I've done a number of these cycling trips and this was way 'up' there compared with some of the others - all of which have been fabulous. It was fairly challenging in that it was hot and a number of roads were 'under construction'. I almost didn't go, being recently diagnosed with a condition but am so glad I still went ahead. It helped knowing that the van was behind, just in case.
The trip was brilliant; the mixture of cycling and cultural activities showed us the country from a whole other aspect, which many tourists probably don't get to see. The trip was packed full of activities which fitted around the cycling very well. Integrating into a group was also really fun and we became a strong team after 2 weeks; lovely people. The highlight was our guide, Suresh, and the special efforts he made to make our trip memorable.
As I am getting older these sort of adventure trips are more important to me than one can imagine because the time will come soon where I will act my age.Having started the trip on a disastrous note where I fell very ill on the plane trip to Sri Lanka.Combination of a virus and my medication[inappropriate medication for the trip/climate]the big tip is check with your local doctor before embarking on said trip.I thus missed a couple of days cycling and wasnt as strong re cycling as usual. The trip went like clockwork from the beginning to the end and the group jelled really well .As luck would have it we had a doctor and a nurse within the group [lucky me]The trip staff were excellent and food was great and the country worth the effort to see The locals were tremendous and never saw a cross word to anyone anywhere,a serene country.
This was my first cycle tour and I am sure to look at doing others!!
So that's a great start.
Exodus and the team on the ground performed well up to expectations.
I loved riding the back roads even the bumpy ones especially with the hundreds of smiles and waves from locals we received most days.
I didn't like the various roads "under construction" which obviously is unavoidable but dusty and not much fun - a bit of an endurance test. It is not always possible to go on " Back roads" so this happens.
I felt safe 99% of the time unless a red local bus was passing nearby they were worse than Tuk Tuks.
I loved the food and fruit - fantastic its best to like curries and vegetables.
I loved the achievement of our day climbing to Nurawa Eliya, really tough ,such variable climatic conditions but made it.
To finish that day at a retro Plantation owners hotel was really quirky.
Our support team and leader made us feel respected and encouraged and they were always ready to assist in any way - fantastic.
This is a trip with some tough days, but worth the struggle to have the food the landscape and the overall experience which was positive.
For the whole 650 km, I felt sorry for visitors in Sri Lanka stuck on tour busses. Yes, there were some challenging and tough days due to certain road conditions, weather, climbs, and distances but the beautiful people and the magnificent scenery made it easy to forget any discomfort.
I had a really great holiday cycling the backroads of Sri Lanka. There was a lot of variety on the trip and some very interesting cycling through lots of small non touristy villages. The country is very beautiful and have lots to offer so I enjoy it all very much even though the cycling in the heat was very challenging at times. However we did have a bit of a heat way when I went so the temperature was way over average.
This was our 3rd Exodus trip and it exceeded all of our expectations I really do not think that any other trip would ever top the two weeks that we had in Sri Lanka. The Sri Lankan people are friendly and smiley, the countryside breathtaking and the wildlife is amazing.
An interesting and varied trip with great leader & support crew. Friendly people, lots of Buddha’s, interesting flora and fauna and some spectacular scenery. Hot and humid initially but cooled a little as we hit the hills. Cycling was challenging for some but everyone cycled every day with a few personal firsts achieved.
This has to be one of the most enjoyable Exodus cycle tours I have taken and I have taken a few! I love the Indian sub continent for its people, food, culture and colour and Sri Lanka did not disapoint. What made it stand out was the group of very special people that I enjoyed it with and the most caring and attentive staff you can imagine.
