Indian Visa

Hi

Can anyone offer me advise as to when the earliest I can apply for an indian tourist visa for travel start Oct?  My initial application has been returned to me for "too early application" although would have allowed return travel within the 6months visa period?

I had hoped to have the visa in my hand before settling the balance for my trip!

Hi MJD2013.

I'm booked on this trip on 17th October and am trying to get my head around the Indian Visa application.  Well done for getting it completed even though you've had it returned.  Did you send everything by post or did you have to hand it all in at their offices.  The information on the Indian Visa website is pretty confusing.  Have you managed to find out when to re-submit?

I have also booked on this Tour and then continuing on the Singhalla Ridge trek but have made no moves towards obtaining the Indian Visa but I have noticed that the cost has risen considerably. I have been told by other people that the process time is not too long so I will be applying in September.

I will be on the Jet flight although I have booked through Trailfinders, Bristol.

Although I am going on the earlier trip on the 4th October, I will also be appling for the Indian Visa in August/Early September.

Concerning immunisations etc, contact yur GP Surgery and they can give you the up to date information.

Do not worry about travelling alone. Exodus is an excellent Company for sole travellers.

I am booked onto the 3/4th October departure but have had to renew my passport before I can apply for the Visa, also had to have special size 'Indian Visa' photos done! Any idea of timing of return of Visa applicaiton appreciated - am hoping to get my passport back by the end of July and then apply in August. This will be my second Exodus trip (I did the Indochina Grand Tour in 2011) and if it is half as good as that it will be excellent. Travelling solo on an Exodus Tour is actually one of the highlights, an adventure which is not too scary, as the trip is likely to be very well organised and there is a readymade group to engage with.  SAJx

Hi MJD,

I'm booked on this trip too, any progress with your visa?  Any idea how much a Visa for non-UK residents costs?  Would appreciate any other advice - first time using exodus ahhh!

It was all quite painles in the end once I had navigated the disjointed website and completed the many forms.  I received my visa last week, the turnaround was only 3-4 days.

The cost was around £115 including courier and 'Special Indian Visa Photo!' Not sure about  the cost for non Uk residents.

Hi, jmg2210 and anyone else booked on this date.  We're booked on the Oct 17th trip too. Just started to look at the visa application and am quite daunted! I'm sure it will be ok once I get started tho. Found out that Max Spielmann is good for the right sized photos if you haven't got a Snappysnaps or Jessops nearby.

Put mine in on Monday 19th, had it back today. Nothing easier.

As long as the photos are ok and you fill out the form, they'll send a 6 month visa back.

only sent my application this morning after a lot more hassle than Graham had obviously but maybe thats down to my pc....couldn't get access to site for ages...got there in the end.....i think, we'll see what comes back!

Anyone have any other tips on other prep for this trip, e.g. delhi belly precautions perhaps?

I sent the Visa application off last Thursday so it will be delayed over the Bank Holiday. Complicated form and I did not sign the back of the second photo and I am not sure that I should have done as I could not see any instructions concerning this. Very expensive is my only comment so far! Pleased to read Graham's comment that it only took five days and this is the comment I had from a friend who will be in India at the same time as me but travelling independently.

If your local Jessops has re-opened then they do an excellent job quickly and efficiently

Didn't sign the 2nd photo either, so dont panic.

I've had some excellent advice from one of my twitter followers, she lives out in India. Gave me pretty good do's and dont's.

TBH, as far as the food is concerned, its the same as over here, if you go to bad place to eat, you're more than likely gonna get food poisoning. When out in India, go where the locals go.

Baby wipes, hand gels etc are a must.

I'll copy and paste what she sent.

Visa arrived today!

All I have to do now is to get fit. I am currently suffering from a broken collar bone after a cycling accident in Lithuania on the Exodus Cycling in the Baltics trip!

So far I've been advised NOT to consume the following:

meat, shellfish, dairy, salads especially lettuce, water even for washing teeth etc., fruit, and now beer has been added to list- apparently it attracts mosquitoes!!  leaving out anything?

..........can't but wonder what exactly I will be eating.

Got shots today....ouch!

Ree do not worry, Exodus has been running these trips for years and their leaders are very experienced and will only take us to recommended restaurants. I will not eat shellfish whether in the UK or abroad, My builder was very ill at Easter having eaten shell fish in the UK and my room mate was ill in Latvia having eaten shellfish.

A friend went to India with Exodus and no-one on his trip was ill. I always use bottle water to clean my teeth. Fruit is fine as long as it is peeled and again salads are not recommended although I had no trouble in Myanmar in December eating lettuce reluctantly.

I have had to cancel my visit to India following a cycling accident on the Cycling in the Baltics trip.

I have written a longer note on the other lead for this trip.

Have a good time and I am disappointed that I will not be with you.
