Hi,

Is anybody going on this trip in October? I'm booked to travel on my own and would be great to meet a few people before the big adventure!

Cheers, Nicola

Hi all,

I know you are out there at the moment I hope you are having a great time! Unfortunately due to personal circumstances I had to cancel my trip this year and replan for next year which was a bit rubbish - Hope you enjoy it! :)

Hiya folks,
I'm joining you on this trek. Actually I'm already there as I'm going to be spending the rest of the time until the trip starts teaching at a monastery in the valley. It's beautiful here!

A couple of tips that I've picked up so far:
ATMs: there are loads in Kathmandu, one in Lukla but only open limited hours and one in Namche. I can only get the "fast cash" option to work which is limited to 10,000 rupees at most banks (about US$100) although you could get more at Nabil Bank.
Showers: often cold even if advertised otherwise - bring wet wipes!
Electricity: is quite limited. Charge all your devices beforehand, bring spare camera batteries and I'd suggest a torch as there are lots of blackouts after dark

If anyone is interested in helping out with things for the school, we currently are teaching with no resources other than a white board and plain paper. My wish list for the school includes: white board markers and erasers, basic books (think age 3-8 eg first words, Dr Suess, reception and year 1 text books or worksheets), large plain sheets of paper for making posters and plain index cards for flash cards. Also plastic money and dice for practising basic maths skills.

If you are able to bring anything it would be wonderful. I may not meet you all until Namche - if so please leave any items at Ghat Guest house or at the cyber cafe in Phakding labelled "for monastery volunteer teachers - Rosi, Lisa, Jennie".

Thanks and look forward to meeting you all!
