We joined the exodus Discover Burma tour code EON in Yangon on 22 nd December. This was our first experience with Exodus, friends had recommended your company who had been on your tours to other countries.
Exodus promotional material had told us that the maximum number of people would be 16 with an average between 6 and 12. We met up with the group to find 17 people and then discovered that there was only one local guide for the whole of the 13 night tour. This was far too big a group for one person however good the guide. Had we realised that this was the case we would not have come.
Naylin, our guide in Myanmar, was placed in a very difficult position having to manage such a large group with no support. His logistic organisation was exceptionally good and it was a very big task given that we had three flights. He and we should have had support for each of the day tours to help provide local information about the places we visited and provided the capability of splitting the group into a manageable size for travelling through crowded streets and into markets.
The tour as a whole we found interesting particularly the boat trip and the visits to the craft industries. The wine tour was very unsatisfactory as there was no wine making process to see because it was the wrong time of the year to harvest. The winery guide did not even use the diagram on display to take us through the process we were just shown machinery.
We will not be travelling with Exodus again after this experience unless Exodus can guarantee a better client to guide ratio.
