A Steamy Fortnight

Wasn't sure what to expect other than heat, although I must admit at times even the humidity surprised me (travelled in February). Normally I go to sleep in the small hours but each day was so busy with varied activities that I was happy to turn in after dinner.

Espedalen Cross Country Skiing 1st to 8 8th March 2015

The first two days of the trip had the best skiing I have ever enjoyed anywhere. This was helped by the metal edges on the cross country hire skis I was given. My rooms were spacious and comfortable and had controllable heating unlike so many places I have stayed with Waymark and Exodus in the past. The large bathroom had underfloor heating which was excellent for drying clothes. The cold water supply was from a mountain stream, so the tap water tasted better than all water form the tap at my home and better than most bottled water. The Thai food cooked by our hostess Surina was outstanding, better than most Thai restaurants. She and her assistant also did very well to cater for the diverse requirements of her guests some of whom required gluten free, some no fish, and some were vegetarians. Stefan was an exceptional host, helping to cut tracks for skiing, and on Wednesday 4th driving an hour to Lillehammer and back on the same day twice, to visit the hospital with injured skiers. The second time he waited with me while I was being treated, helping to keep my morale up by listening to my rambling conversation, while I was under the influence of first shock, and then hospital administered morphine.

Crazy Marrakesh and Wonderful Mountain Walks

On the one hand a wonderful sophisticated urban mix of frenetic souk sellers, beautiful palaces, peaceful gardens and mosques, crazy street life; and on the other a rural mountain village idyll with clean air, stunning views, rushing streams, mules and baby goats.

Nevache snowshoeing

Excellent trip, rewarded with some spectacular views. Yves the guide was brilliant and made the most of the days that we had good snow conditions and sunshine. All the mountain huts were located in remote and beautiful locations.

Classic Vietnam and Angkor Wat

Travel time is minimised but this trip still packs alot in. There are some free afternoons but tempting optional experiences soon fill the time. We were made very welcome by everyone we met.

Locals in conical hats looking out over Halong Bay, Vietnam

This was an inspiring holiday that took in the whole of Vietnam, North to South with experiences with the locals every day. Fairly fast paced on a couple of days but with down time on other days which was most welcome. So many experiences and the opportunity to travel by overnight train, stay on a boat at Halong Bay and with a host family at a hone stay in the Mekong Delta made this trip very special - thank you!

Walking the Amalfi coast

A great weeks activity I feel much fitter. The activity was occasionally tailored to the needs of our group, done sympathetically with no fuss, the great number of steps involved on some walks provoked some knee problems. The hotel was warm, comfy and served great food of excellent variety and quality, I don't think I've ever been so well fed or served. Our guide Christina knew her job well, was friendly and attentive without being over fussy. Her suggestion to visit a paper making demonstration was a real bonus to the trip and put the walk and scenery for that day into context.

Cycling Vietnam

We shared our trip with 16 others and each day we experienced something different. The scenery was stunning, the diversity of crops and farming was amazing and having a window into the history and the present day lives of the people of Vietnam was indeed a privilege. We had so many experiences, perhaps a bit long in the bus on some days but that gave us a rest and enabled us to reach our daily destinations. Some days the riding was pretty strenuous with the heat but I was grateful for my pre holiday fitness on the bike. Finishing up with the overnight train ride from Hue to Hanoi was fun and the trip on the boat to Halon Bay was stunning.
