Anybody going on 1st Oct on the clasic Peru trip

Mon, 06/20/2011 - 13:52

Hi, I will be travelling alone on this trip, and this is going to be my first camping experience in high altitude.  Wonder if there are any other novices in camping and trekking in this group?   Francesca (London)

Hi Francesca, look forward to meeting you. We are oldies on this trip and haven't camped at altitude or even for a number of years. But the last 4 yrs we have done various treks in Nepa lso looking forward to this one and especially seeing Macchu Pichu and going into the Amazon area - should be an experience. Sandra (Derby)

we're going on the trip TPD departing on 1st October too to peru. so not your trip, but i can't find anybody rom our trip so thought i'd ask here what you think we'll be wearing for the inca trail? i can't find information on how cold or how hot it is likely to get in early october. have you any idea? don't want to pack too much, but keen to have the right clothing..

Hi Lyns what are you actually doing on your trip? I'm not sure what the TPD means. So are you camping on the inca trail like us? We haven't been to Peru before but have been in Nepal and done part of the everest trail for the past 2 yrs. I personally tend to walk in craghopper trousers which can be zipped off when it gets hot. I also have a breathable tee shirt plus fleece for early morning starts. When we have been at high altitude i have tended to sleep in thermals to keep warm (plus pj's if necessary). We also have down jackets for the cold evenings but I believe exodus recomend layers. I am not too sure about whast to wear in the jungle as we have never done this trip before. We have also taken a good cag and overtrousers - just in case, this year I am looking into buying a lighter weight cag as I personally don't want to carry too much as I am an oldie. We're looking forward to this apart from the camping bit but am prepared to put up with that to do the inca trail. We also bought the other year a travel towel from Mountain warehouse. Any other way I can help please feel free to ask. Sandra

Just had a quick look at your trip and it looks as though you are doing the Inca trail at the same time as us.

hi, yes our trip is on the inca trail at the same time as yours but we've actually opted for the 'moonstone trek' instead which is higher, quieter and more remote. i think i'm going to take a down jacket for evenings and lightweight waterproof for daytime rather than the heavy waterproof that i wear in winter in scotland. i will take baselayers and fleece but expect to be down to shortsleeves during the day. thanks.
