Hi ,

This would be my first trip with Exodus , and Iam so looking for it . Would anyone booked for this trip has already travelled with Exodus ?

Iam looking for getting to know anyone booked for this amazing trip , and hearing stories of experienced or not so experienced travellers ,  so hopefully speak soon !

Also , let's share your tips about  fixing a tent ,  please . ..!  I have to admit , slightly embarrassing thing , that I never put up a tent in my Life . ..Does anyone will assist me in AFrica ? ! The idea of camping in Africa is  much more appealing than the idea of camping  in Ireland , where I would probably end up soaked up .

à bientot tout le monde ,

Hi there,

This will be my first travel experience with Exodus but have a friend who has been on a couple of trips and  she always had a great time which is what has encouraged me!!! I have not put a tent up for many years but am sure that we will be  given some help !!!

I am hoping to have a flight in a hot air balloon over the plains... this has always been a special dream of mine and  I'm also hoping to take some great photos. Look forward to meeting you on the trip.

Hi Mary ,

Africa fascinates me since iam a child .. , this is for sure , a dream of mine too .

I am glad to have found trip operator such as Exodus that welcome solo travellers , as I would find myself , as a woman , not that adventurous jetting off on my own to far destinations ...I have been on a couple of trips on my own around Europe , but I was really sceptical about the idea of doing it in Africa or Asia , where I would like to go to . I havent been travelling much yet , so this kind of travelling concept among a small group of people does really give me enthusiasm for future plans .

Have  u been travelling yourself a bit ?  Are you into photography ?

Ah , I wasnt really that worried about the tent , Iam sure I will be super practical once into the wild ! I might even use my french cooking skills for the preparation of the meals! . AH , no , it wouldnt stick to the scenery .

Looking forward to meet you to , meanwhile , take care .

Hi Aurelie,

I haven't done any travelling on my own before but am really looking forward to making some new friends on the trip hopefully. If all goes well I think I may be tempted to visit some other destinations. I am also interested in Namibia and Marakesh as well as some Indian locations.

I enjoy taking photos but do not claim to be an expert photographer at all!!!!

Speak soon

Hello/Bonjour ladies

I just got confirmed on the trip.  It's taken me a few months to get my head around the idea of camping amongst wild animals, but now I'm booked I'm super excited.

This is my second trip with Exodus.  I did 3 weeks through China with them a couple of years ago and they were excellent. I went on that trip on my own and I'm still friends with the girl I shared with.  My friend Bridgette is also coming on this trip and has done a few other Exodus trips before, the last 2 in India and she's also still alive!

It's my first trip to Africa and I have no idea how to pitch a tent - if I mess it up I'll just have to sleep under the stars .... we'll manage between us!

A friend of mine did this exact trip a few years ago. Her advice was to prepare yourself for the odd scary toilet and that when you head for that toilet under torchlight you might see a whole lot of eyes staring back at you from the darkness! Exciting :0)

Looking forward to it......

 Hi Sharon ,
Iam more sceptical about the cold shower than the eyes in the darkness ! yes definitly exciting ! No hot showers guaranteed ..Brrrr
I guess i will train myself a couple of days before hand .. , Brrr I hate cold showers !
I will bring my kettle ! ( where would I plug it  by the way . ) . I will boil the water , somehow !!!

Anyway ...It will be lot of fun , and  a great adventure !

See u ,
Aurélie .

Hi Mary

I have not yet been for a consultation yet, I plan to do that with Nomads.  I did have a little look online some time back and I was expecting I would need quite a few shots and Malaria tablets.  I would be interested to know what you've been advised to get.....

Hi there Sharon,

I have just had hep A and hep B. I am advised to have typhoid and yellow fever and probably rabies( but that has been left to me.. about £116 for the rabies but hey that is the lesser of two evils I guess if bitten by a rabid animal!!!) My nurse is looking into whether I should have a shot for Meningococcal disease and then of course there will be the malaria stuff as well!!!! I will look like a pin cushion when I am finished and a skint one at that  I think!!!!!!

Oh goodness. I've just come back from my consultation....  lucky for me I already have hep A & B and typhoid.  So, yellow fever is the main one for me but I've been told that the good malaria tablets will cost me £102.50!

I already had the rabis injections for a previous trip.  The decision on that occasion was based on the fact tha, if you do get bitten then you need a blood transfusion and daily injections for about a week - which messes up your holiday, but if you've had the injections then you just need 2 more booster injections and can go on your way.  It is expensive though.

On the up side I was told there should be no need for the meningitus shot - airborn in busy/urban areas (public transport etc) so very low risk when we are travelling on our own bus and only there for a short time.

She then went on to tell me that I should bring a good medical kit including sterilised needles so that you know they are clean if you do need to visit a hospital.  Blimey - and I was worried about the lions!

Hi Ladies,

This trip is now full, I just booked the last space, so I think there are 20 people. I have always wanted to do a safari, and am really excited. I don't mind camping but I am bit nervous about being zipped in a small tent with a large spider. I did my first trip with exodus last year to Peru, and it was great fun. That trip included 4 days camping, it was very comfortable and food was great. On that trip there were no showers, so if there are cold ones on this trip it will be a luxury. My top tips of what to take if you're not used to camping are wet wipes and dry shampoo (incase there are no showers) and a head torch.

Look forward to meeting you all in October

Hello ladies and gents, great to see that we're all booked up for this trip. Looks like everyone's getting organised, I've been buy holiday shopping. Not started on the vaccinations yet though... One concern i've had is over money, it says that travellers cheques are'nt great, but not keen on carrying all my money on me in cash! Speak soon, Haze

I may be naive in saying this, but a lot of travel places do cash cards, like a top up credit card where you go to an atm to draw your money out.  I'm assuming atm access is limited in the Sarengeti!! But you could take enough cash to get you to zanzibar and the rest on the card? Just a suggestion :)

Hi everyone , well I start my course of injections tomorrow evening , I am letting the Medics decide which one or one's I am having , to be honest I have not gone into a lot of work on the cost has we have to have them anyway and I would prefer my own Surgery to do them.Read the detailed summary sent out last week and it looks like we will get to each other very quickly working on the Safari. Anyone else from the Manchester area going on this trip ?.

Hello Everyone,

As per the CDC (Centres for Disease Control) in Atlanta, Georgia, immunizationis recommended against Hepatitis A & B, Typhoid and Yellow Fever. We will be travelling below the region where meningococcal meningitis is present, therefore a vaccine against this is not necessary, nor is rabies considered a risk. To prevent travellers' diarrhea Dukoral, an oral vaccine, is very effective. It is taken in two doses, the last one week prior to departure. As for anti-malarial medication, Malarone in the one recommended, expensive since it is is a combination of two drugs.

I booked this trip last January with Exodus - my last one to Morocco was absolutely delightful. I too am excited about this safari and am looking forward to meeting all of you.

I live by the Atlantic Ocean in New Brunswick. An Acadian, I speak French, albeit with a markedly different accent from the one spoken by Aurélie.

Since I will be in transit for at least 24 hours prior to my arrival in Nairobi, I have booked the Silver Springs Hotel for the two nights prior to our boarding our overland vehicle on Sunday, October 16. Is anyone arriving on a flight other than the one leaving from London on October 15 ?

Hi Odette,

Thanks for the advice about vaccines. I did consult my travel nurse at my local surgery and tended to go with her advice. I have however read that travellers are very often given conflicting advice about which vaccines to take!!! Will be good to meet you

Looking forward to meeting you all soon.

Hi Mary,

You are absolutely right about the conflicting medical advice although one would think that tropical medicine is universal in scope. But who are we to question ?  I do recommend the Dukoral, however, as well as a booster for tetanus.

I too look forward to meeting you.

Hi there... my understanding was that mosquito nets are provided within our tents and that you only needed to bring one if you intended sleeping out under the stars....... but I am open to correction on this..... am sure I read it somewhere though!!

Thanks Mary, I read that too about the tents having nets. I was thinking about when we were in Zanzibar and the hostels/hotels... but I guess they should have them. Perhaps beign a tad over careful!

Hi there,

I am not quite sure if we are all booked on the flight to Nairobi on Saturday evening, but my understanding is that the seats are not block booked. If we meet up before and check in together I think we are more likely to get seats together and  thus have the opportunity to get acquainted. on the flight.  Maybe it's a case of looking out for others with an exodus baggage label. Anyone else have any thoughts about this?
