Carrying Own Pack - Everest Base Camp

Hi,

I'm contemplating carrying my own pack to Everest Base Camp in November. I was wondering if other people have done this and if they thought it was possible to do so or ifthey knew of others that have done it successfully without getting ill!

I have a good level of fitness but altitude strikes randomly! I took an 18kg pack 49km along Machu Picchu with a highest point of 4300m or so, being out of breath, but mainly because of the height of the steps we had to climb! Can anyone suggest if bravado has got the best of me or if this is a distinct possibility??

I've done both MP and EBC, the Inca Trail is not as demanding as Base camp. I don't think there is any reason why you could not carry your own pack, but why? The trek to EBC is a fantastic journey that demands a little bit of respect, I was happy with carrying a day sack and enjoying the experience and the sights, your paying alot of money for this experience so why make it into an ordeal or a fitness test. The trek is demanding enough in my opinion, so just go and enjoy!
