What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?
Witnessing (from a respectful distance) the moderate walk group lined up in a flower-speckled Alpine meadow singing a mid-afternoon "Sound of Music" medley with passion and feeling. They'd carried the sheet music in their rucksacks all day in readiness. For the benefit of any non-singers thinking of going on this trip, I should make it clear that the tour leaders said this performance had no precedent and it is certainly not a compulsory part of the trip ... yet.
More seriously I was amazed by the sheer number and variety of wild flowers that I saw. I've been on several mountain holidays where the flowers have not lived up to their billing. On this trip, different pockets of climatic and soil conditions meant that we could encounter everything from late winter flowers to midsummer flowers in one day's walking.
One day, as part of a very small challenging walk group, I got very close to a marmot that seemed fairly unconcerned by our presence.
And there were too many spectacular mountain and valley views to talk about.
