Looking forward to meeting you all! Laura and I did a Guerba truck journey in 2004 and loved it - have been desperate to get back to Africa ever since. Exodus are very good - I went to Burma with them in September and thought they were excellent, so this should be fantastic...

Good to know someone who has been with Exodus before and had a good experience.

We're going on the 30th August. This will be my sixth trip with Exodus. Every other trip I've been on with them has exceeded expectations. They are simply the best. Liz

Hi, I am booked for the August 6-21 /13 trip to see the Gorrillas and Masai Mara. This is my first trip with Exodus and my first trip to Africa, fulfilling my life long goal/dream. It will be good to connect with people before the trip. I see a few others booked on this trip have posted.

Hi to all on the 6th August trip. This will be a double lifelong dream to combine the gorillas and the Masai Mara. We ( Jo and Martyn ) have travelled a few times with Exodus to Namibia, Borneo and Egypt, and have always been impressed and had wonderful trips. I think we may be competing with 'the Oldies' though, who sneakily have not said how old!! To Tony - there have always been loads of solos on each trip and everyone has just mingled and had a great time, so I wouldn't worry. To Colleen - I bet it's not the last trip to Africa either- it gets under your skin...

Hi to Jo and Martyn,

thanks Jo for the reassurance I feel much happier now after reading yours and others comments. It already looks like I'm going to be in a good group. I cant wait

So the gang grows..we are now 8 known - Tony, Jo, Martyn, Colleen, Laura & Sean, Paul & Tina. Good job I paid attention to the maths teacher !! We are now getting serious... injections...great. As Tina & I are only 21 (we had very big paper rounds Jo & Martyn so do not be fooled by the wrinkles!!) this is our first trip of this nature (requiring sleeping bags... although Tina says I was familiar with them in a previous life but that's another story!!) do you pack your sleeping bags inside the back pack - I tried it and with those + boots + taller trees, I cannot get any other clothes in and 17 days in the same clothes may be drive the wildlife away. Anyone done this sort of trip before - advice much appreciated. Cheers.

Paul & Tina

Hello all travelling on the 6th.  David and I will be joining you and we are really looking forward to it.  I wish it was sooner, but I'm sure it will be worth the wait.  We have both been in Africa before but never had the chance to trek with gorillas.  A friend of mine travelled to Tanzania with Exodus and highly recommended them.  We're flying from Heathrow on the night of the 6th.

Paul and Tina, I did an overland trip previously and attached my sleeping bag to the outside of my backpack leaving plenty room for clothes, first aid kits, deet spray etc., although recycling the same clothes will become the norm.

Excellent Niamh & David - good looking bunch too. Many thanks for the advice re the sleeping bag too - just to confirm - your bag was attached to the back pack for the flights too? Another Exodus recommendation so looks like we are all on to a winner.

Hello to all! I like this idea of knowing who else is travelling before we go - on all of our previous trips we have played the game of trying to spot likely candidates at the airport!

To answer a couple of questions, whenever we travel we always travel in boots and put spare shoes (walking sandals) in the pack - they take up less space and we kick the boots off as soon as we are on the plane anyway. The sleeping bag will fit - my advice is don't take more than a 3-season one 'cos they can be really bulky, but take a thin silk liner to put inside it - you can also use this at other times if you are not sure about the cleanliness of places we stay. On previous African road-trips (Harare-Nairobi in 2001 and Cape Town-Vic Falls in 2004) we always had the chance to wash clothes en route...

Look forward to meeting you all...maybe a few teasers about each of you before we go?

Laura says leave enough room for loo roll, and take a small bottle of hand-sanitiser... And travel wash - Laura has reminded me we did a hand wash as we went, not using laundry services.

We're on the group flight from Heathrow on te 6th too...

I am learning quite a lot about this type of travel. I have always travelled very light, but am still learning more. I will be travelling from Canada solo and meeting up with everyone just as we start the trip. I was told that many are staying in a hotel on the 6th. I don't remember the name, but if anyone else is staying in a hotel the night before, let me know as it would be great to meet up and get introductions before we go.

We found in Namibia that we needed very few clothes as things dried so fast we could hand wash them regularly and tended to wear the same tried and tested things all the time. We aso wear boots on the plane and put in a pair of flip flops/sandals into hand luggage for changing into. I hope to pack my 3 seasons sleeping bag into my hand luggage, small rucksac for the flight out, leaving the rest of luggage space for clothes etc. If I read the trip notes right, once on the truck we can leave sleeping bags and boots out of our lockers.

Colleen

Hi all, I am getting very excited. It feels a little surreal, given the "years" I have been planning this. Coming from Canada I still have a long trip ahead of me but the end result will be worth it. Looking forward to meeting everyone at the meet/greet Aug 6 at the hotel. Colleen

Hi 6th August group

Hope you all had a fantastic holiday and the fire at Nairobi airport was not too much of a problem for you.

Our group (30th August) have just four days left, before we leave. Would love to hear any advice you feel would be useful to us.

Best wishes

Annie

Hi Annie - just seen your note so not sure if this will reach you in time.

Best advice we can give is to go with an open mind and enjoy the whole experience. Enjoy the scenery & people as well as all the animal & bird life you will see. Be prepared to 'muck in' at meal times and camp set up/break camp times. Lots of travelling and the long drop toilets are all part of the experience - do not let anything phase you. Take time to get to know your group. Appreciate how blessed we are as opposed to how the people you will see have to work for their living. Do this and you will have the most wonderful experience of your lives - as we did - no negatives - even the Nairobi fire. Would not have missed any of it.

Thank you Paul & Tina, sounds like good advice and I will not winge, even a little, about the long drop toilets.

Almost there with the packing. Thank you for taking the time to reply. Will look forward to reading your reviews if you get round to doing one.
