Hi Sylvia

My other half (Martin) and I are on this trip. Paid the outstanding balance today which means it'll soon be here! When I asked I was told there are 16 of us on the trip so we're fully booked.

I'm guessing the nights we're in the mountains and desert will be fairly chilly in December so a decent sleeping bag and some thermals might be in order.

Have you travelled with Exodus before?

Vicki

You guys are doing this trip a few days before me. Unfortunately I get Christmas in the UK,

Any chance on a heads up on the temperature so I know how much warm stuff to pack? They do mention a 4 season sleeping bag!

Hi Vicki and Sylvia, i'm booked on the Morocco trip as well. The temperature in Casablanca is looking around 19-20 degrees at the moment, so we might be lucky and get a bit of winter sun. I think i'll still pack my thermals though! Not long now, Joanne

Hi there,

I've been to Mt Toubkal in April and the nights were very, very cold, so I can't imagine that winter would be any warmer. Ditto the desert especially in winter - I have friends who live in Marrakesh and a regular desert trekkers.

Cheers.

ps. I'm heading off to Jordan on 19th Dec!

... and what do your regular desert trekking friends advise on clothing requirements in the mountains?

...will it be coming with you?

For Toubkal in winter - sensible to wear layers so you can peel some off if you get hot while climbing. So, t-shirts and light fleeces. Trousers v shorts.

I've also just heard on the BBC nothing is going from T4 at Heathrow today which is where the group flight was going from. Got through to the airline (Royal Air Maroc) early this morning and they told me to call back later as they didn't have any information. Phoned the out of hours number who told me to phone Exodus at 10am. At the moment there only seems to be their standard 'these are our opening times' message on their answer phone. Anyone else had any luck?

Whilst I am not going to Morocco I was due to fly to day from T4 at Heathrown to Tunisia, there are no flights from T4, I have managed to speak to Exodus and Tunis Air who I am flying with and both have confirmed that there will be no flights today.

Nothing will be able to be done about rebooking until Monday.

I have to say very frustrating!!

I spoke to Exodus this morning, they dont think they'll be able to reschedule our flight until Tuesday, they said they would contact us as soon as they have confirmation from the airlines (they thought some time tomorrow). I suppose they cant do much until the airport re-opens...

Hi Joanne, sounds like you've had a bit more luck getting through to someone that the rest of us. I've given up trying to get anymore information so I'm off to the shops to buy some food - I'm hungry and we've got nothing in the house!! No snow here either which makes it all the more frustrating!

Hi Guys, I'm on a different trip leaving today - anyway I managed to get straight through on the customer operations number - 0845 863 9643 which is a different number the 24hr line are telling people to call.  But the guy was quite helpful, told me they are trying to rearrange flights for my trip and will contact people as soon as they have something sorted.

Good luck and enjoy your trip :)

Hi

We have failed miserably in being able to get any response from anyone - whether Exodus (3 different nos) to Royal Air Maroc. Whilst it appears no flights today (Sunday)  - does anyone know whether we should try and re-book direct with airline - or will Exodus do and contact us ?

Exodus have now put an update on their website if you click on the 'Travelling this weekend' link on the homepage. Andrew Appleyard from Exodus contacted me in response to a request I put on Facebook and said that they now have guys in answering calls and looking at flights for the next couple of days. Like Joanne mentioned, it will be tomorrow before they get any further info but they will be contacting people (or we can contact them) to discuss options.

I am on a different trip but no-one on my trip seemed to be getting through to Exodus, so I trawled other blogs.  I got through on the number you suggested (though I had tried that one earlier today) so am hopeful to get information eventually, even if no holiday!  Good luck for your trip!

Hi all,

It looks like we're all in the same ship, so to speak....having heard nothing from Exodus and wasting much time and energy on fruitless phone calls. I was meant to be flying to Amman for the Wadi Rum/Petra trekking trip. As we were planning to stay a few extra days in Amman after the trip, we had to book our flights separately, which probably means that we're doubly screwed!

I've just come back from HTR - we had booked to stay in a hotel overnight as our flight was due to leave at 10am on 19th via Paris-Amman with Air France. The airlines have gone AWOL too - AF sent us a text after midnight to say the flight was cancelled and bon soir! They cannot be reached since!.

Oh well, I'm still a foolish optimist and hope to get to Jordan yet! And wish all of you the best of luck with your travels.

Nessa.

  • I got through once and put these very questions to them? Why can't they post some updates on Twitter/FB? Ans: that's the responsibility of the marketing department and they're not in today... Fail.
  • I then read out some of the angry comments on this bulletin board, and asked why they can't monitor their own bulletin boards and deal with their clients' worries there? Ans: none. Fail again.

Actually I think that I would rather they were answering the phones and dealing with queries than posting on Facebook/Twitter or reading the bulletin board.  I left a message as I was already in transit and they got back to me really quickly and were very helpful.  It is not actually the fault of Exodus that this country is so ill equipped to deal with any sort of weather.  The key thing for me is being able to get on another flight.  I hope to meet you all in Morocco.

Interesting....what did Exodus say? Are they still hopeful that something can be sorted?

Given that I tried several times for long periods today to contact Exodus - to no avail - common sense would dictate that there are many ways to contact all of us via email/Twitter/FB to say something; at this stage anything would do.

Re the airport mess, it's down to BAA to get planes (even some) off the ground. We caught a bus from HTR back to the tube station and roads around HTR were working just fine, so why not the runway at HTR?  A US traveller commented that he had arrived on Fri from CHicago O' Hare where there was 7ft of snow piled up outside but the airport was open and flights were not disrupted! Hmmmm...time for BAA to lose far more of its monopoly on UK airports so that travellers can be treated like human beings, unlike what I witnessed last night and today.

Have a look at the Facebook page or the website - they give advice on what to do.  Essentially they will be trying to rebook the group flights ASAP, but unlikely to be tomorrow - probably Tuesday or Wednesday.  Alternatively you can request a refund.

Afternoon all.  I have just had a call from Exodus saying that they are not able to rebook the flights.  Such a shame.  I hope that you are all able to have a break over Christmas one way or another and perhaps we will meet up somewhere else.

Hi there, I've just had that phone call too :-( Have a good Christmas everyone whatever you end up doing and sorry I won't meet you all. I'm still hoping to do the trip sometime in the future...

I almost never get 14 consecutive days annual leave. I'd bought new sleeping bag, new suitcase & rucksack - a video camera + extended battery and SD cards  I'd still love to go, but I can't see myself doing this trip anytime soon.... Hope you all get a chance of going sometime. Over and out

 Dear Paul

Oh Im so sorry but sadly we are all in the same boat and although really sad about not getting away for the festive season at least we arent stuck in an airport somewhere.  The pictures  on TV look dreadful.  All your purchases can be used again.  Very best wishes to everyone and a healthy and prosperous 2011.

Indeed perspective is required. We stayed in a hotel in LHR on Sat night - pre-booked. The bus from T1 to our hotel made several stops picking up stranded passengers - mainly foreigners, some in tears at having been stranded outside the airport in the cold for ages. THe bus driver was exceptionally to these people and was advising them on hotels on route etc.

T1 was in a mess.Responsible for all this mess is BAA - it should lose its licence to run LHR on the grounds of abject failure to delvier a service. There was no excuse for leaving 1/2 billion people stranded - they had two weeks notice re the cold snap! I won't even mention the fact that our wonderful government hasn't seemed to notice there is an emergency at LHR.

Re refunds, anyone who had booked their flights separately will not get a refund for the land-only part of the trip. That's me! At least, I'm not stuck in T1 wondering where I'll spend Xmas! And I am determined to use that sleeping bag at some stage while looking at the Middle Eastern night sky!

Cheers all.

Nessa.

I was on the AXJ tour to Damascus which also folded in the end. I, too, was frustrated all weekend. Just heard on the BBC News that BAA refused Government and Army help to clear the runways as BAA was coping !!!!!  It's BAA's fault, not Exodus's.
