better by the excellence of the guide every day and the high standard of the accommodation allied to the knowledge, passion for conservation and helpfulness of our hostess. Despite the unusually wet weather we still got out and about to see some of the special natural and built wonders of the area.

CLASSIC DOLOMITES

The trip was brilliant - non-stop action from morning til night with not one drop of rain.  The hotel was excellent - fantastic breakfasts, picnic lunches and four course evening meals - even though it was opposite the church whose bells struck EVERY quarter, half and full hour ALL THROUGH THE NIGHT! We managed to drag ourselves to the wellness centre - pool, steam room, sauna, herbal shower - 3 of the nights in preference to having a pre-dinner beer in the bar.

CARPATHIAN CULTURE AND WILDLIFE

Carpathian Culture and Wildlife (May 2011) is a wonderful mix of visiting ridgetop villages and farms in the Transylvanian mountains, hikes up into the forests and pastures, nibbling on delicious fresh cheese at a shepherd's hut, and visits to other local highlights such as the lovely medieval architecture of Brasov and the castle known as Dracula's Castle which is surprisingly charming and lovely.

MONT BLANC HOTEL TREK

For anyone interested in serious walking/trekking, the Tour du Mont Blanc is, indeed, a classic and should be on your list. It is full of variety, contrasts, lovely places to stay and Exodus does it very well.
