Who is going on the Great Wall of China (TCW) on September 6th?

Sun, 04/08/2012 - 09:57

I would like to meet you (virtually). I am also going to X'ian to see the Terracotta army, so I would like to know if anyone has booked this, and would like to share. Time is going quickly, so it would be great to get in touch.

Hi Phyllis

Judy and I are doing the Great wall trip and then are doing the Highlights of Bhina trip.  I went to London on Monday to arrange the visas so it's getting very close.

Hi Brian,

After the main trip I am doing the trip to Xian to see the Terracotta Army. As you say, it's getting very close. Did you book your flights through Exodus? If so we could meet up at Heathrow Airport. I haven't heard from anyone else yet, so I don't know who else is doing the trip. I'm getting to London by coach and I should be at Heathrow by 4pm. Anyway, let me know if you want to meet up there. See you soon.

Hi Phyl

Yes we did book flights through Exodus but we are flying from Gatwick at 14.25 using Emirates changing in Dubai.  Exodus are really annoying doing this to get the best deals on the day of booking.  Are you going direct on BA?

Visas arrived yesterday in the post.....

See you soon

I am travelling direct, but on Air China International from Heathrow. I would have prefered to travel from Gatwick as it's nearer to me, living on the Isle of Wight lol. It looks like we'll be meeting in Beijing. I arrive at 13.30 Friday 7th. Oh well, see you both soon.

Ah.  We are behind you - we arrive at 15.10, if all goes according to plan.

You have a free day in Beijing  at the end of the trip while you wait for your overrnight train to Xian.  We have the same day free while we wait for the next trip (ACH Highlights) to start.  In all we will have 6 days in Beijing. We will be returning from Shanghai which may account for the different airlines.

Yes I know we have a free day in Beijing at the end of the trip, before travelling on. We might be able to go sightseeing together on that day, but we have the trip before that to look forward to.

We see you are on Facebook but haven't been able to find you.  Judy has an account under Judith Kite (Milton Keynes). It would be good to see anything about your sahara adventure.

Hi Brian,

I was just wondering, as you've been a member for 4 yrs, what trips have you done with Exodus, and how good were they?

Ah!

In 2004 when we retired we did APX - 22days around Peru including Nazca lines,Colcha Canyon, Lake Titicaca, Cuzco,  Machu Picchu and the Amazon Rainforest.  The accommodation was very good and the Guide Rene was excellent.  He really took care of the group and we extremely knowledgeable of his country.  As we were at high altitude most of the group (total 14) had some symptoms of altitude sickness.  Rene really helped us through that and called upon doctors when necessary.  All through the trip he was assessing us as to the capacity to walk the Inca Trail.  The trail was brilliant with very capable porters etc.  The other group leaders kept in touch with Rene as he was the only leader with a satelite phone.

In 09 we did AOG Thai Indochina Grand Tour taking in Thailand, Laos, Vietnam and Cambodia.  Again we had very knowledgeable local leaders, each from their own country.  The accommodation varied from cosmopolital hotels in urban areas and homestays in the more rural parts.  All the leaders looked after us extemely well.

We have also been to Madiera on a walking trip with Exodus.  Again the accommodation was comfortable and the leader extremely knowledgeable of his native island.

We enjoy the random mix of fellow travellers and the activities both organised and free.

We did a camping  trip around the western USA with TrekAmerica were the leader was 'just a driver' (although he would say he was going to walk to...  and we were free to join him, it wasn't in his job description) and we much prefer the Exodus mix.

Thanks Brian. I'm thinking of doing the Canyonlands trip in May next year, and I'd like to do the Inca trail eventually. It's nice to hear that you think Exodus is a good company. At the moment I'm gathering together all of the information that I downloaded for this trip, and I'm looking forward to receiving my e-ticket and instructions in the next couple of weeks. See you both soon.
