China Tipping Query

Can anyone help?

In the trip notes for the Imperial China Tour it states that tipping is customary in China, however most blogs/books I've recently read state that this isn't the case.

Did anyone on this tour donate the £30 towards a kitty on arrival as it suggests in the trip notes?

I understand that most countries I have visited before tend to tip guides, drivers, etc.

I'm in the process of working how much currency I need to take with me.

Thankyou

I have just returned from the August departure of this trip and at the beginning of the tour your leader will collect 300 Yuan (£30) from each group member for the tipping kitty. This goes towards the local guides and drivers that you have at each site. Tipping is at your discretion, however, due to the increase of tourism in China it has now become customary. Tipping is not expected at restaurants and bars so you will not need to factor this into any of your holiday budget. At the end of the holiday you may wish to tip your leader and we recommend a guide of around £1-2 a day. Again, this is entirely at your discretion.

I hope this has helped answer your question but if you need any further advise please do not hesitate to contact us.
