Hi Slim, I am going from Amsterdam ( 10.45 ) but flying from Manchester. Starting to panic about what to bring and how fit i need to be? ( ha ha we only have one mountain on Isle of Man but lots of small hills )  also my Doc has said i do not need malaria tablets but have read that some people do take them, What are you doing ?

Hi canada

I am on the 10-45 from Amsterdam as well, at least you have snaefell and peel mountains to practise on there are no peaks at all in Suffolk. As long as you are reasonably fit you will be fine I am 63 today and went to Everest base camp 2 years ago. That was my first introduction to trekking. You can be as fit as you like but you cannot train for altitude, I never had any problems last time just a slight headache each morning which a couple of anadin soon put right.

Hi canada

There were a few on the Everest trip who had done the Inca trail and said it was terrific. A couple of them recommended me to fly from Amsterdam they said it was a good flight. I am starting to sort my gear out to take I knew expect in the Himalayas not quite so sure here.

Hi Canada

The hardest bit I found on the Everest trip was the aching across the backpack for the first two or three days. I intend to do some walking with a backpack on for a while before I go,

Hi Slim

Not long to go now !!! My walking plan has not gone to plan ! ( but I guess that is life ) but I still have two weeks !!!! Do you want to meet up for coffeee in Amsterdam airport ? I have about two hours to kill, what about you ? I will be the one with red eyes, walking boots and a backback that sticks out about a mile from my back ( bought for me for this trip ) say at the espressobar ( looked it up on the net ) at 9.30am ?

Hi Canada yes I am going to try and check right through from Norwich it was not a problem when I went to Thailand 4 years ago and saves a lot of hassle at Amsterdam. I am really looking forward to it i am now going through my list and starting to pack my bag.

Hi Slim Well I have never been trekking so will be interesting to see what i have to say say at the end of it !! most of my stuff is lent, given or new but that does include some walking sticks (?? some people say you dont need them but having gone on a few training walks with them and I think you do! bit worried about the weight off all my stuff so going to pack exodus bag and weigh it ( then panic ) then pack it up in normal luggage

Hi Canada

I can honestly say that was money well spent on walking sticks, I walked a short distance in Nepal without them and I soon started using them again.I will have my bag on the scales this weekend as well as long as you have enough clothes to keep warm and dry thats the main thing. I bought a couple of waterproof liners for my Exodus bag and one for my rucksac just in case.
