Update: June 2009
Many of you have followed and supported our work in Sri Lanka following the devastating tsunami on Boxing Day 2004. The Back to Life project was founded by our partners in Sri Lanka to raise funds to re-build 25 homes for displaced families. A few months ago we were very pleased to announce that we had completed the re-building project and that the last family had moved into their new home. However, the Back to Life charity still had £5,000 remaining in their 'pot', part of which was donated by Exodus.
We were all struck by the news headlines and images as the fighting in the north east of Sri Lanka between the government forces and the Tamil Tigers reached a climax. Thousands of families fled their homes, with just the bare essentials of personal belongings. As a result, Back to Life decided that the remaining money would be best spent on humanitarian aid in the form of essential equipment such as bottled water, toothpaste, soaps and milk powder. In addition, with no form of entertainment in the refugee centres, a request was made for 30 television sets. All the equipment was handed over to the Ministry of Tourism and installed in the camps at the end of May.
We'd like to thank all who donated and helped on this project over the last few years.
Back to life - Hand over ceremony
This project has now been completed and, as scheduled, the final 10 houses of Back To Life Project were handed over on 09 January 2009. We are delighted with the response we received from doners and although many of you couldn’t attend the handover, we have some stories and photos to share with you of this memorable day, which are in the 'Back to Life' newsletter.

Back to life
We have been working with the NGO ‘Back to Life’ since the world witnessed one of the greatest natural disasters in living memory, the 2004 Tsunami. After the Tsunami destroyed the lives of so many on the island of Sri Lanka, Back to Life set about raising money to re-build 25 homes for displaced families.
We are very excited to announce that as of April 2008, through money raised by our returning clients, Exodus was able to hand Back to Life the final £5,000 needed to complete the 25th house. We would like to thank all those who have donated money over the last 4 ½ years, donations that will forever change the lives of 25 displaced families.
