CYCLING IN MONGOLIA

Tue, 02/01/2011 - 17:00

Hi !  I'm signed up with my friend Jean Mason to do the cycling trip in Mongolia in September.  Would be happy to "chat" and exchange ideas / experience with anyone else going.  I went on the cycle trip to Cuba last November, thoroughly enjoyed it !  Am just hoping Mongolia's not too touch for me ! Hi Nic, Rob and Steve

Nice to hear from you ... I am actually now in Croatia, cycling along the Dalmatian Coast with Exodus.   Steve ... I believe your a friend of Dick's ?  He's here with us and he's  a great cyclist .. I just hope my friend Jean and I will be able to keep up with you guys ...

As we both live in Geneva, we will be flying directly from Switzerland to UB via Moscow.  Will be in touch before then.

I look forward to meeting you all in September.

Hi Steve -

I've just got back home from Croatia, and thought I should explain my reference to Dick ... his family name is Heath, and I believe you have cycled together in the past.

Now that Croatia is behind me, I'm really looking forward to Mongolia.  Just hope it's not too tough !

Yes i met dick last year in vietnam and cambodia,i had a great time we arranged to go on a weekend together in april but dick fell ill at the last minute so he couldnt make it.I expect mongolia will be quite tough but it seems you do lots of cycling so you should be fine.

Hi Barbara Jean Steve Nick and Rob - i will be joining you all in Mongolia in September for my first cycling holiday. I have been wanting to visit Mongolia for a few years now. Just got my visa and starting to get really excited. Bit nervous though - you all sound like regulars on cycling hols. I've been doing my best to get fit this summer but have only been on trekking hols before. Watching the Tour de France makes me realise how fit some cyclists are!

I'm leaving the family behind and coming on my own for some 'me time!' Look forward to meeting you all.

Hi Steve

Yes I am travelling alone from Heathrow - only just realised what a horrendously long journey it is especially on way back with extra long stopover at Seoul! I'm sure it will be worth it. I think prepare for the worst with the weather and get a sub-zero sleeping bag - better to be too hot than too cold! Think average weather is about 20C in day - perfect for cycling! I looked at Ulan Batoor weather last week and it was 30C. If Nepal is anything to go by we will be very spoilt camping with dining tent, toilet tent etc - don't worry. Looking forward to meeting you

Hi BarbaraSteveNickRobandGill!

Looking forward to meeting you in UB! Barbara and I arrive at 6am on 3 Sept from Moscow, coming direct from Geneva. Gill, I am relieved you are not a serious cyclist either! I am a day tripper type cyclist - so also bit worried about how tough it will be... but I am SO looking forward to the whole experience!

 cheers, Jean

Hi Steve, I don't know if it's too late and you have already  bought a sleeping bag but I bought a North Face Blue Kazoo from Blacks on offer. It squashes down smallish to get it into your hold luggage. I also bought a Thermarest sleeping mat which you will need as well. Might see you at T4 if not in Mongolia.

All the best
