We really loved this cycling holiday! - more than I was expecting, as some of the prior reviews had been less than stellar, but Exodus have made changes and it went very well indeed.
The Burmese people, scenery, climate, and food were all wonderful. We were in a great group of 10 of varying ages, interests and stories to share.
Before leaving I was concerned that maybe there might not be enough cycling for my taste, but it was enough for me, and typical of their other moderate cycling holidays. I see this as a “use cycling as an enabler to see the real Myanmar”, rather than as a cycling holiday in a nice location. The total distance is around 440km over 11 days, ranging from 16 to 60 km.
Hotels were overall good; better than I’d anticipated. Most provided coffee making stuff, hot showers. Some were wonderful with pools and spas. Wifi was provided in all, but their access to the internet was poor so it was common to connect but have no access, or very slow intermittent access.
The bikes are new Trek Marlin 7’s with 29” wheels on the larger frames, and 650’s (I think) on the smaller. They were meticulously maintained by the mechanic. Tires were fat, which I realized were needed within a few km on our first day – there are several off-road sections with rocks or soft sand, which would be very muddy in the wet season. Roads were excellent with few significant potholes (way better than in India on last year’s trip, or back home in Canada). The support team provided water, sports-drink powder, fruit and snacks at the rest stops, which were generally every 15km or so.
