Kayaking on the Turquoise Coast

Turquiose blue seas....

A nice week exploring the coast of South West Turkey. Personally I found the kayaking harder than I had anticipated, despite being a fit, sporty and active person (I've climbed Kili, run marathons and regularly play sport in my spare time). Unfortunately this led to me not enjoying the kayaking aspect of the trip. I feel this was not aided by the small group size of just two of us. With both the tour leader and other person on the trip being (dare I say it stronger) males, I was always at the back. A bigger group would have meant that this was probably not the case and given me more confidence. This being said, the scenery was stunning, people friendly, hotels good and made for a pleasant trip away from the grindstone of work in the UK!

Exodus Response

We are glad that Michelle found her tour leader to be excellent, but we regret that she was left disappointed at being part of a small group. Whilst it is unusual for our groups to run with low numbers, where possible we endeavour to let our clients know in advance if they are travelling in a small group; we are sorry, however, that Michelle would have preferred this trip to have run at a fuller capacity on this occasion.

I enjoyed the trip very much, because of the great landscape and the nice people that came along. I do believe that there is some room for improvement.

Exodus Response

We would like to thank Ute for her review. Whilst we are very glad that Ute enjoyed her trip, we have discussed the concerns she has raised with our local manager to ensure that our expected standards are being met. We continually monitor feedback and improve our trips based on client feedback so we are confident that this will prevent similar disappointments from recurring.

This was my first Exodus trip and it lived more than up to my expectation. I was with a great group of people which made the trip such a memorable one. My kayaking experience was limited but the guides were great instructors and had an awesome experience.

Travelled from Gatwick to Dalaman, Picked up outside airport (cash machine just outside airport) by Exodus rep and taken to KAS. (2+hours but with a lovely stop off half way) Hotel Oreo is fine (for Turkey) pool, AC in room, wifi, great staff (English so so - better that my Turkish!) Welcome bar-b-que was very good and set the standard for the week. Rep/guide was ours for the week and kept us upto date at all times. Kas is lovely, go explore the back streets, well worth the effort, food choices if fantastic, prices are low. Kayaking is hard work! Kayaks are touring type and stable but you can fall out! take dry bay, gloves, hat sun cream, and long sleeves - no shade in a kayak! Included meals are great, If you pay its around 30lira for a meal plus drinks, almost OD'd on fish - it's really good! After day two you'll be Kayak shaped and it gets much easier, gloves can come off!? expect to see Turtles day 3 onward, The move to the pension at Kekova is short and the Pension is great, massive rooms with AC and wifi, in a really small village, just lovely and peaceful, it has around 10 restaurants (all sell the same!) and the best bit is the paddling there, sheltered and beautiful. Lots of Turtles, fish squid etc. Take a mask and snorklel!! The Guides are great but listen to the advice especially getting into and out of the kayaks. We had a guy who didn't use his paddle to support the boat, fell on to a rock with his ribs (ouch) totally unnecessary. Both days at end of week are fantastic., early 3 are very good but, you know what I mean. Turkish bath and para gliding both recommended, if your male to the berber for a hair cut and shave! A great experience!

Really top week, beautiful scenary, good mix of peaceful and lively places, an excellent guide and for someone like me with limited kayaking experience it wasn't super tough, but some good challenging bits to let you know you've learnt something.

Exodus Response

We were surprised to hear that Susanne was not impressed by the equipment used by her group as we have previously received great reviews for this trip. We’re sorry that her experience wasn’t as positive as others, so we have looked into her comments.
