Hi Vickie, I've signed up for the September 11th trek. Actually that's three of us - a friend, Martin also booked. We've just spent 2 days yomping around the south downs... no altitude sickness yet! How's your training going?

Hi,

Nice to hear from you all. Seems I should have checked for responses sooner!!

Richard-  Im booked in with my other half Duncs (now we are at 4!) and we've been up Snowdon and done a few long walks around the Surrey Hills. We are also doing the Yorkshire 3 peaks in end of July... Doesn't quite amount to the lofty heights of kilimanjaro though so hoping its enough!

Also trying to get my head around the kit list, visas, vaccinations etc - lots still to do.

Where are you flying from? (we are going from Heathrow)

Hi,

Sorry it's taken a time to reply, like you we've been doing as much walking & cycling as possible and not checking in here.

We are both based in East London so we'll also be flying from Heathrow.

Did the London 2 Brighton bike ride last weekend... Phew! (the south coast is not all down hill from london) but great fun.

Unfortunately work keeps throwing a spanner in our plans to get some big hills under our belt but we hope to test our legs & lungs in august.

Fortunately we've both sorted most of the kit already & are now working our way through the vaccinations.

Where are you getting your visas? we're thinking of getting them at the airport upon arrival. ( info on trip adviser suggests it's not a problem ) If you get your visas from the Embassy in London could you please let us know about your experience.

Good luck with the Yorkshire 3 Peaks.

Hi All,

There will be two more along for the ride - my sister and I booked in at the beginning of the year but I've only just got around to taking a look here.

There has been some training taking place. I did the Yorkshire 3Peaks a couple of months ago and we're going to Snowdon in August. A few other walks, but other than that more general exercise.

Kit is pretty much taken care of and so are the vaccinations - although there is still the malarone to get. Where are people sourcing theirs from? Prices seem to vary quite widely.

We are flying out of Heathrow too and planning on getting visas there as it seems like that is recommended.

That kind of makes it all sound so easy .... now just to get to the top!

Whoopsie - think I might have got that wrong. We depart on the 10th not the 11th!

Can't believe its only two weeks away!!

The Yorkshire three peaks was stunning, thankfully we had good weather.  A few weeks ago I randomly met someone else on our trip - (what are the chances of that?!) Her name is Anita and she is really lovely and upbeat.  She said there are 13 of us in total which is a nice sized group.

There is not too much to organise now, kit is done, jabs are done and training is as good as it will be (time will tell if its good enough).

How is everyone else getting on?

 Vickie

PS Richard we got yellow fever exemption certificates too so hope that is ok.

Starting to get excited now. Seems like I've been waiting for this to come round for a long time. Everything seems to fit in the kit bag, with a couple of vital items in the hand luggage just incase the unthinkable happens.

Training is done. Did Snowdon on the August bank holiday weekend - thankfully early on so we missed the crowds. And had a last run end of last week. No more training - more because I don't want to risk a last minute injury than anything else.

I think we are planning on getting to Heathrow about 1700/1730 depending on the reliability of London's transport system. Will be good to meet everyone, watch out for the green kit bags floating around the check in desks!
