This proved to be a tremendous trip. We had travelled to the Antarctic with Quark Expeditions (booked through Exodus) and decided to travel with Quark and Exodus again, this time to the Arctic. It was quite a different trip in terms of wildlife. There was less to see, but it was really special. Sightings included polar bears, walrus, a variety of birds (but fewer of them), plus bowhead and beluga whales. However, the interaction with the Inuit people and getting to know about their lives was really good and informative. The landscapes were also good to see.
Being able to walk on Cape Low, with the sun setting. The Expedition Team had not landed there before, and maybe nobody had in many years. There is no vegetation, just rocks and many fossils, but it was beautiful. Masses of krill, a few birds, and lots of long shadows as the sun set.
Alex, the group leader, was extremely good. He, the other members of the Expedition Team, and the crew did an excellent job to enable us to get off the boat several times a day where possible. Their flexibility to ensure we got the most out of our trip was excellent.
We chose this trip over others for its potential variety and we would not hesitate to recommend it. For travellers starting from Europe there is the benefit of the clocks going back on several occasions en route. Starting in Canada the traveller will lose hours.
It was a great trip with lots of photographic opportunities. Highly recommended.
