Average holiday only!

I booked this holiday with the thought there would be 5-7 hours of walking and this would be less than I normally walk, which I was quite happy with. However, this is not the case and it is the day length which is 5-7 hours maximum. Although the guide is enthusiastic about the island (and it is beautiful) there were far too many stops to impart local knowledge / history for my taste, with some stops lasting well over 20 minutes and not coordinated with lunch for example. If you are en experienced and fit walker capable of easily walking anything up to 18-19 miles i.e. constant 9 hour walking days then this probably isn't the right holiday for you.

Exodus Response

We would like to thank Helen for her comments, although we are sorry that the walking wasn’t as challenging as she had hoped. Having reviewed the duration and distance of the walks we are confident that they are consistent with the moderate classification of this trip, but when the itinerary is reviewed at the end of the season we will certainly take Helen’s feedback into consideration.

MOUNTAINS & VILLAGES OF EVIA

One of the best group walking holidays I have been on, and excellent value for money.

MOUNTAINS & VILLAGES OF EVIA

What a great way to get away from the Christmas craziness, remain occupied, and learn a lot about the history of Evia and Greek culture. Evia is gorgeous and our hikes were the perfect amount of challenge. Thanos knows so much history and is happy to share it. My advice would be to just go with the flow, trust that he knows what he is doing and not press too hard for information about what's next. It is nice that we frequented independent businesses and had nice breaks between the hikes and dinner.

MOUNTAINS & VILLAGES OF EVIA

I have never been on an organised group holiday trip before, but have travelled independently regularly, so it was with some trepidation that I joined the trip to Evia. I need not have worried- the company was fantastic and having a knowledgable guide brought the walking experience alive in a way that I would never have acheived travelling by myself.

MOUNTAINS & VILLAGES OF EVIA

A great holiday, with a very pleasant group, a brilliant leader, good walking in attractive scenery, and based at a simple friendly family hotel.

MOUNTAINS & VILLAGES OF EVIA

I didn't know quite what to expect never having been on an organised trip before and being a bit of a loner. However the holiday was amazing. Not only was the walking good, although I might have liked something a bit more strenuous, but the accommodation was just right with lovely views from our balcony room and our guide was wonderful, providing history and stories to enlarge our visual experiences. All in all it was a most satisfactory holiday which I am still thinking about long after my return. Thank you Exodus,

MOUNTAINS & VILLAGES OF EVIA

If you're planning to take a walking holiday do not choose this trip which is little more than a glorified site-seeing tour. The holiday might have been better had the usual local organiser been our tour guide

We are really sorry that John was disappointed with his trip. This departure was the first and only time this tour leader has been used as Thanos usually leads this tour and, as John mentions, Thanos receives fantastic feedback. We still use taxis, but since this review was posted we have updated our safety standards and working seat belts are now provided in all vehicles.

MOUNTAINS & VILLAGES OF EVIA

I would happily do this holiday again!  I loved the greekness of Karyistos.  It's a working town not a tourist one.  The hotel sits on the harbour front where you can see the fishing boats preparing to go out to sea in the morning.  And in the evening you can eat wonderful fresh fish and drink cool greek wine in one of the lovely tavernas either on the harbour front itself or, our favourite, in the 'little alley' near the town square.  Each of the walks was unique, surprising and inspiring.
